OK, let's do this.


First off, we need to plan where are we going. Hey Jack, wanna go for another try for the Roots? This time without a crazy spy thinking he's a warrior? Or an assassin and his wife? *shrugs*

TBH, I prefer this. Second time's a charm, yes? There were so many potential in being in Morrowind and Black Marsh, and we didn't even got a chance to properly set up shop. If we choose this, we go there with the same way, boats and all. This time, however, we properly land someplace other than Seyda Neen. Perhaps Ebonheart? Either way, once we get out of the ship, we get to hear some crier about how the local lord is hiring mercenaries for an 'assault' on a nearby.....

Just pick a province before I talk your ears out tongue.gif



And since I get a feeling that "making things up as we go" would likely result in the horrid death of this RP, NPCs that has some sway in the story is very much needed. These NPCs I would list in the following list: only if we meet/heard about them in their respective province. I control these NPCs, of course.


I'm going to introduce some plot-moving NPCs with, hopefully, humanized personalities. I would update this list in a seperate thread when we progress with the plot or set foot in each respective province so you guys can get a 'feel' of each NPC's ambition and goals. First off:




CYRODIILS


Emperor Martin Septim

The illegitimate heir now turned Emperor, Martin Septim rules the Fourth Era as a broken man. He still has his wits and sanity, but in those blue eyes one could see the turmoil that plagues him. The province of the Imperial race is safe under his fair, yet firm, guidance and the Legion reinforces the peace. As the Fourth Era now dawned on Tamriel, the weakened Empire has lost its leash on each province and chaos now reigns. Mysterious artifacts also appeared in seperate locations and Martin has some strange interest in them, hiring mercenaries and sending Blades to recover each one. While the reason is unclear, some say it would be vital in restoring peace.


The Champion of Cyrodiil ( the preset character just to make it easier and not confusing )

The lone wanderer who repelled Oblivion single-handedly. His name and background is unknown, but his deeds marked him as one of the powerful Heroes who rose before him, like the Incarnate. Currently, he resides in the Royal Palace, guarding the Emperor despite his friend's wishes for him to venture out and collect the Gems.



Severus Horatius Caesus

Succeeding Adamus Philida as the overall commander of the whole Legions and a military advisor to the Emperor, Severus is regarded as a brutish man with the mind of a genius. Under his command, the borders of Cyrodiil is kept safe. While the Emperor is sending out mercenaries and adventurers to collect these hogwash 'Gems', the Primo Legatus is waiting for the opportune moment to mobilize the Legions and pacify the independent provinces with brute force. And he is running out of patience.


Councilman Noriquel

With the demeanor of a shifty rat and the personality of a zeta male of the pack, this Bosmeri is reputed as one of the greediest and disloyal in the whole of the Elder Council. Many times has the other Councilmen petitioned for Noriquel's retirement, but it has always been rebuked. Simply because Noriquel is one of the best in the games of politics. Ruthless and efficient, he could get the job done. He has many pawns under his thumb and all of them are arguably spies, too. Nothing can get in and without of the Royal Palace with Noriquel not knowing of it. Emperor Martin dislikes him and the Champion is outright suspicious of him, but they keep him simply because of his political savvyness. Lately, however, the Bosmeri councilman acts with strange eccentricity and keeps mumbling to himself during Council sessions.

A great plan is in work, he says. A great plan is in work.





Praetorian Lania Horatius Caesius

Women serving in the Legion is a strange sight. Women having the ranks even senior officers can only dream of having is viewed upon with disgust and secret awe. Lania, daughter of the Primo Legatus, is the head of the Praetorian Guard: an organization bent on defending the Royal Palace and the Emperor himself, in conjunction with the Blades. Founded by Martin to reinforce his security from assassins, the Praetorians maintains the safety with borderline-fanatiscism. And this job suits Lania well. She was not the one who seeks out battle, unlike his father, but would rather have battle seek her out. And this job, it attracts assassins like a moth to a fly. But with the erratic behavior of Councilman Noriquel and the restless demeanor of her father, the tension inside the palace is unbelievably thick. No one knows who is loyal to whom, and enemies hide in the guise of friends. It is times like these that Lania loves her job.


