Hurricane / typhoon is a north / south hemisphere thing. They rotate in opposite directions.
Tidal waves are generated in shallow water and result from gravitational interfaces involving sun/moon/tides. Tsunami's are generated by physical disturbances - usually underwater earthquakes. Oops, I was wrong. It seems Hurricanes are northern hemisphere. Typhoons are the same but the name is used in the northwest pacific. I should have recalled that, as I remember 'typhoon parties when stationed in asia.
