We in the building thread have decided that for some hidden elements of the library, the password will be in the form of a riddle. Now I thought this would be a good way to get new riddles and have some fun too. biggrin.gif My first five; see if you can figure them out and tell me if they are too easy.

Blade without pommel, hilt, or edge.
Warriors trample,
Alchemists prize.
Enormous in number, not size.

Has legs but does not walk,
has a back without a spine.
sometimes wood, sometimes stone,
often arranged in a line.

It burns without fire,
lights without heat.
Ever rising, ever lowering,
the perfect lamp ever designed.

Weapons like daggers,
armor like mail.
Your death is its breath,
but on a beach it will die.

lowers mountains, widens streams, destroys towns.
no wall can stop it, no man can dodge it.
It waits on no one, but slows for those expectant.

I've worked out number four. But I must say, last time that it was presented to a group of people, no-one managed to work out what it was, so it must be hard.

I have a contribution:

From the beginning of eternity,
To the end of time and space,
To the beginning of every end,
And the end of every place...

I think it may be a little too easy though.

Ok, I guess I'll add the ones I was working on a few days ago. By the way, I made these, so don't think you'll get the answers so soon.

His beauty shines bright,
and then it darkens.
A line divides him,
but shows history.

Smart you must be,
to kill with me.
Thoughtful you must be,
to wield my power.

The tiles of the floor make a picture of a bear.
An Imperial hidden among letters and words. Follow closely.
First the fourth and fifth, then the thirty-fourth, then the thirty-fifth, followed by the thirty-seventh.

Inside of us it lives.
A wepon, even a sealent for the re-living.
It can help or hurt your beautiful life.
The masters can find infanite life.

Dancing over the melting base,
I hurt those who would dare dance with me.

You lose, I gain.
You drop, I bring you up.
You die, you live.
I am the cause of these and more,
What am I?

I hope I don't sound stupid but I can't figure any of those out, but I just thought of one if one of you wanted it,

We work all day, with nothing to say,
We never do trouble or our work will double,
With beastly powers we work for hours,
Mining, Farming, Attending,
We are the silent servers of the world,
But we are paid by none but our own hopes and dreams,
Who are we?

Maybe a beginning of an easy riddle, you guys could mess with it, I'm going to see if I can figure some of yours out....

1. Magical Scrolls or Staves..

2. Chairs

3. This one is hard, I would guess hope...

4. Dreugh , but you should change it to "but on a beach brings it's death" as it would rhyme and sound better, or at least have it end with death

5. Rain

3. It's the sun but that does heat and burn, so I would say fireflys too... so confused...

yes it is the sun. ALthough I might just reword the third line to make it fireflies, I like that answer better.

Well the confusing part is the sun DOES burn so everyone would rule fire and the sun out, or at least that's my view...

My Contribution:

Green-eye had a problem, he had two irregular shaped containers, one would fill five gallons, and the other three. The problem was, he needed four gallons. Because the two containers are irregular, he cannot simply pour out any particular measurement, so how will Green-Eye get 4 gallons?

The answer: Pour three gallons into the three gallon container, then pour that three into the five gallon container so that it has three gallons. Refill the Three gallon container and pour it into the five gallon container until it's full, this will give you one gallon in the three gallon container. Pout the five gallon container out, then pour in the one gallon from the three gallon container, refill it and pour in the remaining three gallons so that you have four gallons.

while the sun does make heat, I was thinking sunburn, a burn without fire, and the sunlight, which does not produce heat like other forms of illumination. Just my thoughts when I was making the riddle.

Why did you give us the answer? It doesn't matter anyway, as those are very easy unless your skilled and make it tricky

1. Imperial (troops)?
2. A stool?
3. The Sun?
4. A fish
5. Time

I got the last two because they sound oddily familier... Do I sense a hint of Tolkien? Of course, I could be completely wrong... And it could be written by a different author. biggrin.gif
