If you wait for one of Steams sales to buy Skyrim; you can get it for almost nothing! I got the GOTY Special Edition (Legendary or something) for about 10-12 US dollars a couple years ago. (New Vegas was under 3 US dollars!) When I bought Fallout 4 at the Christmas sale it was just like 20 US Dollars for the GOTY with all the DLC. WOO HOO!!! If you and I are on the same game again, my head will explode !!!! *mALX knocks computer over while doing cartwheels across the floor...*

QUOTE(mALX @ Feb 5 2019, 12:51 PM) QUOTE(Kane @ Feb 5 2019, 12:35 PM) Steam always has to be running, but setting it to offline mode prevents it from updating your games or updating itself.
Right! It is always there when I boot up the PC; but other than that I never had to fool with it. I bought the GOTY games years after the games were out; so all the game updates should have been installed then. So technically; the only thing I was avoiding was Steam's updates; which were excessive and always caused problems with their own setup. You can also disable Steam on start-up so that you have to launch it yourself. I do this because the more things running when your PC starts, the longer it takes to boot.

I didn't disable it on my startup because it had a setting that would delay it from starting for a minute after booting or something. It used to launch before the Desktop page even opened till I changed that setting. QUOTE(mirocu @ Feb 5 2019, 12:56 PM) QUOTE(Kane @ Feb 5 2019, 06:49 PM) One of us! One of us!

Okay, well the Doom that was launched in 2016 is on sale right now for 15 US Dollars. (actually, 14.99). That is 25% off their normal price for it. QUOTE(mirocu @ Feb 5 2019, 12:30 PM) But how does that work? Do I have to go online and play the game through Steam anyway?
No, you just open up the games from either your desktop icon or right clicking on Steam in your items list and choosing the game you want from the drop down list. I stayed in Offline mode the entire time from 2015 to this past December when I bought Fallout 4; and during those years I played all my games on my Steam account (Fallout 3; New Vegas; Skyrim Legendary; etc) and even made mods with the Creation Kits and Gecks! The only things you have to go online for is to update your game; purchase something; or view your account. That said: I am not sure if you still have to have an internet connection working while in Offline mode; though. The reason I don't know is because we had Wifi and I was on my Laptop throughout most of those three years; and when I changed over to the PC I had it hooked to the internet the whole time. The reason I'm not sure about that is because = when I was on my XBox 360 and put it into the Offline mode; I was able to play it with no internet connection at all (but I had the game disks then; whereas my Steam games are all "virtual" if I'm not mistaken). I mean = there are still game files on my PC; but I don't think they downloaded the entire game in those files. The only game I'm sure I have all the files for is the regular Skyrim because I have that disk. This post has been edited by mALX: Feb 5 2019, 08:03 PM

Behrd is correct. There are special steps involved with installing from disc. This guide is from Gstaff himself. I'm fairly certain you can play without an internet connection, though. Might have to test that out tonight! This post has been edited by Kane: Feb 5 2019, 08:29 PM

Sure about this? From what I understand the disc just installs some files and the rest are downloaded. Oh, well I probably forgot that they screwed us that way. I know I got some of their files through the FOMM though. At the time Skyrim came out you could use the Fallout Mod Manager to open up the Skyrim ESM's for use in modding = I opened them up to a file folder so I could sort the meshes/textures/animations/voice files/Papyrus scripts into my own personal files. So I probably have more of those files than I am supposed to have. I noticed in trying to mod Fallout 4 that shortly after it was released Bethesda patched out the ability to use the Fallout Mod Manager to open the files up. I am sure by now that modders have figured out another way to get around that blockade or devised another BSA extractor = I hope so.

You click on "Stay in Offline Mode" and that is it; the only interaction you need to have with them in Offline mode.
Hmm. Suddenly Doom 2016 is a viable option, methinks. I'd just hate to cave in to Steam I had to cave for Skyrim....

Though if you want to mod Skyrim, you'll want to update it before offlining Steam. Things like SKSE and certain other mods require an updated game. Skyrim legendary edition I don't think gets updates anymore. Special edition does, with all the creation club crap. Breaking the script extender weekly.

I am pretty sure Bethesda is doing all they can to break the modding community's grip so they can move on to in-game modding only instead of providing the editors. But yeah; I had to reload all my Steam games just two days ago when Steam somehow couldn't find its own files where THEY put them on my hard drive. That is the second time they have done that since December; and they also made it where I can no longer take screenshots with the Fallout 4 game and "Print Screen" function (the screenshots that show up in the game folder). Now I HAVE to use Steam's F12 and hunt down my screenshots in the "User" folder. (which is another thing they are in my black books for currently).
