My favourite song, however, is Little Wing by Jimmy Hendrix.

"Little Wing" is brilliant, amazing, and several other adjectives that imply excellence. I have a track of Hendrix playing it live, and it is breathtaking. Derek and the Dominos did a great cover on the Layla album, that I love, as well.

Hard for me to pick between "Little Wing" and his performance of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", which is pretty much the greatest cover ever made, of anything. But yeah, "Little Wing" might also be my favorite song ever. It's that, the Dylan cover, the Dominos' "Bell Bottom Blues", or perhaps "We're Going Wrong" from Cream.

Favorite band from Tucson, Arizona that mixes indie rock, tejano, and folk-rock: Calexico. I bought Carried to the Dust recently and it is cool. "Inspiracion" is in my head right now.

So did Stevie Ray Vaughn. It's an instrumental version that kicks boat. I don't play guitar, but if I did, and I could just play one more song before I died, it would be the SRV version of that song.

Every version of it is awesome, though.

I take it you're a fan...

Though I must say that it is currently battling it out with 'When the Levee Breaks' and 'The Lark Ascending' (yes, I realise that my taste in music is rather eclectic).

I've had "Will It Go Round in Circles" by Billy Preston stuck in my head for quite some time now.

Click here if you would like to suffer the same affliction

At least it's a GOOD song stuck in my head. There was this one time when it was "We Built This City" by Starship. *shudder*

I don't suppose now would be a good time to say I actually quite like that song?

Oh, and check this out.

Sure it would. I like it, too.

Also, the track you posted is actually quite good. It's the sort of "good" progressive rock that I like. In progressive rock, the line between "good" and "crap" is a very thin one indeed. And that track wasn't crap. There's some great riffage, and the jam/solo isn't tedious.

Incidentally, my brother had a friend back in high school who was really into Dream Theater.

I don't listen to rock anymore, not that I ever really did. The Beatles are good, though, and I have a great respect for Hendrix, although I haven't heard much of his stuff.

Mallet, how are Snow Patrol rock?

I've somewhat lost my liking of Snow Patrol with their last album. They got too soft for me after they got rid of the bassist that played on the "Final Straw" album. If I were to get really specific on Snow Patrol's genre, I'd lump them into the "British Pop-Rock" type deal. I thought "Final Straw" was a rock album because quite a few songs have a good deal of bass to it.

Hmm let's see, on a shared first place we have:

Iron Maiden, Judas priest and Manowar

2:Blind Guardian
3:AC/DC
4:Led Zeppelin
5:Metallica
6:Jimi Hendrix
7:Quiet Riot
8:Twisted Sister
9:Skid Row
10:Ingenting (means 'Nothing' in Norwegian). It's a band that sings songs about how hard life can be, bringng up subjects like sex, alcohol, smoking, stupid mistakes, politics, being arrested by police and other stuff...but unlike modern day Punk Rock bands like My Chemichal romance and the likes it's not filled to the brink with angsty EMO talentless whining, and most of the songs have a strong moral and best of all...HUMOUR

I cannot pick one favorite, but among those I like most, in no particular order:

Led Zeppelin
Bob Seger
Sarah McLachlan
Our Lady Peace
Ayumi Hamasaki (she probably does not count at Rock though)
Enya (definitely not Rock!)
Blue Oyster Cult
Queen
Counting Crows
Ted Nugent
Elton John
Foo Fighters
Green Day
John Mellencamp
Live
Meat Loaf (as long as Jim Steinman is writing the songs)
Nightwish
Sammy Hagar
Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath/Ronnie James Dio (there is a lot of crossing over in here)

AC/DC. Oh, mALX, great to see you support the Aussies!!

Me, however, I grew up as a heavy metal teenager of the 80's.
My fav band was Kreator. German thrash all the way!!

I also love early Cure songs. The 'faith' album was insane for its time.
Primary, the funeral party, the drowning man- all classics.

Interesting collection of bands SubRosa.
I thought you were a goth girl. No the Cure, Depeche Mode, Ramones or Sex Pistols, what is going on??

More recent bands

The Levellers (love the Zeitgeist album)
Cryptopsy

I have all of the latter, I would just not rate them as my favorite bands is all. They all have some good albums, but not enough for me to rank them that high. The others have a lot of good albums, imho.

Disintegration is my favorite Cure album, and Pictures of You my fav song of theirs. My fav goth band would have to be Sisters of Mercy though, closing in before Bauhaus (I love Bela Lugosi's Dead). While The Clash is my fav punk band.

Radiohead rules! They're rock/electronica/metalica, and sometimes, they are kind of, I dunno, like, calm.
