QUOTE(treydog @ Apr 7 2010, 09:23 PM) I could not find a listing of forum ranks- I know it is similar to the (old) "star system" from the Other Place.
I have 3 Daedric "O's" and 1000+ posts. Finder is a Blades rank in Morrowind. Mouth is a Telvanni rank....
Probably the easiest way to "test" the auto-censor is to use the Preview post option and do a read-through. Kind of a pain... But the auto-censor leads to some rather humorous results- for example, hamster cave, cat-juggling, etc.
I noticed one word comes out "boat", and another comes out "honored user" I don't see them since they are words, and don't know something has been changed. I would prefer to have it do that [censored] thing because that is more visible when I am proofing it, but if I can't that is fine. This post has been edited by mALX: Apr 8 2010, 02:35 AM

QUOTE(Olen @ Apr 8 2010, 06:47 AM) Yes, it's not random: honoured user always replaces child of unmarried couple, I've got to the stage where I just read the word which was meant. I've never come across cat-juggling, I'll have to go and have a play with the preview box...
British boat is another favourite. The best way is the do a ctrl+f wordsearch before posting then type any rude words you know you're likely to have used.
As far as ranks go you could try looking at the memberlists. AFAIK invision boards allow you to sort members by total posts then flick though to see where the changes are. It's related to post number though.
EDIT: just had a play, some of those are brilliant. Umbrella seller was a bit confusing but most are quite funny. Some are words I didn't realise were rude, still haven't found anything about cats though.
British boat was the first one I ever found, lol. Oh, that is a really good idea, I will try that - Thank you! @ Dantrag - Thank you so much, I hope so, lol. I have bad eyesight anyway, so when I have been proofing them they slip by unnoticed usually, lol.

Good ideas, Olen. Now that I think on it, the use of "cat-juggling" as a swear may have been a forum-specific usage, rather than a function of the auto-censor. But using the search function and/or simply creating and previewing a post composed of "questionable" words to find out what gets replaced are very useful. (And you can always cancel the "rude" post afterwards.)

As to the word filter, we have a list of things and what they're replaced with, but it's only in the super secret mod section So I'd suggest taking Treydog's advice, if you'd like to test for them, use the preview post option. And for a little ES forum history, Cat juggling is not something we use in our forum censor but something used on the official ES forums back in the day when they didn't have the generic [censored] (or something like that which they use now). They had a great deal of fun replacements for swear words where cat juggling was just one of them.

I remember a thread in that other place where some guy wrote "My cat-juggling cat jumped over my cat-juggling head". Try saying that fast 10 times.

QUOTE(minque @ Apr 17 2010, 10:05 AM) QUOTE(mALX @ Apr 16 2010, 09:02 PM) I have found it only does it randomly, which is weird. Really, I doubt there are any minors on this site anyway, are there?
There are some quite young ones, but they behave so mature, you can't tell who's young or who's not! Lol, it really surprised me to find out that some of the really top critics and authors of fanfics over at the other site were under fifteen - I was pretty shocked, by their writing and knowledge in the critiques I thought they were at least in college!

I think Evoker is fifty posts, since I just noticed my change in rank and this is my 55:th post. Then Agent might be a hundred..?

My first shock was when I found out Darkom's age. After that there were a few more that stunned me - then I just had to realize that we are on the brink of a new BOOM, a new generation that will take what they see in front of them and make something better from it that will change the course of the future. Someone that can create genius from nothing, someone who can make your jaw drop with words or lyrics. With the creativity and intelligence of todays up and coming - we are ripe for another BOOM - and I hope to see it, because the last (at least) two decades have been sadly lacking any innovative ideas. Movies: For almost two decades they have brought back remakes of classic movies (IE: True Grit being redone, etc.) - but nothing new that will change the course of movies in the future - like these movies from the past did: EX: Peter Benchley - the original Jaws; like Star Wars; like the person who thought up the idea of getting dinosaur DNA from mosquitos fossilized in amber and cloning it as a premise for a series of movies...like AI, or the Boys From Brazil. Music: The first person to bring Rock and Roll sound to the public, changing the music we listen to forever - like Pink Floyd who created a sound no one could immitate and it is still avidly listened to decades later. Inventions: People that really invented things (NOT the snuggie) - like Eli Whitney - the Cotton Gin, like Otis - the elevator - something new that leaves the world standing around in AWE thinking, "why didn't I think of that?" I hate to use him as an example, but ... like Bill Gates. Heroes: A true hero - Not a celebrity idol that can't keep off drugs but think their "position" means their opinions are golden pearls. A hero like Jessica Lynch. The media grabbed Jessica Lynch's story like a pack of hungry wolves - then didn't think it was powerful enough in itself, so they ad libbed some extra stuff onto it - stuff that she fully denied as soon as she was capable of speaking. The story she told was truth, and horror enough on its own - but the media didn't think it would attract readers, so they dumped her like a hot potato for telling the truth. True heroes are forgotten in the media's rush to get a bigger story and more readers or listeners. This post has been edited by mALX: Jan 7 2011, 09:37 PM