(When the RP starts, I would edit this post and this "Character List" would be moved up so new comers would get an idea of the RP. Hope it makes sense, which it probably wouldn't)

The problem I think with the old rp was mostly a lack of planning and too much storming off followed by blind catching-up. I also thought a certain character behaved a bit odd considering his/her background, but that's an irrelevant detail.

Anyhow, I don't have any real preference regarding the first province we go for. Morrowind might be as good a warmup as any. That said, I don't know if we should go to Ebonheart. Assuming that the Argonian/Dunmer conflict is at least somewhat based on a race for the roots, and considering that the Argonians seem to be losing. (Not that I see the Dunmer armies live long when they reach the real swamp)
I propose we start on the mainland instead, closer to the front lines. How about Mournhold? It's big and the capital, which makes it a good place to have a good number of spies and informants.

And how do we want to start? With our arrival at whatever starting site we pick, or first have everyone post a scene where they're hired and get their orders?

I'm okay with going to Morrowind first, or anywhere else for that matter. Would make sense that we first meet in Mournhold(if we go to Morrowind) as that's closer to the border and a great place for gossip. If anything is going on with the ruling factions of the land, that's the place you'll find out the fastest.

As for how to begin, I wouldn't mind writing up how the hiring happens. Could be a good way to introduce the characters. I'm fine either way though.

Mournhold, huh? Gotta be the third that says that it makes sense. With the residing God dead thanks to the Nevvy, I suppose the Temple took over and made the City their headquarters. Which, y'know as Jack said, ripe with spies and all that stuff.

The Beginning with the RP should be on being hired. That said, I don't think that the Five of us would be ... convincing. Sure, the smaller the faster we can travel, but how about a dozen? Irrelevent mercs that would be ignored later on (or not, if you have plans for them).

Hmmm... I'm ready. Want me to make the Playground or we wait for the others' opinion (Ahrenil and Grif)?

I'm happy with starting in Morrowind, however if we're starting off there are we already hired? Who's hiring us? Where are we being hired? Were we told to go to Morrowind? It just seems a bit unlikely for a group of 5 mercs to be hanging around Mournhould when theres already so many oppurtunities outside the city, are we all on a break or something?

As far as other characters go I had another in mind that i'll add, to flesh out the party a bit more and add some survivablity, a medic. The only thing I have to say about starting in Mournhould is isn't the temple notoriously distrustful of outsiders? Having a large group of heavily armored mercenaries from various not particularily friendly provinces seems like a bad idea.

I might be able to create another character, if I don't have time to write two later I'll just have that person die in that case. I was thinking a bit of a mage focusing on destruction and/or conjuration, with the right clothing such a person could be very inconspicuous as well since he/she won't carry a weapon.

As for the beginning, if we start with how we are being hired we could just do it so that we are contacted by a blade, an imperial guard or a courier and whoever it is brings a closed missive with the orders in case we agree to do the job(which we obviously will), then we skip forward to when everyone have gotten to Mournhold and meet there. If you are in Cyrodiil you could of course be called to the palace, and then get hired but that would show that the emperor is taking an interest in the character and would probably cause the temple to be suspicious of him/her. Yeah, I think it's very likely the different powers of Tamriel are spying on each other. I would anyway.

As for it being suspicious with a large group of mercenaries from different provinces, I don't think that we'll be the only mercenaries around and as such, though we'll probably be monitored, I don't think we'll be that closely monitored. After all, when the soldiers are busy on the front lines mercenaries will probably be hired to take care of things that the soldiers would do otherwise. My opinion, take it for what it is.

I agree that being hired individually is probably best. Our Blades members for example will go through regular Blade-channels for the thing, whatever that might be. (coded Letter with orders and a few forms for requisitioning supplies/transport?)

As for a second character, I've got no ideas yet.

Well, I've finished with Taedril Uvaren.

Luckily, I've given myself a good bit of freedom on where to start off, so I think I'll just be heading for the borders of Valenwood when I'm stopped by a Legion patrol, and told to be heading for the Imperial city palace.

Hmm. A medic, huh? Well, you beat me to it, Ahrenil. Go right ahead. As for who's hiring us, its the Emperor. The old RP 'Shards of Broken Emperors' should be your geyser of information. Beware however, noobish content is abound in there! Lol.

