Both my dogs are purebred "Louisiana Catahoula Leopard" - they are technically a cur, but are a registered breed. They are not agressive dogs, but are VERY assertive, the owner better be the Alpha in the house.

They are for hunting:

Better scenting than a bloodhound
Webbed feet for swimming
Can and will climb trees to go after prey

(I have a snapshot of one of Dixie's relatives 15 foot up in a tree at the field trials)

They are also for herding:

They are known for herding wild boar, but are just as happy with cattle, horses, sheep, people, etc.

When you buy one they tell you it must be exercised HARD daily or it will eat your house - TRUE! Both my dogs get plenty of exercise, and yet my older dog has literally eaten a lawnmower and the sub floor of my house. Dixie has been eating a pine tree with her baby teeth.

The cats are a feral colony we have been feeding and tending since the year 2000. We trap/spay/neutered them and then released them back into their territory. Without all the kittens the colony has dwindled down to just what you see in the pics (thank goodness!) - the one inside was a kitten from the matriarch's second litter.

Momma is the most feral of all the remaining colony

Smokey - she prefers living with the dogs

Beautiful, mALX. Definitely looks like he's getting enough to eat. tongue.gif

Believe it or not, he doesn't eat as much as little Ginger, lol. Thank you so much, Acadian!

They have both been a bit depressed since winter started here because it kept having flooding rains followed by freezing cold = deep mud, standing water, and then ice. But when this blizzard came it hardened the mud and put almost two feet of snow on top of it, and the horses LOVED it! They even rolled in it! It was so much fun to watch them enjoying it! Thank you, SubRosa!

Thank you so much Khajiit and Macole!

Here is our latest addition bought last night: Harley is a Tennessee Walker mare who is currently in foal to a beautiful Palomino Tennessee Walker stud. She is beautifully gaited and very flashy when she isn't rolling in the mud, lol.

Here's Rosie, the newest member of the Grits family. She is four months old. Her favorite things are meeting people, eating sticks, big naps, my socks, and cheese. She tolerates car rides. Some day she hopes to catch and eat a bird. (Yikes.) In the meantime she is catching and eating as many pine cones as she can.

Rosie is a standard poodle. She has attempted to trick me in the following ways:

Stealth chewing her bed with a toy draped over her nose to hide it, all the while making guilty eye contact with me.

Smuggling a sweet gum ball into the house in her cheek to eat later which she had to drop in order to accept her post-walk treat, wide eyes at me as if she didn't look at it then I wouldn't see it sitting there.

Hiding my sock under her blanket, again presumably for later consumption. I was putting it on when she stole it.

Mr. Grits reports that she has figured out that she can reach the countertops. She's just waiting for something good enough up there to do it.

Rosie is adorable. Get her a black bed to lay on, so she can camouflage herself against it.
