Chorrol.com _ Oblivion Mods _ New Mounts

Posted by: Intestinal Chaos Jul 21 2005, 10:37 PM

Certainly this will happen as a mod for Oblivion without even being suggested. It be much more interesting riding something else other than a horse. I am holding out for a moose.

Posted by: Intestinal Chaos Jul 21 2005, 10:39 PM

Im getting a little ahead of myself with this post tongue.gif

Posted by: raistlin Sep 15 2005, 02:37 AM

Im hoping to be able to ride something like a griffon,or dragon.how cool would that be.but if the dragon died way up in the air you would be screwed unless you couls soft fall or fly.

Posted by: ShogunSniper Sep 15 2005, 03:27 AM

first time i saw a pack guar in MW i devoted my life to trying to find a way to ride one.

alas, i failed.

wonder if there will be guars in OB? (they were cute in an ugly sort of way)

i would like to ride a guar. viking.gif

Posted by: Intestinal Chaos Sep 15 2005, 04:00 PM

I'm sure that devoted MW players will place morrowind creatures in Cyrodiil with all sorts of mods.

Posted by: Drittz Spartan Sep 15 2005, 06:57 PM

When i played morrowind for the firs time i was hoping to ride dragons or a guar. but since there isnt any dragons in morrowind and u could not ride anything im hoping to ride something other than a horse, though.

Posted by: DoomedOne Sep 16 2005, 06:01 AM

Not without a mod you won't

Only 5 types of horses, too.

Posted by: RobRendell Sep 26 2005, 07:14 AM

What additional mount do I want? A summoned daedric horse-thing!

Then I can create my constant-effect "riding boots", and have my mount appear and disappear as required smile.gif

Posted by: raistlin Sep 27 2005, 02:54 AM

I choose a griffon.

Posted by: g0d_tH@t_fa!L3d Oct 8 2005, 03:14 AM

i choose chuck noris.

Posted by: Sabe Oct 10 2005, 06:01 AM

I'd seek revenge by choosing mounted CLIFFRACERS!!! laugh.gif

Posted by: g0d_tH@t_fa!L3d Oct 11 2005, 02:22 AM

i think that riding raptorlike creatures would be cool, be like in WoW.

Posted by: Chumbaniya Oct 22 2005, 03:19 PM

I'd love to see a bunch of mounts from WoW modded in. Anyone fancy riding a Kodo? tongue.gif

Posted by: The Wolf Oct 25 2005, 10:01 AM

Dragon would be great, but it would somewhat spoil lore.

Posted by: g0d_tH@t_fa!L3d Oct 29 2005, 10:30 PM

undead horses. for those of you who plan to be evil.

Posted by: Gomez' Oct 30 2005, 04:06 AM

Stuff like undead horses, Raptors, Dragons (!?!?!), Gryphon’s (!?!?!?!?!?!?)
Just seems too gimmicky and elaborate for me, It would ruin it for any self respecting lore reader. Or practical game player

When thinking up mods, you have to ask yourself. How could this practically fit in too said game? What stable master would sell a Zombified horse? And what kind of Zombified horse would let ANYTHING ride it? What’s to keep the horse from attacking you? What’s to keep the horse from eating the other horses inside the stable you keep it in when you’re in a town? There are too many flaws in these suggestions. Please analyze them more thoroughly.

I formally apologize God that failed but I had to say something kvleft.gif

The only probable mounts i can see so far are the Guar, Horse, and RobRendell's Deadric Horse-thing, and Dragon if done right wink.gif

Posted by: Brood Oct 30 2005, 04:47 AM

TC's such as mine have the ability to add new mounts, I agree that it is unlikely that other mounts would fit with Oblivion Lore. But remember, some people are just out to play for the fun of playing, riding a dragon, despite the lore conflict, would be really fun.

Not everyone knows all the lore and history behind Oblivion, it will matter less with TES4 than it did with TES3. As TES4 will attract more mainstream gamers.

you'd buy an undead horse from a necromancer, give him the gold and he would summon it for you. that make some sense. and why would he sell you a undead horse that isent loyal to you, it makes sense when you think about it mate.

also gryfons arent a bad idea, i think it would be awsome to ride one of them.

if i were smarter than i am now i would have said the same thing.

