It’s a little prettier, sounds a bit better. I found that I control it better than when I last played the original version. Of course, it still forces you to win a campaign as one of the Roman factions before unlocking the other cultures/nations but I still had a lot of fun as the Julii and we are currently swimming in money. Just building up my forces before taking the fight to the Gauls in earnest.

Well looks like Egypt is going to win this campaign. They have destroyed Seleucia while I’ve been piddling around building my forces and infrastructure. I’ve only taken 3 cities since the start of the campaign. Carthage is spreading like wildfire in Hispania, and the Greeks are fighting hard against the Brutii. The northern barbarians seem to be content with fighting each other, and I’m actually allied with Briton and Dacia. Germania is moving hard against Dacia so I’m probably going to give it a round or two then roll a huge army up there and slap the Germans around a bit. That’s *if* Egypt doesn’t end the game. I can’t remember what happens if a faction meets the objective before you do.

I have never had an AI faction meet its victory conditions. I my Defensive Scythia AAR (which comes up if you Google it!), the Brutii only had to take Rome to win, but they never did.

In a campaign I did a long time ago with the Mundus Magnus map I was playing Macedon, and Germania almost did. They only had to destroy Gaul, and they and Spain were both doing it. So I directly intervened to stop them. I gave Gaul some of my provinces, and gave them money. I also sent an army by ship to Spain, and destroyed all their cities. I sacked them, destroyed all the buildings, then abandoned them and moved to the next. That way I did not get bogged down with the time-consuming work of keeping public order in each. I just gutted their heartland instead. In the end I sent an army into Gaul to fight against both the Germans and the Spanish to keep the Gauls in the game. It worked, and I hit my own victory conditions before anyone else.

Hmmm I might have to try something like this...

Egypt is often vulnerable to loading up an army onto a fleet and sailing down to Alexandria. Disembark and attack the city, then run down the Nile and take the other two cities there. It guts their economy, and takes away their Wonder (which if I recall gives you a public order bonus in all your cities). I found sending two stacks ideal. One being a full army to fight with, with 2 Onagers to switch in during a siege battle, or leave out and replace with cavalry during a field battle. Then a second stack of 20 Peasants. You take the city with your army, then immediately send in the Peasants to garrison it. That frees up your army to take the field again and keep fighting.

Holding those Nile cities can be tough, because their growth is so astronomical. So always Exterminate them when you take them. If you still can't hold them, just do what I did in Spain. Take the city, Exterminate, destroy all the buildings, and abandon it and move on. Sometimes they go Rebel afterward. Sometimes they go back to their original owner. A really weird thing is that either way, they end up spawning an entire stack of Peasants with 2 gold chevrons of experience in the city after they flip ownership.

This also gives you a ton of money fast.

I thought about doing just that. Looks like they are just sitting around right now though so I think I’ll leave them be. I am 2 cities away from eliminating the Gauls, and obtaining the 15 provinces I need for the victory conditions. Yeah, I’ve been busy for the past few hours, lol

Omergerd, I was almost there! Forgot I had to hunt down all of the armies too. Had taken all of their cities but got too hasty and one revolted and was switched back to Gaul. Also the Britons attacked with a large force and I could see that things were spiraling out of control, so I reloaded an earlier save game. I was in such a rush to be done with it I made lots of mistakes. We are already in better shape than last time.

Welp, the Gauls are no more and I’ve got the 15 provinces I needed for the short victory. The other factions are now unlocked so now I get to decide which people to play as next! Hispania is now an option, but I’ve been itching to play the Britons again.

Hail Britannia!

That’s probably what I’ll end up doing. I’m thinking about trying something different and sailing down to North Africa to get some of those lands early. Just to see what happens.

I never stopped with the short victory but taking the Britons to Africa sounds like a challenge. Take away the empire's bread basket and watch it starve.

I’m guessing the chariots will be a big help down there.

You got me enthused to start my Bean Sidhe campaign from Amazon Total War again. The army I diverted from North Africa landed in southern Spain, and I have taken 2 cities there already. My army stationed to defend the Iberian/Gallic border got mauled after a huge fight with the Iberians at the end of my initial run. Worse, the city of Tolosa, which they are based out of, has the plague. So they cannot go back in to retrain. I have had to send them to other cities all across Gaul to retrain them. Thankfully they mauled the Iberians just as badly. In fact, it looks like they all but broke their back in the Iberian peninsula. It looks like they have only one sizeable force in their capital of Numantia.

Out east, I am gaining ground in the Balkans. I have a small army about to take the old Dacian capital from the Valkyrja Amazons in the Carpathians. That will leave the Indy Celts nearby with one city, completely encircled by my own empire. They are my allies, for now. But I think I will attack them first and just finish them off.

Farther north I am reorienting from a defensive strategy and going on the offensive across the Vistula against the Valkyrja there as well.

In Greece I have one big army that just took Rhodes. I peeled off a small force from them to go take Crete. That will be the all there is left of Greece not under my control. I also have one big army in Bylazora. A small Amazonian force has been lurking right next to the city. We are technically at peace. But there is no reason for them to be there. Another larger Amazonian force just crossed the Thracian border headed for Pella. So I will be at war with them in moments. Looking east, my spies reveal that Amazonia rules all of Anatolia, and the western coast of the Black Sea.

Finally, I am working on creating one more full stack army in Rome, which has a Pantheon of the Morrigan. I am not sure what I will do with them. It all depends on what is happening by the time I am done creating them.
