What do you think about making a set of armor similar to the main character's of the upcoming Ubisoft game, Assassin's Creed? Perhaps with enchantments similar to Dark Brotherhood armor.

Just a thought biggrin.gif

If it does not follow the lines of a present armor in Oblivion, so that the present armor can be retextured to look like it ... you will have to wait until modeling is possible for Oblivion. At this time, there has not yet been an importer tool made for 3d modelers to insert their work into Obliv.

I thought there has always been a nif plugin for 3dmax.

NifText and NifTexture were to hex edit your code into Morrowind - to make your recolored textures adhere to the mesh models. Now there is NifSkope to do that same thing for Oblivion. All that deals with retextures of the present mesh models.

When someone makes their own mesh model to be input in the game, that is when an importer is needed. Generally only one brand of model will work - like 3ds max worked in Morrowind but not Gmax or Blender and only one importer tool will work to put it in. It is all done by contractual agreements between the companies involved.

Im not sure exactly what you mean but it sounds like your saying you need an importer to put meshes into the game? But all you need is the CS.

Maybe im hearing you wrong, i dont meen to sound like a smart azz or anything like that im just gona say what i know.

This has nothing to do with hex editing. Nifskope is usefull for viewing the meshes, and your able to make changes to the attaches texture(dds) file, and even remove or add certain parts or the mesh.. But it is not a very good "remodeling" (if you want to call it that) program at all.

Morrowind and Oblivion Use Nif (net imerse format) files for the meshes. So by my theory, you could take a Nif from Morrowind and slap it into oblivion..
The reason you could only use 3Dmax for Morrowind was that 3Dmax is the only 3D modeling program with a Nif import/export plugin. So that this new file type could be edited in 3Dmax. Hence its not realy a new thing with Oblivion, it uses Nif files like Morrowind, and 3Dmax is the only way to open, edit, and save Nif files.

Please if I am wrong tell me the news cause i would like to know.

3D model
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

A 3D model of a character in the 3D modeler LightWave, shown in various manners and from different perspectivesA 3D model is a 3D polygonal representation of an object, usually displayed with a computer or via some other video device. The object can range from a real-world entity to fictional, from atomic to huge. Anything that can exist in the physical world can be represented as a 3D model.

3D models are most often created with special software applications called 3D modelers, but they need not be. Being a collection of data (points and other information), 3D models can be created by hand or algorithmically. Though they most often exist virtually (on a computer or a file on disk), even a description of such a model on paper can be considered a 3D model.

The 3D model can be seen in TESCS when you press the W-key and see the wire model of the objects.

QUOTE(wikipedia)
A mesh is similar to fabric or a web in that it has many connected or weaved pieces. In clothing, a mesh is often defined as fabric that has a large number of closely-spaced holes, frequently used for modern sports jerseys.

The mesh is the combined fabric of patterns that is used to cover over the wire model of the objects.

The textures are the flat peices of the mesh that are combined together onto it.

The textures are changed in photo enhancing programs such as PhotoShop, et all.

NifText, NifTexture {and I think NifSkope) are hex edit programs. This means that they are using code to enter your new model into the programming code of the game.

3ds max, Gmax, Blender, et al = are modeling programs where you can make new models from scratch. They are sometimes called mesh models because in these programs you also can add the meshes and textures to get the finished object.

They need a special Importer to get these unique models into the game because their importer introduces new code into the game. NifPrograms are just putting your recoloring onto existing game code.

Is this any help in understanding the various aspects and functions of the programs involoved?
