Barring the unexpected, I have survived our four-day-plus weather abomination. Our flood watch doesn't expire until tomorrow mid-morning, but only light rain is predicted between now and then. There were some scary times during those four days—too many scares. Anyway, the primary PC is back in use, and I am finally in sweats and house slippers again. (I wore pants and street shoes from early yesterday morning until not long ago, including sleeping in them overnight. Heck, I even kept my teeth in, they being too expensive to replace.)

Using the current secondary PC was more of a hassle than expected. It simply can't handle more than a few windows/pages open at once. Also, it repeatedly froze when visiting my weather site of choice. This caused me to nearly miss the warnings of today's worst local weather scare: a string of tornadoes in the area. Not that it mattered, my town not being in any twister's path.

This is the case with my backup computer too. It's well good enough to keep me going if I need it but it doesn't replace my primary.

Oklahoma gets some of the heaviest thunderstorms especially during April-August. Up here in the Northern part of Kansas, it's been dry as a bone and dusty.

We had a crazy thunderstorm last year, think I wrote about it in this thread. It was a constant stroboscope lightning for at least an hour. Never experienced anything like it.

Dry and dusty sounds rough. Difficult to grow stuff if one wants that.

Had some thunder this Wednesday coupled with around 30mm rainfall. Filmed some with my iPhone just to try it out. Works fine smile.gif

Had a couple of good thunderstorms rolled in Kansas for a couple of days now. Love it as we been needing them for quite some time.

<sighs> My area is expected to get severe snowfall, icing, and so on beginning this Friday, Jan 23, with the worst snow/ice fall beginning just after midnight Saturday morning and continuing through midday Sunday. If it's anything like what happened by in 2009, we can expect days-long power outages.

There's not much I can do to prepare for it, other than reschedule a Monday morning MRI, which is already taken care of. Hopefully, the city will make heated shelters available if needed, as happened in 2009.

Be careful, and good luck on the power staying on. We have the same storm front coming here, but starting on Sunday. They are already warning of power outages, so I got a kerosine heater just in case and plan to fill up the propane in the RV so we have two options. I get cold if it gets below 70 degrees, so have already been freezing here, lol.

Yeah, our chance for outages has increased, with us now getting a lot of "winter mix" rather than the pure snow that was initially predicted. One bit of potentially good? news; City Hall told me that our Community Center will serve as a heated refuge in case of power outages. It's a small building, but only a few minutes walk away. Well, a few minutes in "normal" weather. With temps as low as they are expected to be and heavy snow/sleet on the ground, all bets are off on how long it will take to get there. Oh... and best of luck to the both of us!
