Some of you may have noticed that I have been ranting and raving about how Oblivion was everything but a proper RPG and a big disappointment to me in many ways. Well, despite the fact that most games labelled "RPG" these days contain as much roleplaying as Super Mario Brothers, there are still some games being made that deserve the name. Games with choices that effect the game world, with lots of dialog, tactical combat, many many skills, you name it. One such game is Age of Decadence, being developped by Iron Tower Studios. It's their first game. They have a website up here. Now, if you expect Oblivion quality graphics, you'll be disappointed. If you expect a good RPG similar to Planescape: Torment or the Fallouts, then you might like this. A lot There's also an interview up by GameBanshee with Vince D. Weller, the main force behind Age of Decadence here.

...that part about Alchemists in that char. sheet made me giggle thanx Starge. I probably won't keep an eye out for this game, but it's always good to know there are forces in shadows, reluctant to give up & surrender to conformity.

"You see ruins of a large town" That reminds me of some old rpg I once played. It was quite funny. One day, I burst into a meeting of the big bad leaders of the big bad gang. I surrendered and they decided to execute me. After five miserable execution attempts, I got fed up with the tiny bit of damage and just gave them some good old trashing. I loved that bit, for once the leaders weren't ubertough. Ah, I love rpg's like that. So if they go create whole stories through descriptions to add some flavour, it could become good indeed.

Wow I checked out the screenshots, it actually looks like there is some roleplaying involved from the conversations. I hate games where no matter what option you pick its always the exact same outcome and this doesn't look like one of those.
Also appears to have plenty of skills and factions as well, I'll be watching this one.

Yeh, they do like bells n whistles. Ohh, there is this huge ad now in Oblivionish colors by the website www.Kotaku.com that says "So we are probably going to like Gothic III a helluva lot better than Oblivion ..." The lettering looks almost Daedric. Such a ripoff ad IMO. Although Cain really does like Gothic & Gothic II and is looking forward to GIII; I feel that advertising on your own merits is way better than trying to backstab another game. You set up a comparison like that and you just might fail miserably. So anyway ... did you know that FarFallen by our friends here at Chorrol is going to be even more sophisticated than Age of Decadence? I cannot say too much, but you should see the team of artists, modelers and musicians they have organized. It's awesome ... yuo oughta pay them a visit. They love visitors at FarFallen Studios and will take your suggestions and ideas very seriously. You could influence what may become a major game someday!

Someone asked that on TESF and VDweller, the main man behind this game, said that you can try it out for free first and then decide if you want to buy it, similar to Mount & Blade. Since the game is still a bit away, he couldn't give details on things like download size and such.

Ok thanx, but how do you try it for free, i don't see a link or anything that would indicate a free trial on the website.

here is a link from my email >>> http://www.gamespot.com/promos/2006/compan...demo/index.html <<<. That link is for the Company of Heroes demo that you can download and play for free. Its a war game and it looks pretty good. You can be among the first to play it and give the devs feedback to boot. That could keep you busy for awhile and do everyone who plays it some good in the long run.

Looks very nice. Very RPGy, and as Vince D. Weller is the Admin of the RPG Codex, home of true Role Playing fanatics, we're in for a very good game for sure.
Most indie developers make great games anyways, so I have high hopes for this one too.
