For the first time in what seems like ages, I lunched at my local all-you-can-eat faux Chinese buffet-of-choice during yesterday's weekly errand run. Hadn't planned to. But... visiting Sunday my brother laid down the law. I was to not bother getting him a card for his upcoming birthday, unless I bought from somewhere with a decent selection. He recommended Target. Our Target is in the local Mall. I needed to get him a present anyway, so added a mall Visit to my run. The Mall opens at 10am. That being the case, I left the house around 1015, shopped at the mall, drove to the buffet all of three blocks away, then swung by Wally World for groceries on the way home. (I normally begin my run NLT circa 0830 and am home for lunch.)

I worried I might not be in the mood for a big splurge meal. Turns out everything was super yummy. Except bread rolls. Those used to be heavy and flavorful. Some years back they became airy and all but tasteless. So airy they can be squeezed to marble size. Nor is there a viable substitute. They once served tasty garlic bread. It eventually morphed into something unappetizing, disappearing altogether 6m-1y ago. I knew what I was getting into when selecting a roll yesterday, so can't complain overmuch.

Chopsticks technique was unaffected by lack of recent practice, save a little uncertainty at the start.

Leftover soup from last night. I forgot to start dinner, so I made emergency soup out of an onion, an apple, a can of pumpkin, and some chicken stock. Cumin and red pepper flakes for flavoring. It's good!

I didn't even know canned soups had expiration dates! That doesn't sound good at all, you could get ptomaine poisoning!!!! What is wrong that you aren't eating; did you get snowed in at that cabin? Do I need to come up on snow skis and bring you some bird seed?
