So here I thought we could talk about what we like best about the season weīre currently in, as the headline so deviously revealed...
As I write this itīs summer so thatīs what weīll be talking about now
I really like just being at the cottage in the summer. I like riding the mower as itīs a job that doesnīt wear me out and now I also like sitting in the excavator though I donīt really associate it with summer the same way. I like all the green and the sunny mornings and I have no trouble getting up very early just because thereīs beautiful light outside. I like going for a swim at the beach but it has to be warm in the water and yes, I do like the girls there...
So what do you like best about the current season?
no school
Season 2 of Vikings? I think the best thing is we see more of Lagertha. More importantly, she isn't relegated to the 'housewife' role she had in Season 2. Now she is a Jarl (or at least becomes one), and a real player in events.
Oh wait, you mean the time of year season? I think the best thing about summer is the longer days. The sun comes up sooner, so I get an hour to an hour and a half to sleep in the light before getting up for work. When I was 18 I worked a job on the midnight shift, and ever since then I have always slept better in the daylight than at night.
Also I can keep the windows open. I know some people keep their AC on all summer, and their heat on all winter. But I hate how stuffy the air gets with everything all closed up. Give me fresh air blowing through the house.
Seasonal beer. That counts for every season though.
I like being able to get outside to exercise during the summer. That counts for a lot of fall too, but winter and most of spring is just too unpleasant around here to go out.
I love the early days. I get up at 0400, and to be able to get out and go for a run around civil twilight and be back before the sun gets high is magical. And in my piece of the high desert mountains, there are no flying biting bugs in the summer (or any other time of year). Oh, and I love what our low humidity does to the heat index: 'Temp is 95; feels like 88'.
Curious to see "civil twilight" being mentioned as if we'd actually wonder if you meant nautical or astronomical twilight, and needed that kind of precision.
In Anchorage at this time of year, civil twilight lasts all night. I doubt that's the case where you are. In London, it's astronomical twilight all night.
Lol, I pay attention to it because I go out to run for an hour. Civil twilight here is about 30 minutes before sunrise. Then, because of a taller mountain range to my east, I don't actually see the sun until about 30 minutes after sunrise. Hence, starting at civil twilight, I get one magical hour of adequate light but no actual sunshine - perfect for summer running. As I get back home, the sun is just saying hello.
Oh, you are just saving your manhood by making sure no one thinks you are a Twilight fan.
Nah.
On alternate days, I walk over to the gym (about a mile), lift weights, shower and walk home. During the warm half of the year the sun has usually crested the range to my east. Often I get to see it do so. If there are any hints of clouds around, it often creates a magnificent prism effect. Every time I see it I say to myself, "Looks almost as good as the godrays mod."
Another nice thing about mornings in the desert is that you can see about 100 miles - okay, I'm exaggerating, but the clear visibility is wonderful. Later in the day, the heat will begin to blur things and make the distant air look kind of wavy - the stuff desert mirages are made of.
Summer is usually very hot in Slovenia, so it's not my favorite season because I don't tolerate heat very well. Still, what I like the most is that sea is warm enough to swim in and that I don't need to wear many clothes. Another good thing is that during summer we meet with friends more often than usual because most of us have holidays and we have more time to socialize. Oh and another good thing is that when my GF goes shopping, I can wait for her in a nearby bar outdoors, drinking coffee and enjoying the sun - I dislike shopping. Well, I can do that in spring too but it's better in summer.
What do I love about summer here in the Midwest?
Lightning bugs.
The late evenings and the long twilights.
The smell of freshly mown grass. More enjoyable now that I'm not the one mowing it . . .
Thunderstorms.
We used to have it like that at the cottage but thanks to better powerlines the light doesnīt even flicker now
The local farmers market is open on Saturdays, farm stand every day down the street, and tomatoes and herbs growing in my garden. Summer is a great time for eating.
"Conan! What is best about the current season?"
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and then go get fresh churned ice cream made from organic milk farmed locally using sustainable methods.
-Conan the Hipster
I also like the storms- as long as I am not out in them....
The greening of everything reminds me of my childhood spent among (and up in) the trees. Lots of barefoot summers...
And then, there was the time on the lakes and rivers....
Now- in my older age, the flowers give me great joy.
This will be easy. Summer is my favorite season because....
When I get up at 5:30, it's already warm and I can wash my hair and not freeze.
Speaking of my hair, my curls are beautiful in summer because I can put my product in and leave it to dry by itself.
Tank tops.
I tan quickly and easily
Barbeques!
Perfectly ripe avocados are so much easier to find!
Peaches. Watermelon. Shakes from Sonic ♥
I can leave the door open at the office and not freeze.
We rarely get summer storms but I do love when they happen.
Not too hot...Nice breezes...The sunshine is not oppressively glaring...
I do loves me some late summer/early autumn...
Pumpkins! I cant say the air is crisp here yet, but its a little less soggy. Pumpkins and fall flowers everywhere.
* Edit, no longer needed.
