Wow, Red Dance is such a fabulous action shot!

Oh I agree on the black robe – I’ve never seen a squishy robed mage with a shield. Especially noticeable when he’s carrying one of your mod-added bright and colorful Viking ones!

Eeep! Morigu’s got a blade and she knows how to use it. ohmy.gif

Did I really count eight arrows sticking through the guy who still needed the attentions of Mehrune's Razor? It never seem to need that many to kill the player. ohmy.gif There's also the annoyance that enemies appear to be able to shoot through their allies without harming them. And don't get me going on mages' infinite reserves!

One thing Bethesda did do well in Skyrim was to make combat produce good-looking screenshots, even if it does feel fake at the time. "Now everyone pose for the kill camera, please." Of course, some characters pose better than others, and you do consistently produce those.

Red Dance has to go in the Rosa action shot Hall of Fame. What an awesome picture!

I’ve seen a shield mage encounter before but unlike your guy he had a boring shield. I have to agree that it’s odd looking. Jerric wears a college robe with shield on the road in his PS3 game, but he wears armored boots and gauntlets with it. He does that for comfort and because we went overboard with Smithing and Heavy Armor perks. I doubt that’s what the hostile Altmer was thinking!

And now the Old Hroldan Inn belongs to the skeevers. I thought those were arrows at first, but I think it’s flying blood. That is a particularly vicious and great looking stab! biggrin.gif

Acadian: That viking shield is actually the steel shield. I just changed the mesh and texture. But the stats, leveled lists it is used in, and so on are all vanilla. That is what was weirdest about seeing that mage with it. I suppose he might have picked it up from a dead body. But I don't think there were any around where he attacked me.

ghastley: Those are blood spatters around the guy being stabbed with Mehrunes Razor. Though I have had to put dozens of arrows into some people before killing them!

It isn't as easy for me to get good pics as it might look. For every one I post up here, there are usually almost ten I delete.

Grits: It sounds like Jerric's outfit is the same as the Vigilants! They wear college robes and heavy armor boots and gauntlets too!

That murder was indeed in the Old Hroldan Inn. The inkeeper bragged about the Tiber Septim room. Which in retrospect was a poor thing to say to even a forsworn Forsworn like Morigu.

Just a few pics this time. I have been playing Baldur's Gate 1: Enhanced Edition these days. The isometric view and 2d sprites do not lend themselves to very good screenshots.

My first character Terra

My second character Scáthach (You can tell she's evil, look at her outfit! laugh.gif)

A fairly long vid of Scáthach's team in action. This was a particularly tough fight. It is a little dark, but I tried to lighten it. It can also be a little hard to see, as things are all so small. That unfortunately is just a byproduct of it being an old game, with a low resolution. I have it cranked up to as high a resolution as possible, but it is still nowhere near the 1920 X 1080 you get in modern games. Still, it gives you an idea of what the gameplay is like. Though you cannot see the mouse for some reason.

Wow those are some awesome action shots! Red dance is an instant favorite!

I don't think I have ever seen NPC mages with shields before either.

I wonder if I should try Aravi with dual daggers? The only thing I would need to do is replace that slow dual power attack with a faster animation.

Scáthach is a hottie! I don't care that she's evil. biggrin.gif And I have no idea what any of those stats mean.

I'll have to check on the video at another time.

Oh, I remember that cute little Terra elf portrait. Scathach looks much more dangerous however.

I smiled all the way through the vid! Yup, that’s Baldur’s Gate, in all its ‘turn-based’ glory. I actually enjoyed the ‘pausing and issuing orders every few seconds’ style the game encouraged because it favored the reflective thinker instead of the fast clicker. wink.gif

BGI looks almost like an RTS.

“You’re a queer fellow!” biggrin.gif

You are right though, it is kind of hard to see what’s going on.

