Me too, please. biggrin.gif

===================

*Edit : August 14, 2006
My hubby Cain has been practicing his Dean Edge bass guitar alot. Now that we go to bed earlier (2 or 3 AM) and get up in time for afternoon, he can play it with the amp turned up. Instead of just headphones at night. He only can do basic tunes now like blues brothers song bass lines. The simple ones. I can't think of the name of the songs, sorry.

Well, just thought I'd pull this thread up to the top and see if some of our talented guitarists respond in this busy summer month. biggrin.gif

What kind of bass guitars do people here at Chorrol play? What is the latest music you've been learning. How would you recommend learning bass? Lessons, book, demo teaching tapes, etc.? Cain can take lessons at the store where he bought his Dean for $25.00 each lesson. Is that worth it usually?

I'm not an expert on bass, but yes, a teacher is worth the money.

Cool Danny ... thanx .. that's good to know. I think it's cool that he doesn't have to sign up for a series of lessons like one every week. They just leave it at $25 a lesson and you can make it weekly, monthly or whatever you want. I think that's a good way of doing it.

Well, I'm mostly self educated, just sitting down and playing...currently, I'm trying to learn the solos for the Kiss song 'I was made for loving you baby', and the entire 'Back In Black' song by ACDC...just started though, so still having a few problems...pluss, I have played guitar for what...three years almost, so I still have some learning to do.

Basically, I bought guitar pro over the net, and have learned my way out from there, but me playing El-guitar, I'm having major difficulties with classical guitar, so different to play.

AC/DC ROCKS:p

What a RAGING SMOKIN' Avatar, Tellie!! I love it!! Whoayeah ... AC/DC rock and my favorite is Dirty Deeds. tongue.gif

Thanks for telling of your learning experience. Cain is for the most part self-taught so far. Although he had basic bass lessons awhile back - past 10 years sometime ago - while he was still a drummer. He misses his drumkits so much! It's good exercise as well as creative. But there's no way he can play drums in this little condo even though the condos are rather nicely soundproofed.

So am I to understand that you play bass and classical guitar Tellie? Talented, lady biggrin.gif

mmnoooo not exactly, I dont know how to play bass, I just play El, and try off at classical some times, but I still suck at classical:(

But I wish to play bass though...but I must...resist...pull...to...dark...side tongue.gif

I also used to play drums (if only for a litle time though), but i have no desire to start with drums again...all El for me...

How about El drums? tahahaa ... remember when Alex Van Halen fooled everybody with that monster double bass drumset (black sparkle finish) BUUUUT he actually had Simmons electronic drumheads hidden down behind or underneath somehow. Simmons musta been sorry bout losing the advertising on that mighty tour - 1984. But Ludwig was Alex's first love always anyways.

So what brand of electric and classical do you play. The Dean Edge is the first bass Cain has found that really suits his hands well besides this old vintage Gibson EB3 that our landlord gave him back in the '80s.

At classical, I use an old Hofner, but my El, which I use most, is a red standard Gibson SG model...although I havent had it for more than a few months, due to the price of thsoe guitars...I wanted to make sure that I really enjoyed playing, and that I was good at playing guitar, before I bought something really good and expensive.

Good idea with making sure of your investment commitment Tellie ... Cain did the same thing with his Dean. He likes it because it's fretless too.

Well, I was in a music story today, eying a guitar...and suddenly I just saw this really striking nice Stratocaster (totally blank, so you could see through it), and well...I melted for it almost instantely as I heard the sound in it...needless to say, I bought it for a good deal of money on the spot, even though I also have a Gibson.

My new one just fits so nicely with the delicious sound, when I try myself at a litttle Iron Maiden...(I actually learned both Aces High and Number of the beastt today on guitar)...so I'm trying to break of the urge by playing them again, by playing some God of Thunder by Kiss instead.

Up the Irons.

Been learning Mastodon's Blood and Thunder

It's not all that hard, but it's one of the most fun songs to play.

That's a classic.

Been working on a lot of stuff, actually. The list includes Bladecatcher by Mastodon, Ashes in Your Mouth, Five Magics, Holy Wars...The Punishment Due all by Megadeth, and Advent and Night & the Silent Water by Opeth.

Woo!

No Hanger 18? C'mon! How can you not want to learn how to play that song!?

The guitars in Bladecatcher are just that, catchy. I always get the scale work stuck in my head.

I already know hangar 18 (excluding a lot of solos) the main song is simple, the solos would be a little much for me.

And that scale pattern in Bladecatcher that seems to repeat a lot is unfortunately different every time, making it a little more difficult to memorize.