Saqin's plan makes the most sense. To me, atleast.

Morrowind... interesting. Perhaps, Valero could have been captured by Dunmer near the border. Then the group could chance across him in Morrowind on trial for associating with necromancers.

Morrowind is okay, and it seems that we've pretty much all placed ourselves in Cyrodiil, after getting a letter, so the journey will begin after the Emperor's speech, I presume?

Another thing, just to make sure I'm getting this right; The Emperor is sending different groups out for different artifacts, and there happens to be one artifact for every two provinces. We will be but one of those groups, searching specifically for the Roots. Am I right?

Also, I remember there being guns in the last one. Can I respectfully ask that we not include them this time?

Actually, if I were the emperor. I would send multiple groups after each artefact. And I'm not just talking about mercenaries with the occasional spy mixed in. I'm talking about spies already deployed in the province, perhaps orders sent to a nearby general to prepare his troops to march. Of course, all the other groups can remain out of our sight and fail offscreen.

I'm not sure how open we want the hiring sequence to be, so I'll let Uleni handle the emperor's speech.

And I second the no-guns statement. They would look off and last time I checked, Tamriel is safely in a zone of technological stasis. Or even regression, considering the recent loss of spells like passwall, daedra (Azura and co.) summoning, loss of spears, crossbows, flails, removable underwear, multilayered clothing, armour being reduced to a few big simple pieces. tongue.gif

Oh, and maybe I should talk about Semir's disguise. I was going to put him among the mercenaries, but then I realized that he's a spy so he should do spy-things. Anyway, his identity is Simon Perdien as already mention. Just imagine him in some gaudy Noble-man's outfit. With a full black beard, black hair and some heavy jewellery.

After we get the Briefing, we go to Morrowind.


AND CAN I MAKE A SUGGESTION? Big RPs such as these have many players (duh). And things can go really haywire when it comes to posting our characters. Anybody knows of "Round-Robin"?

Basically, we take turns at posting so we can have this RP organized and orderly. Aaand, if anybody here gets absent for a while, the next guy-in-line would post.



Kinda like:


Uleni = Ahrenil = Jack = Dantrag = Grif = SaQin = Lord Revan

I really don't know which "line" we need to choose, so maybe you guys have some suggestions? Anybody wanna go first in line? middle in line? last at line? Waiting for ideas.

Yeah, I think a line might be kinda handy.

Although I'd like to add a rule: if a character speaks to another character DIRECTLY, they should be allowed to respond before there turn. e.g: the line would be Uleni=Jack=Revan=Ahrenil=Saqin=grif=etc. in this case.

"Would you mind passing me that platter, Taedril" says Semir.

"Of course, sir" Taedril replies.

So, only if a character is asking another a question, or asking for something.

I have no problems with a line. As for who goes when, I posted not too long ago so I'll wait for everyone else to respond first.

And moving on to planning. How do people want to handle the backstage recruitment? As for Semir, I was thinking of having him excuse himself from the banquet. I can always use the excuse that he's off to get himself cleaned. (Thanks, you mysterious jester!) While cleaning up, he'll revert to Semir Grey and his regular outfit. Simon Perdien is a fool and not someone who the Emperor would even bother to notice. Not to mention that if someone saw Perdien enter a room with mercenaries, questions would be asked which someone might lead back to places Semir doesn't want them to go.

Also, I see the return of Cyldreen...Celdryn. Now given his mention as being an ex-knight of Daggerfall and personal bodyguard even, it would make sense for Semir to have at least passing knowledge of the guy. I don't expect this to be too important as he was probably just intended as a cameo. First off, I'll assume that he's a bit more stable than a certain other masked guy with similar name. Would it be fine if Semir's train of thought mentions that he's heard rumours regarding Celdryn's retirement and potential other functions besides his official knighthood? I'll keep it vague. Rumours, just rumours.

So, Jack... Did you like jelly balls landing on your head? I did! Muahahahah. And the excuse that he's off to get himself cleaned seems good. And this time's Celdryn is somewhat 'stable'. Its fine that Semir only hears rumors about Celdryn. In fact, that was what I'm aiming for!

The line idea definitely adds more structure, and will likely eliminate dead times, which I like. This is somewhat unrelated, but I also like the way Uleni's posts add direction and move the plot, giving us all something to go on, so awesome job there.