King Coin: There is mod that replaces the dual-dagger power attack with a faster version. I used it with Eris. I found that a Bound Dagger worked perfectly with another, earthly (Nirnly?) blade. You hotkey the regular dagger, and it automatically draws into your right hand. When you hotkey the Bound Dagger spell, it automatically goes into your left hand, and if I recall it summons there. So it is really easy to manage. I was using a mod for the Bound Dagger, but now they have a vanilla version of it somewhere in Solstheim. I think the Dunmer sorcerer in Tel Mithryn or his apprentice sell it.

Mehrunes Razor (again modded to be more useful) and a Bound Dagger were all kinds of awesome for Eris. I combined that with some heavy stealth. She would sneak attack and kill most folks with one shot. She was Riddick, but better looking. Well, slightly.

Count yourself lucky that you never played Dungeons and Dragons, otherwise you would know more about Armor Classes and Saving Throws, and Thaco than you would like!

Acadian: Scathath was a lot of fun to play. But I can only play an evil character for so long, and eventually it wore on me.

Baldur's Gate has been a lot of fun, and a walk down memory lane. The gameplay is so much like that of the early Fallout Games and Diablo, that it takes me back to those days. I like those games for the same reason you did. They were more about tactics and thinking than having a quick mouse finger.

I rolled another toon for Baldur's Gate, a Drow Fighter/Cleric named Tuonetar

I decided to import Tuonetar into Skyrim. Naturally I am looking over what she will wear.

Tuonetar in Witchplate Armor

Eisen Platte Black

Nightengale

The purple retex of the Triss Outfit has a lock on her town clothes

Toon-Eater! biggrin.gif

A fighter/cleric should be fun. Hmm, let’s see about her duds. . .

Witchplate looks pretty good. I like that the top looks sort of like vanilla steel.
The Eisen stuff will always say Chevalier d'Eon to me. happy.gif
Nightingale seems a bit. . . shapeless. Having a cape is always nice though.
The Purple Triss looks very nice (of course).

If she’s a fighter/cleric, would she look good borrowing the style of the Vigilantes of Stendaar? You know, mantled robes with armored boots and gauntlets? And maybe a mace? What about ranged attacks – magic or maybe a crossbow?

Oh my gosh, I love Tuonetar’s look! The Witchplate is my favorite for her. The steel looks awesome with her skin tone, and I’ve always admired the Witchplate on elven women. In my games some of the Vigilant chicks wear it, so it looks especially nice to me for a fighter/cleric.

Wow, the purple Triss is perfect with her coloring. She looks fabulous!

Acadian: She might eat some toons just yet! I know that Tuonetar is a necromancer (it's all in the name after all). I even worked on my Undead Summoning mod today to add a whole slew of new Conjured Skeletons like we had back in Oblivion. I am not sure about who/what she worships though. One of the Daedra for certain, but I am not sure which one. Maybe the Three Reclamations? That would be in line with current events in Morrowind.

I have not seen a morningstar or flail, so I am going with a mace for Tuonetar. Though I suppose I could look through the Nexus for the other two. She will use lightning for ranged attacks. But mainly she will be a conjurer. She might eschew Destruction altogether and instead conjure a Skeleton Archer for all her ranged needs.

I might also make the Vigilants hostile to her, like I originally did with Persephone. Tuonetar is a necrowomancer after all.

Grits: The Witchplate was my favorite as well. The glowy runes are the big selling point.

I have Tuonetar mostly settled, and have even officially moved her into the gameworld at the border between Riften and Morrowind. I only have one thing left to decide: hair color. The BG version of Tuonetar has white hair. So I modded that color into the Dunmer, and took a few pics to compare.

Black Hair

White Hair

I find that for once I am actually leaning toward the black hair. It gives her a darker, more mysterious look. The White hair makes her seems younger, almost Cyndi Lauperish.

I, too, am leaning toward the black hair myself. Sometimes white hair makes one look older, other times it just makes one look like one is trying too hard (to be grown up).

