"It was a blast, you should come sometime. " Ed replied witha sarcastic smile.

"You wouldn't happen to know any Rykar that would love to get their hands on synthetic rithum plans do you?"

Rann, Dorm

This was a fun game, Rann decided.

"Since synthetic rithum is the most common substance in the system next to feces, I would say not many."

He stopped for a second before realizing that Ed was serious. "How about every single one in the Empire?"

"Hmm figured as much, I'll just have to start from scratch again." he said to himself,
"I wonder if they will give me a new lab?" he said aloud, as he took of his shirt, and proceeded to clean his wounds with antiseptic pads from a first aid kit in the first drawer.

"Say Rann, as thing are I'll be needing some help with research, Want to help? It will give you credit for the class you skipped this morning." he grimaced as his wounds stung,

"Not really; I wouldn't be much help. I'm no good with chemistry and such; mainly computers and mechanical things. Once you make the stuff though, I'll be happy to use it in various projects." Rann didn't wait for an answer, something popped into his head.

"Be right back." He ran to his ship, retrieved his guns that were haning from a lever, and ran back to the dorm, holding them under his jacket.

"Alright, seeing as you were just attacked by Rykar, I would suggest either taking one of these, or hiring a bodyguard." he said as he took a holster off of his belt and held it out to Edward.

Nicholas Archer
Archer II

"How are the repairs on the Pearl Dagger going?" Nicholas Archer asked.

"Oh fine, just fine, " said Albert, "She'll be ready in a week."

"Well I want you to tell the mechanics they need to upp her defensive fire-power and increase the armor around those shield generators. They were able to fire right into our dock once they broke the shield generators."

"Yes Sir, specifically what do you want as far as upgrading the defensibility?"

"Any fighter shouldn't be able to come within 50 metters without being blown to compassion."

"Are you sure that's in our budget?"

"Yeah we're still running off the reserves for the contributions made in the Dresh Restoration Effort. Oh, that reminds me, on your way down, get my Financial expert."

"Yes sir," said Albert, and he left down the elevator. Minutes later a young woman came up.

"You wish to see me? Dr. Archer?"

"We're about ready to enter stage four when it comes to expanding our army, but there's a problem, currently we're running off contribution, trade routes and marketing from Fraternity. We need to find some ways to generate better income."

"Well, we could always invest?"

"Invest in what? The NDC? One of the mining corporations? They're the fastest growing. Some weapons corporations that sell to the HDF? We're not here to support those institutions."

"Well it's simple commerce," she said, "There's no way we can make money without giving sometihng to the consumers, and the consumers in turn support the HDF, except for the ones that get their supplies from Fraternity."

"Then that settles it, we're changing our attack strategy. It's time we attacked the core of the Milky Way's economy, and chop off the hand that feeds it. We pillage the Vessel corporations. Stop their army from being built, then sell their scraps, hold ransoms, you get the deal."

"Yes sir, but isn't that a little," she paused.

"Speak," said Archer.

"Unethical?"

Archer chuckled. "Unethical? It's all a matter of supporting the greater good. If we don't attack them, we'll never be able to expand our fleet to size capable of standing a chance against them in battle. My goal when I started the Peace-Fighters was to end this war, financially support the Blood movement, and set up stronger trade with the Rykars, but the government refuses to listen to our demands no matter what we do, so it's time we showed them who they're dealing with."

Edwward accepted the holster,

"I've never used a weapon," he said as he lay the weapon down on the bed.

after he had covered up the knicks he put on a new shirt and turned to face rann,

"The research isn't just rithum. I need help working on a forcefield generator and on lasers. It would be an honor to have you work with me Rann, perhaps maybe you can learn a thing or two as well." he plopped down next to the gun and picked it up to examine it,

"Besides as you said I'll need a bodyguard, I am no good at using a gun," he then returned it to Rann,

"Though I thank you for the offer I cannot accept this,"

"Fine, I'll help on one condition." Rann answered smiling while putting the holster back on his belt. "You have to promise that I'll get to blow the compassion out of an alien sometime."

Ezhu flew through the air and, just because he knew it didn't matter, he "reved"* his overdrive and left a spike on the energy readings and zipped out of the solar system and flew through space, knowing he wouldn't get caught.