But - do we plan on making exceptions for direct conversations between two players, as mentioned by grif? Also, if the main group becomes separated, do you then have two lines?

If no exceptions are made, and we always follow the predetermined order of posting, everything should work just as smoothly, but we will be slowing things down, which is the last thing RPs around here need.

Either way, I'll go with whatever is decided, just figured I'd throw in my two cents.

I agree that a line will slow it down, but I think that's preferable to being left behind in the rp. So yeah, I'd rather have a line than not. I'm okay with direct conversations being an exception, as in a person being allowed to answer before his/her turn.

So Taedril just asked Semir if he got the same letter. Now if I'm correct, that means I can jump the line and reply.

Hmm, that could be problematic. Semir would try to disengage from any conversation asap at the moment and get to the rendezvous. On the other hand, I'd kinda hoped he would arrive last/nearlast since he's going through a costume change and all which takes time.

So how about this. I have Semir reply to Taedril while excusing himself at the same time. Semir will then start his costume change in the same post. He will finish the change in my first post after that and arrive at the meeting. Since during the change he is isolated from all the other characters, I think it wouldn't cause any problems.

I'm gone all day tomorrow, so I'll just post right now. If there are problems, just put it in the planning thread, ignore Semir and I'll fix it when I get back.

Caboose.... You should go to the planning thread before posting. There's a line for posting, you see, and that line (I think) keeps the RP clean and orderly. It goes like this:

Ahrenil = Jack Cloudy = Me = Saqin = Grif = Dantrag = Lord Revan

Since the line is in order of which we posted our characters, that means you're the last. Not meant to be antagonizing, but that's the rule. Can you please edit that out? That's all I can think of cleaning that out, TBH. You guys have any ideas?

I don't like the idea of leaving an empty post either. I'd say we let it slide and consider this his introduction-post that establishes the character. It also gives him the option (which Caboose used) to have Kelzar arrive in time, instead of being forced to embarass himself by coming in late.

One thing though. Reading from the context, I assume that the 'Breton rushing away from the table' is Semir. This leads to two problems at the end of your post.
1: Semir is not even remotely near the little room with the Emperor.
2: When he does arrive, he will look, talk and act completely different.
So could you please edit out the part with Kelzar recognizing the Breton? I'd appreciate it. smile.gif

Anyway, I've got nothing to say on that subject, so let's move on.

Uleni, could you edit the first post in the planning or perhaps the playground thread and add the posting-line to it? I know that I'll forget about it all the time and having an easy place to see it would save me time looking for it.

And regarding the dialogue-interruption rule. If it resets the line each time it's used, we'll get nowhere. So how about we claim that interuption (is it with one r or two?) is ignored as far as postinglines go? When making a dialogue-interuption, you could start your post like this:

INTERUPT Semir Grey

dialogue goes here.

Heres a suggestion for the RP: If somebody doesn't post for a long time,(two weeks maybe?) we should be allowed to "move on". However, The missed out guy/gal can post their go whenever they want for that cycle of the line.

IDK, grif. "Whenever they want" seems like abusing the line, at least for me. I agree that we move on when they don't post, but the order of the line should maintain its roster. Keeps it nice and orderly and, you know, not confusing.

Personally I dont have a problem with it. However it might be a little awkward since the emperor just gave his private speech, but I suppose we can work around it. For example, Lord Revan isn't even near the IC.

I'd say you should make your character first and come up with a background. That might help give us a good idea on how to get you in the group. Or you could pretend your guy/girl was always around, but hadn't said a thing yet.

I also suggest you read the planning thread first. There are a few new ideas we're experimenting with which are detailed here.

And finally, something completely unrelated. I came across the notes I'd taken on Semir's disguise. Turns out I forgot to remove the skinbleach and trim his beard. Ah well.

Hmm.. Well, since Nihri's one of the Big Cats, I suppose she can handle the heat. And I agree with Dantrag, schism and rivalry makes this RP all the more enjoyable! I hope we can see fights and betrayals along the way for the Roots! Just don't take it all personally, ey?

Since you guys hate Khajiits, I think the Smiler's hatred for dunmeri should be made apparent by now.

