OCC: Ok, I can't promise I'll be able to get online with regularity until Friday night. If this is too heavy-handed, just say so.

Autumn

She regarded Karelia for a moment, then shook her head. "I had you marked when you walked into Haven." Autumn's mind started to swim. "I just have to look at you and I can see you're one of them."

One the militia responders, Ethan, came to her side. He turned to where Gale was working with two others to gather the bodies. "Captain, we could use you over here."
Gale turned in time to see Autumn toss away the pin of a grenade, Ethan grab her from behind, Autumn's throw go high. And the grenade bounced under Frigerizer Z......

Karelia

"You had me marked?" she said to the girl as she walked away, "You little-"

She stopped mid-sentence as she dumbly watched a grenade leave the girl's hand, sail through the air, and land right beneath her seat. Of all her many regrets, her biggest at that moment was that she never did whale on a brat with a whiskey bottle.

"Sam! Watch out!" she shouted to her nearby friend as she abandoned the FRIGERIZER to its fate, hoping that Sam would be quick enough to do the same. She jumped farther than she thought she could, and hit the ground with a roll. She was face down on the ground with her arms covering her head when the thing exploded. When she finally did stand up, her balance was a bit shaky.

Karelia found that her pistol was in her hand, ready to fire. With a deep breath, she made a conscious effort to put it back in her belt.

Ugh, she's lucky a whole militia here's got her back. If this was any other place, any other time, that girl would be dead and I'd be laughing.

"That one's yours, right?" she asked Gale, though she pointed at Autumn, "Well keep that doggie on a shorter leash, 'cause if she tries to nip at me again I ain't gonna play nice. She'll get put down."

It was a fair enough warning in her mind, though she hoped that Gale took it as a warning and not a threat. She didn't think it really mattered though; she had a sneaking suspicion that after this little incident she wasn't staying in Haven anymore.

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan bent down and picked up a rifle that had fallen on the ground.
"Oh sweet, this baby's got a scope, and a mount for attaching bayonets! Just wait till I mount those on my pistol. Oh yeah." He said to himself with mad glee. Just then, he heard an odd explosion behind him. Surprised and with eyebrows raised, he turned to see what all the ruckus was about.

"Wuh, I thought we were done with the fighti....FRIGERIZER Z!!! No, my friend! What have they done to you?!" He screamed as he saw the flames licking at the machine's wrecked hulk.
"Who did this?!! I swear, I´ll tear their freaking heads of their skulls and feet it to their toads! I spent years building it!!! Now answer me! WHO!!!! DID!!!! THIS!!!!!` He raged, holding the rifle at the barrel and waving it at random people.

OOC± Yeah, he´s pissed and not sane enough to take a look at the situation and figure out who the culprit is, or that she´s got the entire militia behind her. And my keyboard is messing up all of a sudden. ~ that tilde was a plus/sign and the slash was a normal line. wacko.gif

Hannah

When Auntumn's grenade exploded under the refridgerator Hannah was close enough to be thrown back. When she finally rose a little shakily to her feet, she saw Karelia and Jonathan looking utterly pissed and Autumn walking off a little hatefully.

"You okay Karelia?" A man asked who she assumed was the leader of Karelia's small group of companions asked. The ex-Raider didn't respond but continued to stare after Autumn. Hannah shook her head slowly. Gale needed to watch Autumn more carefully if he expected her to live through all the people that hated her. Which among those seemed to be Karelia now. And me, seeing as she's pissed me off badly a few times before this, Hannah thought to herself.

Aidan

When the last raider fell Aidan stood and went to loot the fallen. He was rifling through the pockets of a laser burnt corpse when there was an explosion. Instinctively he dropped, Grenade, frag, probably local made, he thought and glanced up. It had gone off by the strange fridge-based thing Karelia had been behind and by the looks of it had been thrown by one of the local militia. He pulled out his 10mm and cocked it with his mutilated right hand then walked deliberately over to the contraption.

When he got there the other man who had been scavenging was waving a rifle around and shouting. He glanced and saw that, other than some scrapes, Karelia had been lucky. He stepped up to the militia and pulled out a grenade. “Is there a problem here?” he asked, pushing his right index finger though the pin.