I looked up Tuonetar's name and, as usual, you have picked an appropriate name for her. Given that, I looked at her hair.

I like the style - it looks like a high ponytail. However, in white it seems to imply more 'goodness' than you intend for rather a dark character. As such, I think it works much better in black. That is, both the style and color work well for her in black. If you're dead set on white, then you might consider a less 'girlie' and more severe style. Just my two septims. smile.gif

Tuonetar took her first steps into Skyrim, and was promptly greeted by an Argonian.

Tuonetar summons a ranged weapon

She made it to Riften as the sun began to set

Tuonetar meets and greets the local Dunmer

Welcome to SkyToon! tongue.gif

I see she can summon Slim. I presume that with experience she will graduate to Bones, then perhaps to the Darryl brothers?

Cool idea for a ranged weapon!

She looks great in her purple-hued Triss outfit. happy.gif

Aww, extending a hand to a fellow elf.

I gather you’re playing Tuonetar in both BG and Skyrim now? Sounds like fun, and I like how you’ve enabled her to summon undead instead of just reanimating things (which is also neat). I can trace Buffy back to Diablo II, then through BG II, a brief but unhappy expedition into Dragon Age Origins (no-melee archer = Epic Fail), Oblivion and now Skyrim.

I worked up a bunch of new summoned skellies for Tuonetar to play with. I started with the new Skeleton Archer and Skeleton Guardians you saw in that last bunch of pics. I was inspired by Oblivion, and also created a Skeleton Hero packing a battle axe, and finally a Skeleton Champion who has a greatsword, and can summon a Skeleton Guardian.

I tried making a version of Dunmer Skeleton that would use elven weapons and bonemold shields, but they just won't equip the shields. They have them in their inventory. I used a cheat code that lets you look in any NPCs inventory to verify the bonemold shields are there. But they just won't use them. The same with elven shields. It is too bad, because I was thinking that Tuonetar would be summoning the spirits of her ancestors. But I don't think they used ancient Nordic weapons and current Nordic shields!

I was going to use the Tribunal Robes I found in the Dragonborn dlc. There are a couple of Dunmer priests in Raven Rock that wear them. But after my failure at making Dunmer skeletons was epic, I decided that Tuonetar was instead a rogue cleric. She's been driven out of Morrowind for the crime of necromancy, one step ahead of the Ordinators (or whoever hunts down heretics and evildoers now). So now it also makes more sense that she's summoning human skeletons of dead Nords to serve her, rather than her ancestors.

Only one pic this time, as I have been mostly playing BG1EE.

Neera rips loose with a Color Spray

I love Tuonetar’s new skellies! It’s great to have a ranged attack option with the classic summoned bones look. Do you think you might make an update for your Undead Summoning mod? hehe.gif

A rogue cleric on the run, excellent! How funny that the first person to “greet” her in Skyrim was a hostile Argonian. Nice touch of racial tension.

Tuonetar looks great in her city outfit. It has that non-Skyrim flair that works well for a Morrowind native. Fabulous ponytail! Love it!

That color spray looks really neat. I think I would enjoy the pace of the BG games.

Acadian: Even for an old game, the Enhanced Editions are looking really good. I am so glad I bought them.

Grits: I do plan on releasing the Skeleton Array in a new version of Undead Summoning. But I want to spend some time play-testing all of the new Skellies before I upload it. Would you like to be a playtester?

I thought it was hilarious that the very first person she saw in Skyim was an Argonian! Talk about irony. Tuonetar didn't need an prompting to kill that guy!

The BG Enhanced Editions have been a lot of fun. It plays a lot like Fallout 1 &2, and Fallout Tactics. It is basically a turn-based game, even though you do not see it stop for each turn. It all just flows seamlessly unless you pause, which I do a lot. They are definitely a lot less hectic in pace than Skyrim. They have been well worth the money I spent on them.

Persephone was long overdue for some R&R, so she played the front nine at Skeleton Coast

A birdie on the first hole!