Edward laughed, "Next time we meet an alein you can blow the compassion out of it,"

Edward got a notebook out from his desk, opened it and tossed it over to Rann,

"So Techie, what can you tell me about that," on the page was a diagram of the shield generator.

Rann, Dorm

"What the hell is this? You use paper?" Rann shook his head and looked at the notes.

"I don't get one thing." he spoke up after examining it for a second. "What's powering the shield, and what in it causes it to reflect lasers but not other things?"

Edward-Dorm

"It may be old fashioned, but yes I use paper." Edward said witha shrug, he couldn't really explain to anyone why he used paper, he just liked it, and rpeferred it over a plasma screen at times.

He looked over Rann's shoulder,

"Glad to see I'm not the only one stumped by this. I have been able to deduce a few things though. see here," pointing to a cylinder running along the center of the generator. "from what i have been able to tell its compressed gas. It seems to be what powers the shield itself. I haven't had time to run tests on it but my guess sit aht somehow the excited gas creates a polarized field at x distance from the generator opening." he said suggesting to the opening at the end of the cylinder.

"the field then acts like polarized glass, it blocks 50% of the waves in the electromagnetic spectrum. Now this smaller chamber here, seems to contain a different gas, which i assume produces yet another polarizeds shield blocking the other 50% of the spectrum." he looked at Rann to see if he was understanding, by the look on his face Ed could tell he was,
"I agree it is entirely inefficient I don't know why they created it. but since its only polarized gas, everything physical can pass right through it. That's my guess, I thought mayb you would be able to make more out of it, besides I'm meant to improve it and I have no ideas were to start."

"How about this," Rann said, standing up. "I go to class, and meet you in the lab, where I'll get to see this in more detail, either on a holo projector or in person, doesn't matter."

"We'll get to find out if college is all it's cracked up to be." he said as he exited the door.

Edward, dorm

"please, I can tell you right now lectures are pointless and boring, I'll have the stuff at the lab ready for when you get out."

Edward went to get his bag, only to realize that he didn't have one anymore, "Dam that ryki, now I have to buy a band new bag and PC. Oh well I needed an upgrade anyways."

With that Edward left the university and went shopping ofr new stuff. he picked up the latest Mac portable computer, as well as a new messenger bag, after he was done shopping he went bac to the university and went to check the chemistry lab, the place was overun with government officials, and health inspectors. Dr. Trepe was there.

"Hey edward, sorry for not believing you earlier, they found remains of a Rykar grenade, they said you were lucky to be alive, you should have been blown to shreds." Edward jsut looked at the scene emotionless,

"How am I to do my research now?" he asked her,

"Well considering it was not a chemical accident, the university will provide you with another lab for you to continue your research."

"Have they got any information regarding the Ryki that stole the data?"

"I'm afraid they have that as classified information and will not share with us."

Edward nodded and turned to leave,

"I'll be in the physics lab, Just send me a message when a lab is ready for me, I have a feeling rithum has more secrets than we are aware of."

With that he left and went to the physics lab, where he set up the generator for Rann to inspect. He began to looka t it himself, unable to think of anyways to improve the system, other than scrapping the entire thing.

Rann, Class

Rann walked in and sat down, only to find that it was someone else's seat. He reluctantly moved, it would only make himself look immature if he went on about the immaturity of demanding that someone leave your seat rather than just find another.

At least he was closer to the back of the room now...

The professor walked in and began lecturing about things that Rann already knew, and his eyelids got droopy...

He awoke to someone slapping him on the back of the head. "Class has been over for ten minutes!" the professor shouted.

"Sorry." Rann offered, picking up his computer and putting it in his pocket.

"Who are you anyway? I haven't seen you all year."

"Rann." he answered. "I just came here."

"Right. See that you don't sleep in my class anymore."

And people say that college professors don't care... Rann thought bitterly.

He made his way to the lab where he found mostly ashes and charred remains of furniture and computers.

"Excuse me," Rann asked the nearest person, "Where is Edward working?"

The lady pointed down the hall, and Rann walkied in.

"Is that it?" Rann asked, pointing to the generator.

Mark -- Space

"*Sigh* Damn it's boring..."

Several hours of space travel had passed and not a thing had happened. No radar spikes, Rykar smugglers, not even any interesting conversation. Mark ate the Pop-Tart he stowed away in his pocket, unstrapped himself from his seat and tried to sleep.