Gale

"Irene, take care of things here." He ordered, storming after Autumn back into Haven. Seeing him going after Autumn, Ethan stopped and went back to help the other responders. Gale slowed his pace once he crossed under Haven's gate. No longer actively pursuing his daughter, the militia captain simply trailed her through the streets, gradually closing the distance.

By the time he reached Autumn's side, Gale was mentally prepared to be patient with her. He cleared his throat, knowing that Autumn was fully aware of his presence already. When she remained silent, Gale spoke up. "It seems that.... Karelia is no longer running with the raiders."

Autumn swallowed, then gazed meaningfully to her father. "A raider umbrella seller is a raider umbrella seller until the day it's a dead raider umbrella seller."
Gale considered the sad truth to that commentary, the traits that made the raiders what they were, unadulterated self-interest and a callous disregard for human life, were difficult things to abandon. Those that survived in this world were generally too embedded in that marauding mindset to ever truly coexist with other human beings.

"We have no prove she provoked the other raiders to attack Haven." He said after a while. "But whatever happens, you are not going to be involved." Gale stared Autumn in the eyes to emphasize his point. "Autumn, as a member of Haven's militia, you have a responsibility to it's citizens. And that responsibility is more than killing raiders, understand?"

She stopped walking and scrutinized the floor. "Yes, I understand. But she needs to be dealt with."
They locked eyes for a moment, finally Gale replied. "The patrols out in the city could use some help; for now, I want you to lend them a hand."

Autumn nodded, it wasn't the first time she'd been patrolling out in Detroit. Gale knew she perferred scavenging in the ruins to skulking around Haven's streets. It would also distance her from the situation here. Compared to the travelers, Gale was certain Autumn would be safer in Detroit.

Jonathan Guntherson

No one dared reply to him, repulsed by the mad gleam in his eyes. If it came to violence, there was little doubt that Jonathan would be taken down. But in his current state, it would take some effort and there was no telling who he might injure with his rifle.

Still too furious to contemplate the situation, Jonathan stomped towards the militia group.
"Answer me! Who the hell dared touch my FRIGERIZER?!!" He screamed.
"Tell me already, you bunch of mute silent rhodents!" Apparantly realizing that the weapon he was holding was a slugthrower and not a club, he shifted his grip and now levelled the barrel into the general direction of the group.
"The one who'd done this had better step forward or I swear, I'm going to splatter all your filthy tongues over the walls here! You damn cowards, attacking a defenseless super robot of awesome!! THAT!!! WAS!!! MY!!! FRIEND!!!" His finger crept towards the trigger.

Linda

Slipping from where she sat against the shredded stump, her hand traced it's way along Jonathan's arm, and closed her fingers around his wrist, and she shook her head discouragingly. She paused a moment, looking at the blackened box as a wheel creakily spun on it's bent axle, and stroked the back of the mad-inventor's hand, before pointing at the contraption and back at him accusingly, with another shake of her head.

Her off hand slid down her own side, picking at the buckle over her pistol, yanking it out, and holding it loosely, finger just inside the safetyless trigger-guard.

Karelia

Gale left without an answer, leaving 'Irene' behind to clean up and Jonathan was none too happy about his refrigerator. She thought of trying to calm him, but didn't really know how. What could you say to someone this upset about their refrigerator? Luckily, Linda seemed to handle it, and didn't even need to say anything.

Karelia was tired and angry, her hands were still red with Lexie's blood, her entire body was covered in grime from the explosion, her ears were ringing, and to top it all off, she found a white shard of FRIGERIZER lodged in her forearm.

"I need to sit down," she said mostly to herself and found a spot on the ground next to the wall. With a curse reserved for 'militia girl' Karelia pulled the shrapnel from her arm and winced. It was a minor wound, but still bled a lot so she held the gash with her free hand to stem the flow a bit.

Aidan

Aidan holstered his pistol and returned the grenade to its pouch. He wandered over to the madman Linda was comforting. He seemed to be upset about the blackened remains of a fridge which they had been hiding behind in the gunfire, a wheel hung crookedly from it and oil dribbled like black blood from the bottom.