@mALX
I feel that what you said had to do with dying flowers lol
I like autumn because it's cool, but it's still sorta warm out and the trees are real nice looking during this season. At least until they all die lol
Fine. They go bald lol
FOOTBALL SEASON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mowed the lawn at the cottage for the last time this year. I always get a nice feeling when I mow the lawn wearing a warm jacket while feeling cool air against my face..
Today it was 31 degrees (celsius), in SPRING. Early spring too.
It meant I could go swimming though, which was nice.
Vital, I'm envious! It's warm here now too, but heading for cooler weather whereas you're heading for warmer temps. If I had unlimited resources, I'd summer here in the American southwest, then, before Christmas, go summer with our kids and grandies who live down under in Perth! Did I mention I don't like cold weather?
But what's best about the current season? Well, I do like being able to open the house up for fresh air this time of year with the cool nights and mornings.
Best about this season: Cold! Ice! Snow!
Burst pipes! Power cuts! Digging the car out of snowdrifts!
It's the masochists' favourite season.
I'm with ghastley on this...
But I'm going to put Christmas on the list. Because food. Specifically lechon. Mmm.... Our family doesn't cook a whole pig, but we get a piece with some skin and cook it so it's crispy and just melts in your mouth. One bite automatically puts you on Santa's naughty list. That's how good it is.
Also my cat usually sleeps in the bed with me during winter, but this year she wants under the covers and somehow she manages to get her body under my pillow. She's been very cuddly this winter so that's nice.
Rain. California needs it bad so that's always nice.
I like your contribution, Jacki..
Wow! So yeah, spring!
Weīve been having some beau-ti-ful mornings here lately! Clear skies, sun, no wind and quite cold, especially today, so all in all perfect spring mornings!
Wooo Spring! One of my top four favourite seasons.
It's been quite warm over here. As in "I don't have to wear a big winter coat anymore and can get away with a light jacket."
Apparently back home, up North, it's pretty snowy though. Y'know, closed roads and all that other fun stuff.
British Weather is weird.
Right now, that would be spring break! Not that I'm going anywhere or anything. It just gives me a chance to rearrange my thoughts and strategize how to organize the rest of the semester. It's also giving me some quality time with Melaina I'm gone for 11 hours twice a week and then 5 hours two more days out of the week so I don't get as much time with her as I like. She must feel the same because she hasn't left my side all day!
Visually, I like the flowers and leaves coming back. Unfortunately, my siblings and I are highly allergic (my sister's eyes will swell shut!) so we suffer or but several bottles of Allegra to cope.
Also, spring is one season before summer so....
Of course, as a cyclist, I divide the year into four seasons: Too Cold, Too Wet, Too Hot, and Too Windy. I ride on the odd days that fail to conform.
Well, things are blooming here in the high desert, and I've needed neither heat nor air conditioning for many weeks now. Springs here are breezy though.
Nothing really blooming here, itīs been a tad too cold. But I reckon itīll be in full bloom in a month. Maybe
Though winter hasn't officially started yet, the best thing right now besides this drink I just tried called champurrado, is winter break. So I can have time to read and write for fun again.
Good on you for trying Champurrado, although it's not a drink for us Filipinos; it's actually a porridge that we eat alongside dried fish. Yep, our taste is weird that way. Still though, I like Champy myself, I eat/drink it with condensed milk.
Chocolatey and everything with the fish? That actually sounds kinda good right now if the fish is a bit salty.
Yesser it is salty like a rejected person'a tears on a Valentine. Mmmmhmmmmmmm. You done and made me crave for some now, actually.
Officially winter does not start until Mid-Winters Day. Which never quite made sense to me...
Technically it starts on the 21st but yeah we're getting the frosty windows and misery.
In parts of my country weīve had snow since October
Best about the current season?
Sunshine, wind, stillness, overcast, snow and hail. All on the same friggin day
Lots of folk love Spring for its mild temperatures and blossoming plant life. I like that too, but overall don't care much for the season since it also tends to pose the greatest storm / tornado threat. I always breathe a sigh of relief when summer rolls around, since the threat of severe storms and tornadoes diminishes. Of course the ungodly hot temperatures we've had to endure the past couple of summers ain't all that great either. Heck, mowing the lawn today in the high seventies took a LOT out of me. I don't even want to think what it'll be like mowing when it's a good twenty-plus degrees hotter, no shade in sight. My old ticker don't take to mowing in a oven as well as it once did.
Moderate warmth, blossoming trees and shrubs, dry soil (instead of mud everywhere) and living in the cottage is what I like best about the current season
Summer...
...
When it's finished...
I will be facing two winters this year. It's currently winter here in Brazil. When I return home this year I'll be facing yet another cold season....
Tank tops. My skin looks so much nicer. Not just because I get darker, but I feel like I glow! Also my hair will dry without the need for a diffuser and the curls form up so much bigger and nicer.
More fruit is in season, ice cold horchata, banana "ice cream", regular ice cream, 4th of July, which gives me hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.
A break from school, which gives me time to try and practice some calculus before my class in the fall.
Best thing about the season?
The beach and the bikini-clad dwellers therein.