Nihri mightn't like it, but it really is a great opportunity for interactions to have her being quite disliked from the start. And as Uleni said, she is one of the big cats and knows how to take care of herself. Besides she's a warrior unlike most other khajiiti, if she can't break loose from the view most people has of khajiits, I can't think of another khajiit who could.

As for Celdryn joining the party... I don't know o_O

Well, Semir would not even consider working with someone like Celdryn unless explicitly ordered to do so. At least if Celdryn is remotely like Cyldreen. He doesn't like uncertainties and blatanly crazy murdertastic guys even less. Which I think, would mean he'll be more than a bit wary of the Smiler. Who knows what's hiding behind the mask after all. As for the other people in the party, he'll just keep a general eye on them till he knows what he's dealing with but other than that will be polite and friendly enough.

On another note, I'm thinking of maybe adding a second character by the time we get to the Argonian border. It depends on what we've got running by then and if there's still room. For now, my idea goes towards Hornhead the slightly crazy (but not violent) Argonian courier/scout/general run and jump guy.

Anyway, yes, it is Ahrenil's turn and no, Tellie hasn't posted her character yet. I really wish she would bring back the raging bad-@ss Zaeed Wasabi.

So, when we encounter him, he would go like:

"*greets us* Wasabi! *rage rage rage because that(s how he rolls* WAAAAASSSAAAAABIIIII!"

Yeeeeeeeeeaaah. I like him and his personality. I don't know why, but I guess you could say ... *puts on a radical pair of sunglasses*

OK, before I post can I get one thing straight from you guys? What transportation should we use to go to Mournhold? The Legatus says we should use boats, but I'm not sure of that plan anymore. Simply because I clean forgot about Lord Revan's situation. He was in the border between Cyrodiil and Morrowind, if I remember correctly. So if we take boats, that means going south towards Topal Bay and then looping around so we can dock in Mournhold.

In short, we will bypass him COMPLETELY if we use boats. If we go by this, which I imagine all of you don't want to, we could have him captured by the army of the dark elves and then taken to Mournhold as a POW, and then he could meet our group. In Revan's last post, his character meets a prisoner of war. If that POW's warden comes back, well.. you get the picture. With Lord Revan's authorization, we can have this.

Or just ignore the poor Legate and go by carriage or horses, and thus meet Valero. Which choice you guys choose, I will follow.

God, I really screwed up in this one. T____T Sorry guys.

Well, one other way is by ignoring mournhold completely. Granted, this will require the guys and girls to discuss the alternate plan first and vote on it. But anyway, here is my reasoning, or Semir's if you want.

1: The legatus' plan was to put it mildly, simplistic. It is also rather obvious. While the boat was supposed to be subtle according to the guy, Semir expects the docks to be under observation. Now take our motley gang of mercenaries and have them board an unmarked boat. A small merchantmen or whatever the legatus thought appropriate and sneaky. Now have said boat leave the harbour at night. Boat, strange passengers boarded in the dark, plus it leaves at a weird time. Can you say suspicious? Hell, even if we leave along with a lot of other boats in the middle of the day, we'll still stand out. News of all those mercenaries at the party, and the lot that left after receiving letters from the champion of Cyrodiil him/herself, will spread like wildfire. Yeah, that wasn't very subtle, not since people were talking about it.

2: As Semir already said, he doesn't like the prepared disguises. Sure, we know he can do disguises, but the disguise needs to be geared to the situation and level of preparation available. Doing a peasant or other low-class civilian is easy, mercenary likewise. Nobles or even middle-class merchants take more time, both in ways of appearance and the necessary documents. Pretending to be a member of a highly exclusive, elite order with a religious backbone takes months, at least. So in short, the robes might work. Ordinators? Yeah, Semir isn't going to place any bets on that one.

Ordinators are ridiculously visible and are kept to very strict standards by every level of the population, not the least of which being other Ordinators and the priesthood. And in Mournhold those standards are probably the highest. It is the capital after all. He wouldn't just need to learn the right words, but when to say them, in what tone, how fast or slow. How to walk, how to react to things and other people. To make it all seem natural. Experience can cut down on the amount of needed preparation, but he doesn't have that. Not disguising himself as an Ordinator or something similar. And this is just for the guy who has disguises as part of his job description.