But sleep never came to him.

"What the?!" a voice from the 501st exclaimed over the radio, Mark came to from his trance.

"What is it?" he asked in confusion. Then he saw it. They were flying through an ominous white mist cloud. Only, the cloud was littered with spacecraft--or rather pieces of them. Large chunks of battleship hulls lingered, concealed within the cloud. A graveyard.

Mark glanced down at his NavCom (navigation comuter). . . "No way. What are we doing here? Juac! Juac get up!" The 501st and the Wildcats were flying through what has come to be known as "The Blind Sector". The same place where the Battle of Blind had taken place [?#] years ago.

Mark opened a Comlink with Amilise, "Sub Genral Amilise, what exactly are we doing here?" Mark asked rather disrespectfully. No response came. The Wildcats had disappearded from the 501st's eyes.

"Where are they?" came a voice over the radio.

"I dunno," answered another.

A small flash of light flared in the clouds in front of them and a 501st fighter exploded. Mark pulled away from the blast as did the other pilots as several more silent shots crashed through the squad. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!" Mark screamed, "Juac, you there?!"

Edward-Physics lab,UM

Edward looked up when Rann entered.

"Yes That is it over there," he said looking back down at the laser he was dismantling, "Feel free to test it out." he said without looking, he was placing his trust that Rann would be able to diassemble the generator without supervision. If the boy required constant monitoring, then Ed would hve to let him go.

Before Rann could ask Edward pointed aross the room,

"That's the testing room, if you tweak the system take it back there to test, and leave the room. it's made of double reinforced acrylic so that you can observe it from the outside, and should it blow up it will be in that contained room. " he loosened and removed the outer casing of the laser,

"Just look through the drawers and cabinets if you can't find something. Might as well figure it out youself, I could lecture you were everything is, but I doubt you would pay attention"

Juac Andrews
Site of the Battle of the Blind

-=-

The thunder resounded hard against the concrete coloumns of the building. It was a sound that Juac hadn't heard for ages, or merely years but the meaning was the same. The crude destruction that came from the brilliant flash was quite apparent to him as he casually strolled out into the growing downpour.

The sounds and feelings reminded him of any growing battle, the cliched calm before the storm. But that was exactly how it was.

Juac woke of then

-=-

"What the hell..?" Was all that managed to escape from Juac mouth before his hands instantaniously went flight controls. "COMPUTER?! WHAT THE hamster IS GOING ON!"

Juac screamed at the inanimate object as he spiraled straight threw the wreckage of a exploding 501st fighter.

Warning. Computer systems down. Inter...

The main board computer shut down, leaving Juac piloting alone without a guidance system.

"hamster! Mark!? What the hell is happening?!" He screamed, forgeting to use their calsigns

No response. He pressed another button, the straight line to the captain.

"Captain! Status report!" Nothing "Captain?!!"

Another pilot had been trying to reach the captain as well, "Juac! He's dead! That was his ship.. What do we do?" Obvious horror in the mans voice. Juac readied a may-day call and launched the beacon, while turning on all comunications with the entire 501st.

"Listen" He thought he they could actually hear him, "Captains dead. And we all weill be if we don't figure out what the hamster is going on here. All flights, drop speed and switch to combat mode!"

"Wildcats. Please report. Our CO is confirmed KIA. Requesting assistance. Wildcats do you read me?"

=====

Sub-General Anilise
Deck of the Goodfread

The figure chuckled her little evil laugh, and then turned to her "lacky", "Good, they are running around.." She paused for a second, "How do you say it? Like chickens with their heads cut off?" The General was experiencing to much glee for the senseless killing.

"Gunners, ready and fire another salvo."

Within moments two shells came streaking from the invisible BattleCruiser and slammed into two 501st fighters.

Mark quickly took in the current situation. From what he could tell the communications were down, the Wilcats had disappeared, they were back in The Blind Sector and a cloud was shooting at them.

"I have no hamster cave idea what is going on, Juac!" Mark yelled back into the mic. He turned his attention back to the area that they were being fired upon. Two more ships were hit; one getting decimated, the other losing a wing. Suddenly, the Cruiser emerged from the mist.

It was clear that 'Goodfread' of the Wildcats was firing on them. Mark laughed, "Well, Jua-- eh Rome, I'd say they don't like us very much."

OOC: hasty post, off for the night.