I understand people that play games just for the fun of it, but my argument is in the context of people who read the lore, and want to play a practical and functional mod that isn’t just a gimmick.

I say that thinking about the abundance of mods that incorporate some poorly elaborated play feature, with some mediocerly exciting aspect that either plays out poorly, or completely butchers lore for the sake of a cheap thrill. indifferent.gif

Im pleading for modders to be more complex, elaborate, less gimicky, analyze more, and acknowledge the lore once in a while.

Please kvleft.gif

But in the time spent expressing such a passionate rallying cry, could one not have taken the first tentative steps into modding and bring a vision of their own creation to life?

While I myself do try to keep to lore as close as possible, I am generally unaffected by those that stray outside of it. A poor implementation is nothing more than a doorway to hone what has been done and bring it into a new state of being. Aside this, a roleplaying world is ever-changing and constantly updating to associate new input data.

While I do agree a bit more effort should be put forth, I'll refine that by saying modders attempting something radically lore-breaking should at least attempt to be creative in how this new creature/race/weapon/etc. came into being. To place a griffon mount suddenly and inexplicably is a bit of a stretch.

But to take the same premise and make it less than readily available, perhaps throw it on the rumor mill amongst NPC's or find a tantalizing clue such as a misplaced tome as to abominable practices of a necromantic wizard or an enterprising alchemist attempting to blend together essences of various beings to create a new entity is still a stretch, but makes the whole thing a bit more plausible and by my book, acceptable.

i could write a story based on how undead steeds became avalable for purchase if you want me to.

Agreed, let the issue be put aside.

Although let it be known, I said what I said in the name of more condonable and probable modding. smile.gif

nix hounds

Posted by: Scrooluse Nov 2 2005, 04:29 AM

Now that is keen idea to me. I always thought it would be rather neat to have a tamed Nix hound mount. Either that or a Kagouti hitched with a special saddle.

Posted by: Gomez' Nov 2 2005, 05:04 AM

Among the other Tamriel creatures that could be probable mounts, I'd like to ride a Durzog around. I think horses are a little too large and "Heroic" for my benevolent tastes. I would like something sleeker than a horse, Fast enough, around the size of a guar, but not as ugly or dumb. That would be pretty nice

Posted by: BlackVenoM Nov 15 2005, 04:07 PM

a camel...or donkey...
or a tiger |||| BLAH... tiger rocks

Posted by: Hanz baby Jun 11 2006, 03:56 AM

give me one of those chiken things from final fantasy here chookchook!! hehe.gif

Posted by: HOLYBOB Jun 18 2006, 04:01 PM

Posted by: Tlo1048 Jun 24 2006, 09:01 PM

Hey chumbaninya
I would love to find out where the mod is to ride some Wow creatures
please reply

PS
for those who want a griffon I am working on onealso a
Lion mount
Winged lion mount
winged horse mount
Daedric demon-winged horse mount
wolf(larger)
Bear
Durzog from morrowind(so cool!!!)
chobico
tiger
dragon
nix hounds
tons of morrowind creatures
stuff like that smile.gif
I thin the mount selection is to scarce for some people and eventually people will get bored(I mean look at morrowinds modding community!!!!)

Posted by: Arukardo Jul 9 2006, 11:47 PM

Just to let you all know there is already a Dragon Mount mod
but there is a problem with it the cities in OB arent like the ones in
MW so when u fly over the cities its just like nothing but tall buildings
and pretty sure u can just land in the city u can fly everywhere but without
the Open City Mods its pretty ghetto
and another problem i forgot where i saw this mod kvright.gif sorry

i think chocobos would be a cool mount to have

Posted by: Tlo1048 Jul 13 2006, 02:45 PM

Holy Bob if you want to make or find mounts go to
www.OMP.com
or look in the Construction set wiki
It is pretty complicated but after a while you will get it smile.gif
Oh and i found a morrowind mod that adds sharks and fissh/dolphins and i am transfering the data into Oblivion to make a mountable shark for fast sea travel

