Why set a Mechwarrior game before the Clan Invasion? It's basically writing out a huge chunk of the universe, drastically reducing the scale, and making the mechs worse.

has been the banner mech for your series for over 20yrs, you'd think you would want to put it and it's awesome Clan brethren in the game.

But they may be trying to reboot the series. MW5 is set from 3015 to just before the Clan invasion in 3049. If this game is successful, then we will probably see a new generation of Mechwarrior games that will reintroduce the Clans. Khajiit would pee his pants if they made a new MW game set during Clan Jade Falcon and Clan Wolf's Trial of Refusal!

Perhaps, but getting rid of the Clans? I mean, they're the cooler half of the Mechwarrior universe, and their invasion is pretty much the defining conflict of that universe. Can you even think of a bigger way to potentially piss off the entire fanbase at once? They're either playing it safe to an insane degree by creating a prequel that won't interfere with anything, or they're going balls-to-the-wall on a risky reboot.

It looks like they are basically remaking the original MechWarrior game (it was set late in the Inner Sphere's Third Succession War), just with an expanded timeline.

This one agrees that the Clans are way more interesting than the Inner Sphere and leaving them out may be a mistake, but if it leads to a resurgence of the MechWarrior series then Khajiit will give MW5 a chance! Imagine: a new generation of gamers being introduced to the epic struggle between the Clans and the Inner Sphere! It would be glorious!