He nodded to its owner, “It’s a pity,” he said, “But think of how much better it will be once you repair it.” It might help, or not, either way Linda seemed to be managing.

“You alright?” he called to Karelia.

Karelia

"Yeah," she answered Aidan, calming a bit to realize that she really was okay, "I think my arm's gonna heal before my ego. Lil' girl's got spunk, gotta give her that."

It was true. Karelia was more bothered by the fact that Autumn had so quickly thrown her into an awkward and hopeless situation. After the grenade, there was really nothing she could do to retaliate, only stand there stupidly and take the insult, which she did. It made her seethe inside. But seething could wait. She was exhausted from her long journey and their subsequent adventures in Haven.

"Where were those beds?" she asked, "Delta terminal? Am I still allowed in there?"

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan was surprised when a hand suddenly closed around his wrist. Looking for its owner, he found out that it belonged to a silent woman, who apparantly tried to tell him something using nothing but sign language.

"Wuh, who the hell are...Oh right! I've got to check if it's loaded first! Gun safety first, make sure never to pull the trigger when there is a bullet in the chamber!...something sounds off about that." He said, calming down while simultaneously misinterpreting the message.

"It’s a pity, but think of how much better it will be once you repair it.” A man said, before turning to Karelia to inquire about her wound. Those words completely changed Jonathan's train of thought. While he was first focussed on finding someone to blame and punish, now he was focussed on what he could do with the remains.
"You know what, you're right. Obviously there were a few flaws in the design. What it needs is some 30 millimetres of reinforced Titanium to protect all the vulnerable sections, as well as switching over to a more robust tracked system for propulsion and hey you guys! Aren't you using some kind of engine to move that gate? Mind if I borrow it for a while, I need the extra horsepower to move the armour. Oh, and an anti-grenade laser turret! Got one of those?"

Hannah

She was left feeling a little awkward when Karelia started talking a man and Jonathan rambled madly to himself. Linda stood off to the side looking about the same as Hannah felt. Hoping she remained unnoticed to avoid any questions she slipped away to find something else to do. No one would miss me here anyways, she thought, and slipped under the gate into town.

Haven Militia, Irene

Irene was pleased to see someone calm the enraged man before Ethan had to pacify him forcibly. When he started asking about the motor for Haven's gate, she shook her head. "We like to keep the same unit installed for as long as possible, but perhaps you could inquire the scavenger parties, they'd be willing to sell or exchange one with you."

Then the traveler Autumn had identified as a former raider asked whether she was still welcome to Delta Terminal Quarters. "For now you may use them, but an extended stay could prove troublesome for all of us."

Karelia

She nodded and headed in that direction after slinging her rifle back over her shoulder and lighting a cigarette for the walk. Her arm was still bleeding slightly, and Karelia grew tired of holding it, so she let go.

It wasn't long before she saw the sign for Delta Terminal, and as she kept on, she found another sign that read 'Accomodations'. Beside it was another pointing to the Clinic. Remembering Lexie, she headed for the latter. Jonathan was so upset about his contraption now that he'd seemingly forgotten his friend, and Karelia guessed the girl would want some company. She didn't usually do this type of thing, and wasn't sure why she was now.

Maybe militia girl's right, in a way. Maybe nothing can make up for what I've done...

No, she decided. That girl had been out of line. The past was the past; what mattered was the present. And the future, though that was always less certain.

She entered the clinic; it was nothing special. There were two small rooms lined with beds and another room full of medical equipment Karelia couldn't name, and the two doctors there were always wheeling machines in and out of it.

"Um, excuse me, sir?" Karelia said, trying not to interrupt the doctor's work, but wanting to find Lexie.

"Hold on," the doctor said as he injected an unconscious patient with medicine. When he was done, he turned to face Karelia and noticed her arm, "Oh, my! I'll get that patched right up for you. It's not a major injury; ten caps."

Karelia shook her head. She didn't have the caps anyway, "I ain't here for that. I need to see Lexie, is she here?"

