It seems like the author's trying to drag things out a little, one of the characters has had a pretty major personality shift for no apparent reason. She's gone from conquering queen with an army to meek little girl desperately clinging to the idea that marriage will save her people. On top of that she's abandoned everything that's been important to her for the last two books.
