QUOTE(Winter Wolf @ Nov 11 2015, 05:16 PM) mALX and Mirocu- I do agree with both of you. Elder Scrolls certainly does have a better option to role play a character. It is possible to choose a Shadowscale Argonian and just do the Dark Brotherhood while ignoring the rest of the quest lines. Unfortunately Bethesda have only ever trotted out the same 4 quest lines (DB, TG, MG. FG) and have done very little to expand upon that over the years.
I do not see working for the Daedra as a proper questline anyway. How many followers would work for every Daedric Lord? How big would the quests be if you only did one? And why was there no pit fighting in Skyrim? Or a fishing industry that a player could operate and run?
I have played Fallout 4 for close to 10 hours now and have seen very little example of role play at all. The character is very controlled and only has the occasional sarcastic comment he-she can use during dialogue. There is no option at all to play a scoundrel or evil character. There are cooking stations in the game and house building but nothing on the quest line so far.
Really not sure how it could work in Fallout realms; unless you changed out fishing for Mirelurk hunting - but I LOVE the sound of that fishing village and working there, and in fact that was part of my roleplay in both Oblivion and Skyrim. I made a fishing pole mod and fishing village for Oblivion. The pole was a regular fishing pole but it said rude things to the player while they fished and had real fishing sounds when it did fish. Here is my fishing village in Oblivion's Black Marsh: http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...creenShot15.jpgAnd my fishing business in Skyrim: http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps1628808f.jpghttp://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zpsfed7df3b.jpghttp://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zpsd071e8c8.jpghttp://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps1e53de93.pnghttp://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps55751d96.png(which that fishing village is an extension of this Inn I made near the Half Moon Mill): http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps3e76da77.jpgThere are fish respawn points all around the dock for fishing; NPC fishing idle points; and the fish on the stands and tables respawn. The Player can bring the fish to the Inn and sell them to the Restaurant there. * On the Daedric Lords, in my roleplay and I think Acadian's too - we did all the Daedric Lords as an extended study/research into Daedric magic and power via the Arcane University and the Mages Guild; so it fit right into our roleplay to do them all; and explained some of our trips into Oblivion realms as well. I also wished there were some form of Arena fighting in Skyrim. I love getting in Bethesda games and just exploring; clearing dungeons; and crafting. I love doing the random and misc quests; etc. If the main questline is good, I don't mind doing it - but in my own time, not being pushed through it or to it. In Fallout 4; 85% of the vids are showing people ending up in the main quest/Minutemen quest and following through - it just confirmed to me how pushy they were about getting the player into it. I was really wondering if there was a way to go in the opposite direction and steer clear of that; so I kept looking for gameplay vids in hopes of seeing someone do just that - and I finally found one! I found one vid where the guy did exactly what I would if I was playing it: explore; look for the rare and powerful weapons and armor; do crafting to improve my own armor to the highest capable; maybe set up a settlement. He had 40 hours in, and had done almost no quests; and was having a blast with the game doing that. To me, his vid was the foremost selling factor I have found for buying FO4; because until I saw his vid I was getting further and further away from wanting to buy it. What this man said is that setting up settlements is about the only way he found so far to earn the kind of money that he was used to earning in FO3; FO:NV. In the same amount of time and levels he had found every place on the map and had some very powerful weapons and armor. He had several settlements built up and was earning money through them. So I'm still going to wait to buy until the Geck is released; but at least I'm a little bit excited about it now.

I love it when Americans are asleep. I have got the place to myself. Lol. Even the steam data shows a dip when Americans and Europeans disappear. Steam** Okay, I have played around with the settlement building. I feel that it will be really successful with the console users as they have never had house buildings before. Others (....cough....cough.....SubRosa and mALX) will probably expect a more high quality finished to their homes. The reason I say this is that all the sheeting and timber you use makes the home look like a Mad Max ramshackle apartment. Very cool as it does fit in with the whole concept, but not quite the polished finish that modders do. It needs some solid concrete walls but I cannot seem to find that where I am building. Perhaps it is elsewhere? Or maybe you can only use steel and timber. You have several options. Completely scrap a building and start from the original house foundation, slam down a prefab anywhere you like within the zone (even the middle of the street) or number three- do what I did and spot an empty spot on the top of somebody's garage. Ahh, I said, that is where I will go. Up the stairs went to hook up with the level and a man cave was soon built. The system works quite well. Roof tiles just snap into the side walls and everything just comes together. Placing items is really easy (unlike past Beth games) and you can use shelves and tables to show items off. I want to hook up some lighting but I need to find some parts for the generator and cables. Lol. This post has been edited by Winter Wolf: Nov 12 2015, 12:07 PM