He shook his head, "I don't know a Lexie."

"She got shot outside the gate a few minutes ago," Karelia explained, "I just wanna make sure she's doin' alright."

"Oh, right. We just finished stitching her up after we pulled the bullet and gave her some stimpacks. She'll be fine, but she'll be hurting for a while. She's sleeping over there, but the anesthesia should wear off soon."

Karelia grabbed a chair and sat by Lexie, "How you doin'?"

Aidan

Karelia headed back into town leaving Aidan with owner of the charred fridge. He looked at the madman who was babbling something about lasers and motion sensors now.

"Hi," he nodded, "I'm Aidan, I see you've met Karelia." He paused wandering how to phrase the next bit, he'd seen someone stretchered off and given the reaction of the security force it wasn't one of them, "Did you know the... casualty?"

He took a seat on the burnt refrigerator and picked up the spirit Karelia had used on Lexie's wound. There were some dregs left anyway.

Sam

"Sam! Look out!"

As soon as he heard the cry Sam glanced over from his perch on one of the fridge thing's tyres, just in time to see the grenade bounce onto the vehicle. Without thinking, Sam threw himself flat as a wave of heat and whickering shrapnel tore through the air above him.

For a moment he lay on the floor, stunned by the noise and force of the blast, before he stumbled to his feet, ears ringing. He watched with a vague interest as a man began to yell at a crowd of onlookers, waving a rifle about. After a moment, the newest member of his company, Linda, calmed him down and Aiden led him over to the wreckage of the vehicle.

Sam smacked his head to clear the noise and stumbled over to Aiden, trying to avoid falling over.

"What just happened?" he asked dazedly.

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan shrugged.
"Who? Oh, you mean lady Lexie. Yeah, I know her. In fact, we were travelling together. Till this happened." He answered, just as they were joined by the blonde man from earlier.
"Were is the keyword. Seeing how things have turned out, I'll just stay out of her way and hope she stays out of mine. It would be much safer if she just stayed behind those walls now. Out here, she'll only get shot at again." He continued, bending down to stop the still spinning wheel.

"Bloody hell, and I'd fixed the engine this morning! What do they think, that lawnmowers grow on trees? So anyway, if you want to meet her, she'll be in the local equivalent of a hospital by now."

Aidan

Sam staggered over and asked Aidan what happened.

"We beat the raiders and the damned locals attacked us. One of their militia threw a grenade at Karelia. God knows what she said to provoke that. If I were you I'd find us a job sharpish and get out of this hole before I blow up their barracks." He drained the dregs from the bottle and threw it across the battle-zone, "No one was hurt, but at least we know not to buy their grenades."

He turned back to Jonathan. The man was clearly insane but there was something about him which Aidan found interesting, or at least refreshingly entertaining. He didn't seem overly concerned about the woman he was travelling with but Aidan didn't want to push it. Instead he said, "What's the story with the fridge anyway? And as far as engine go... well I'm short of caps and booze, and I need some more gear. Those raiders must have come from somewhere and that leaves one seriously undermanned camp nearby..." He shot a questioning look at Sam, "Easy money?"

Jonathan Guntherson

"Ah, that is a very interesting tale of heroism and great battles for the future of all mankind...not. The truth is, I was once hopping around an old junkyard looking for neat stuff when it started to hail. Hail as if a mother of all north poles came falling out of the sky. I swear, pebbles bigger than my thumb!" Jonathan said when asked about his refrigerator, sticking up a thumb for emphasis.

"Now naturally, I needed a place to hide and behold, FRIGERIZER Z appeared before me right at that moment! I must say I've never slept inside a refrigerator before, but it is quite comfy....except I had to force the lock next morning because they're not designed to be opened from the inside. Err...one thing led to another. I didn't want to leave behind such a good hiding place and it's a bit too heavy to just drag around...So I gave it some wheels! And a fan! And...all the other things that got trashed!" He finished, kicking the dust in frustration.

"Hah, if you guys are going to give those raiders some of their own medicine, I'm in. And if they don't have any good parts for me to use, I'm going to sue them into next friday!"