Actually, we can go with the disguise plan. We just need to liberate some Bonemold or Chitin first. Those sets also come with face concealment, are military in nature which will help when meeting the Dunmeri army and they're used by less important folk.

3: We don't actually have information on how to contact the Mournhold informant. Ok, this is nitpicking. tongue.gif Anyway, we could solve that by retconning one of our Blades into having the info. The more elegant solution would be to have it waiting on the boat.

4: By the time we reach Mournhold, the front will have moved. I also expect that we'll then have to go to said frontlines. So basically we'll be spending precious time doing catchup. Better perhaps is to go straight to said frontlines and try to infiltrate there. This is also where the most up to date information regarding the search can be found. I'm assuming the Dunmer didn't just decide to invade Argonia because last sunday had such nice weather. We could copy that information and use it for our search. The most risky option would be to wait till the Dunmer had found it, then run in and snatch it before they can whisk it away.

5: If the Argonians are the ones to find the loot, we'll have similar issues as with the Dunmer scenario, but it is less bad. The Argonians will be sufficiently provoked to want some payback. They'll be looking to counterattack and probably utilize the roots as an equalizer. So far, they've been doing poorly after all and they'd lose badly outside the swamps it seems. This gives us a larger amount of time to do the snatching than with the Dunmer scenario.

The other issue that I can see is that Mournhould isn't near the sea, and a group of Ordinators trekking across from the coast while the war is so far away will likely draw attention. We could probably make some decent time heading over land, and with all the attention focused at the Argonian-Dunmer border struggles we could probably cross the Cyrodil/Morrowind border quite easily.

Once inside Morrowind I suggest we disguise as civilians, or maybe just say we're mercenaries looking to earn some money on the front lines. It could give us a free ride there, since people are going to see our faces eventually, I doubt even Ordinators sleep with their masks on.

Im wondering if Taedril should disguise himself with his face revealed, so that the group seems less suspicious. At least if people saw one of us unmasked they would suspect the others to be outsiders less.

I'm assuming that if we do go with the Ordinator plan, we don't actually put on the disguise till we're right outside Mournhold. We could dirty and scratch up our armour a bit and pretend we're from an exterior patrol who were sent to deal with some Argonian deep raiders or Argonian hired mercenaries. Delay any questions from the gatekeepers by sounding tired, cranky and in need to report somewhere else pronto.


As for Taedril going unmasked. That's a pretty good idea actually, even moreso if he pretends to be the commanding officer. His eyes might stand out a bit, but I'm sure we can figure out something.

That said, I suggest we continue moving towards the docks for now. At least till Revan brings in his ideas. If we decide to change our course later, we can always make a night-time landing outside any towns and away from observers.

I've read it again and again but I don't really understand what is happening around my character or were everyone is going. Well to put it simply. After getting our briefing from Martin and the other guy, we left the palace (picking up our gear at the entrance) and have now gone to the docks where we are supposed to board a ship headed for Mournhold.

As for anything else. Not much happened other than some arguing over whether or not Martin is a good Emperor and some slight racial conflict.

This roleplay needs to speed up a bit more to make it intresting. It's just the waits are far too long. I would have suggested skype for contacting people but giving out these things on the internet is always a bit shady. If anyone has any solutions that they think would work we should discuss them. Hopefully thats okay with you guys and we can get this roleplay going smile.gif .

I think the problem is that this forum is too small and fairly inactive. We need to get more people to register, specifically roleplayers.

That would be a good idea. If we get more people to register that we know are roleplayers it would speed up a lot more. I guess pm's would be okay I just hope people check their E-mail. If anyone knows anybody that we could poach from other forums to join the roleplay we could really get things going. It might also be help if we lowered the maximum post time to 2 or 3 days to make people pay more attention. That would make things more relevant.

Instead of skype/email, why not use the chorrol chat room? We used to use it for RPs from time to time back in the day. PMs are always good too, if you're planning things b/w only two characters.

Maybe once a week we could all be on, figure some stuff out, and then if anyone misses the meeting we can post a summary of the details or a transcript of the chat in the planning thread.

Yeah chat room doesn't work for me either. I agree with Solo Rolo and that we should get rid of the line or at least until more people start posting more frequently.