QUOTE(Winter Wolf @ Nov 11 2015, 10:22 PM) Thanks for those links. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Alix again. Ahh, nobody could weave a story like you could back in those old Beth forum days. That fishing looks awesome and is exactly the sort of thing the Beth should head down. Yes, have the factions quests, but also put some appropriate quests that suit each particular game world.
The Daedric investigation makes good role play and that is something like what Beth should have done. But make it so that each Daedric Lord is not happy that you are investigating each one and get the character to play one Lord off the other. Things like bringing one artifact into another realm is a big no no.
**
The Fallout 4 map certainly does feel smaller than Fallout 3 but it is still much bigger than Point Lookout. I have not journeyed far across the map but my guess would be about 70-75% the size of number 3.
I am glad mALX, that you are feeling better about the game now. It is a really, really good game. Please take that from me. I would not say that if it wasn't true. But I would not buy the game on PC until the modders have fixed the UI and all the other console crap Beth ported. Ha!
The game world and combat is awesome fun. There is heaps more gore outside of VATS with ghoul body parts falling off as you shoot them. It is great! And Dogmeat rocks the show, pulling down ghouls to the ground by their clothing and helping you win the 'good fight.'
Just stay away from the rushed story.
Fishing, etc = I loved the idea of my character having a job; I mean, it doesn't get more real than having to work every day and the adventures you find are brought about in the course of your work day. In Oblivion, Maxical's "Job" was working at the Arena as a combatant; but when she left the Arena she started fishing/selling Slaughterfish scales to alchemists and their meat to restaurants: *baked slaughterfish on rice: http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zpse62178f4.jpgShe also ran an illegal Still making "Kvatch Kickapoo" moonshine that she sold: http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps77e06c4f.jpg In Skyrim - (I absolutely LOVED all that blacksmith crafting stuff!), she "worked" for the Whiterun Smithy. Her "Job" was to hunt for pelts and mine ore; bring it back to the Smithy and smelt the ore down/tan the pelts/make weapons and armor/improve them/enchant them. Adrienne paid her for finished products and sold them in the store for a profit. Anyway, that was Maxical's "job" in Skyrim. I built the fishery and Inn for Misa, that is where she worked till I stopped playing. It really did change my thinking about Fallout 4 to see that one vid. I didn't even get all the way through it; it was so long. But saw enough to know he was playing my way and having the kind of fun I was looking for in a game. My son is wanting to get it, if he does I will sneak into his room and play it while he is at school, QUOTE(Winter Wolf @ Nov 12 2015, 06:30 AM) GAAAAAH! what game is in the last screen? QUOTE(SubRosa @ Nov 10 2015, 04:07 PM) QUOTE(mALX @ Nov 10 2015, 03:48 PM) Okay, the pretty girl is at 1:25. THAT is what I'd like to look like, lol. Where are these mods, can you link me up?
Fallout 4 NexusOh, I feel so dumb - Nexus, I know how to find mods on Nexus! I'm sorry. I must have been having a really bad day to ask you that, lol. I apologize, and thank you so much for the link! I did find one really good one of both the male and female, and I believe it was the female the person was playing. Thank you so much, SubRosa. QUOTE(SubRosa @ Nov 11 2015, 02:29 PM) QUOTE(Lopov @ Nov 11 2015, 06:34 AM) I'm glad that most of you are enjoying the game but I'm surprised that Beth went so far and included actual voice lines for something as simple as picking locks. My laptop can't run FO4 but even if it did, I'd definitely wait for some modder to remove the forced voice. I just think it's not fair that they impose such limitations on our characters, my character Blondie from New Vegas would definitely swear if she couldn't pick some lock and I doubt they included appropriate voice lines. I think I already saw one voice mod on the Nexus yesterday. I am sure more will follow. Certainly one to remove the player voice. That is not hard at all. Just record a second of silence, and use that to replace every player voice file. As far as the game knows its playing the voice. But you never hear it. And here it is already, uploaded day one.WOO HOO! Most def will be wanting this one, Thanks SubRosa!

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Nov 11 2015, 02:29 PM) Animated hair is cool. Other games have had it for a while. So it is nice to see that. Do things like cloaks/long coats animate and wave around too?
Yep. Jenna found a raggedy coat that waves around a little when she walks. Here’s something to consider. The headbob in first person makes me sick very quickly. I play mostly in third person but like to look closely at stuff in first. I am amazed that this idiotic gimmick is even included and disgusted that it can’t be disabled. ADDED: The 1,000 names that Codsworth can say are for the character’s name, not the baby’s. For example if you name your character Steve, Codsworth will call you Mr. Steve. If he doesn’t know the name he will call you sir or ma’am. Fun tip from a video, not confirmed by me: This post has been edited by Grits: Nov 12 2015, 07:02 PM

Yep. Jenna found a raggedy coat that waves around a little when she walks. Very neat. Staring at the stiff-as-a-board cloaks and capes in Skyrim and Oblivion make me seriously question Persephone's washing habits (which apparently must be non-existent!) I am not surprised it is there. It has been a standard in FPS games for decades. But I am stunned that you cannot turn it off. People getting sick because of it has been well-known for just as long! FTFY Most games that I like let you play on past the completion of the main objective. Even if it's just revisiting the places you already went to see if you missed any loot. TR does have a habit of destroying the places so you couldn't go back if you wanted to.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 12 2015, 10:58 PM) I finished Bioshock within a month. Well within a month actually, and I do include the time it took to order, recieve and install it ** And with the Fat Man. I guess it just comes down to the amount of weapons and the upgrading this game has. I really would like to enjoy them first. In hindsight it probably would have been okay. I forgot to check if it had any nukes anyway. Lol. ghastley- Yes. TR does have the habit of blocking us off (using destroyed corridors and slides). At least in the new reboot they have fast travel camps that allow us to revisit locations. And Lara does like blowing things up. This post has been edited by Winter Wolf: Nov 12 2015, 11:26 PM