Posted by: Ibis Jul 13 2006, 11:29 PM

A mountable shark - that'll be fun. Could you put up the link to that sea creatures mod? I'd like to install them in Morrowind. Is it hard to transfer models from Morrowind to Oblivion? I mean are the sizes the same and everything? Do you have to run them through Blender and then NifSkope? Sounds very interesting. Can't wait for your mod! ohmy.gif

Posted by: MaestroChieften Jul 17 2006, 08:37 AM

I believe that lore should be maintained for the player who wishes to maintain lore, while I think that people who wish to go wild with a mod that (theoretically) breaks lore is still okay. I mean, I think that the “lore breaking” mods can be considered “satire”, as they are not meant to be apart of established lore. People who don’t like the lore breaking mods can safely ignore them; people don’t have to download such mods. You can go into a store and select your favorite brand of chocolate milk, while you ignore the others that don’t satisfy your palate. Same logic concerning mods.

I merely think that people who wish to maintain lore should'nt ostricize those who aren't as concerned with it. Still, I think that some mods can benefit from proper explanations to make sense (if the modder is concerned with lore). The idea of necrotic horses is sound; but the idea they are purchasable from a horse dealer like any other horse type is illogical.

With that said, I would like to suggest that someone creates a wider variety of horses, create larger wolves (for Orcs) and, for the Wood Elves (with their affinity to nature) deer that they can ride.

PS. (the thread that I started hasn't gotten any replies in a while, so I need get it a little more exposure)

What’s your favorite Predator armor? Can Predators be logically blended into Elder Scrolls lore? What abilities would you like to see the Predator have? Who’d win in a fight, an Alien or a Predator? Got any tips on how to model a Predator face in the Construction Set? Why is that annoying thing that sits next to Jabba the Hutt so annoying? Discuss all this on my thread:

Posted by: MaestroChieften Jul 17 2006, 09:50 AM

I'm sorry if I was beating a dead horse on my other post with my point of view, so what I think on the subject of what mods break lore can be safely ignored. I do hope though that someone considers my horse/wolf/deer suggestion though.

I am a bit eager to hear feedback on the Predator subject. Remember, my thread is:

no. no no no. the elder scrolls was built as a game that broke the fantasy mold of dragons, gryphons, and riding demons. horses fit the story better, simple as that. in elsewyr they ride tigers but thats about it. also in akavir there used to be dragons cyrodiil and the rest of tamriel is designed to be a more civil place. also raise your hand if you dont like the fact that they included goblins in oblivion.

also, be realistic. would the legion allow people riding dragons and demon horses and mammoths along the roads of cyrodiil??

*Kiln raises hand*
I didn't like that they used the goblins, they are way overused in fantasy games as it is.

Also, I agree with what he said about realism. Dragons, those birds from final fantasy, and other huge or previously used stuff wouldn't be good mounts.

I don't like that the Imps fly either. In Cheydinhal Petshop mod you can get an Imp as a pet option .. but he is so laggy with all the constant flapping that he winds up slowing you down alot. Shame cause it'd be cool to have a caster as a pet. indifferent.gif

Posted by: DungeonHunter Aug 17 2006, 05:30 AM

laggy with flapping? never happens to me

A bear, you say? I can imagine it now...

IPB Image

As far as dragons go, it'll only be worthwhile if you can ride into the Shivering Isles on a huge, winged reptilian beast with awesome flame breath that can be used for ultimate destruction. If that gets coded in, I'd spend three in-game months just to raise myself a young dragon to adulthood.

There is probably nothing that would please the Mad God more than to see such a thing.

Posted by: Illydoor Mar 10 2009, 07:51 PM

A dragon would be awesome for uber pwning them Imperial Legion guys strutting about on their Legion Horses.

"You've violated the law!"

"Yeah? say hello to Smokey my dragon, b*tch..."
