"So, youngster, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

Here's something that I haven't seen here before, so it should be a nice change of pace. What are some dream jobs that, at some point in your life, you thought would be really cool to have? The specific questions I have in mind are:

1) What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
2) What is your dream job now?
3) What is a job that you didn't necessarily want to have, but thought it would be interesting, amusing, easy, etc. to do?

Feel free to answer all, a couple, or one (or none, but there's no fun in that) of these questions. Or give any answer regarding dream jobs.

I'll start.
1) I don't remember if I ever explicitly thought it, but the first thing I ever wanted to be was probably an astronomer. I adore outer space, and I was seriously into it when I was a kid. Never would want to travel there, but I sure do love learning about it. I don't have the childlike enthusiasm I once did, and I have little time to devote to it now due to responsibilities and other hobbies, but space is still rad. Astronomy is uniquely interesting in a way that other subjects aren't, in my opinion, even though it isn't my favorite anymore and I don't invest in it that much.

2) My hopes after I am done with schooling is to be a political analyst. The science behind the politics is absolutely fascinating to me. My dream would be to have a radio show one day where I talk political science.

3) I never truly wanted to have this job, but I think it would be amusing and pretty comfortable living to be the random stats guy for sporting events. Seriously, I don't know how people find some of these obscure sporting stats. "The only player in NBA history to have 25 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals on a Thursday night after getting over the flu the week before and eating Wheaties for breakfast in the shot-clock era is Kobe Bryant." (Only a slight exaggeration.)

Speaking of basketball, Brian Scalabrine had it made when he played. He was an NBA player who recently retired, but when he played he literally came off the bench for a few minutes a night and popped a couple 3-points shots (which he was good at). All while making a decent chunk of change and winning a championship. Now that's the kind of job to have.

So what about you all?

When Khajiit was a kid, he wanted to be a paleontologist specializing in dinosaurs. This one loved dinosaurs! As Khajiit grew up though, his interest changed to a love for learning about ancient human cultures. This one supposes that if he had to pick a dream job now, and the pay was no object, then he would want to be an archaeologist and learn about ancient cultures from the very sites that they once inhabited. As for the last question, Khajiit has often thought that a career in banditry/piracy might be fun if something happened and rule of law broke down. Oh ho, this one would be a smooth criminal indeed! “Please, allow us to relieve you of the burden of your coin.”. Then Khajiit remembers that might involve killing (possibly even himself) and is not so sure about it.

I've had a computer/math bias as long as I can remember.

My father was basically an accountant, but got into programming when they got an early mainframe (4000 bytes of memory!) and I helped with his homework. That looked like a fun job, as the machine had to do what you told it to do, unlike people. That was why I liked mathematics, too. I could prove I was right, and didn't have to rely on a teacher's approval.

Now I've been a programmer for nearly 50 years, my dream job is retirement. I suspect that won't be as easy as it looks, either.

I had my dream job; getting paid for working at the cottage.

*sigh*

But other than that I did like my first job (furniture makings, kinda sorta...) before we lost all the good orders.

1. A Volcanologist. To this day, volcanoes still fascinate me, and I love watching and reading about them.
2. Access Control Specialist at Walt Disney World. The same thing I do now, but in a Magical place.
3. Worked the food cafe at Target for a year. It was indeed easy, and I got a kick out of people watching.

I love watching volcano videos, specially the lava flow. Something mesmerizing about lava.

1. I’ve always wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a kid. I grew up watching Jurassic Park and a Land Before Time. I was fascinated by them.

2. Now? Two jobs. One three friends and a relative worked them two years ago. It’s a court job and you’re responsible for cataloguing owners of lands and the minerals of that land dating back years to present day. It’s not a difficult job but it involves tons of reading and attention to detail. It paid $3900-$4000 biweekly and the only downside was the three hour drive to get there(except that they paid all gas expenses by the end of the day).

My second dream job which might just come true later this year or next year is being a sensor operator for the Air Force. Be a co-pilot to the pilots flying RPA’s(drones) in the Middle East. Sensor Operators work many tasks including surveillance, working the camera on the drone and the weapons and lasers as well(the Reaper and Predator drones cannot file unless we paint the target with the laser). I have to take the test and get a high enough score and just hope my recruiter tells me there’s a job opening.

3. Ever watch Magic Mike?

And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed.
I long for scenes where man hath never trod
A place where woman never smiled or wept
There to abide with my Creator, God,
And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept,
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie
The grass below—above the vaulted sky.”

1) My first job desire was to be a ballerina or a harp player. Harpist? Around 5th grade I wanted to be a teacher.

2) A math teacher. Right now, I work at a middle school and I'm basically a classroom assistant for students in reading support. I love it. I love these kids, they are absolutely hilarious and generally very cool and some are the sweetest. I'm majoring in math now and that's my goal is to teach it. I want to help make math less scary. Ideally, I'd teach high school, but now I think I'll be fine with middle schoolers.

3) For awhile, I imagined myself in some sort of vague office job. I did insurance for a few years. 0/10. Do not recommend.

1) What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
I've racked my ever-feebler brain over this one, with no sure results. The answer is likely that, even at an early age, my innermost self wanted to be a low-down good-for-nothing bum.

2) What is your dream job now?
To be a low-down good-for-nothing bum. Now in full retirement, I no longer need to mask my life's desire!

3) What is a job that you didn't necessarily want to have, but thought it would be interesting, amusing, easy, etc. to do?
During my military career, I for a time held the position of Director of (Squadron) Operations. It was one of the most important duties within our organization. Fraught with great peril to the holder if done poorly, and nowhere to hide in case of screw-up. I did not seek this duty. It was thrust on me when the fellow I replaced lost the trust of our Commanding Officer and Superintendent. To my surprise, I took to it like a duck to water. Oh, I had my weaknesses, but they amounted to surprisingly little. I held the position two years, relinquishing it when transferred to another duty station.
