QUOTE(mirocu @ May 1 2025, 12:58 PM) Regarding pizza - is Detroit style the way to go? Didn't even know that was a thing.
Yeah I heard about it for the first time a few years when Pizza Hut started offering one. I’ve never tried one, but I’m sure it’s probably not that much different from a Chicago style deep dish. I think Subbie is from up there, maybe she could enlighten us?

QUOTE(SubRosa @ May 1 2025, 03:35 PM) Detroit style is the best pizza in the world. Though Chicago style is pretty good too.
It's a deep dish, with a thick layer of sauce. Round or square, the crust is not the usual thick lump you see around the edge of the pizza. Instead it is a blade-thin and very crispy. It is the best part of the pizza. (Some people say it is only square, but I've had it round too). It will look blackened and burnt, but that is good. It tastes awesome. The cheese goes right up to the edge, so there's no empty gap of just bread anywhere on the pizza. Some places put an extra layer of sauce on top of the cheese and toppings, some don't. I have not really noticed it tasting different either way.
I like a lot of sauce on my pizza so I would probably like that a lot!

I ran one day short of having enough breakfast bacon. My original thought was to eat the last of it for breakfast this morning and then make my weekly grocery run, one day early. Then last night, trying to decide what to have for today's lunch, I noticed a packet of two chicken pieces that had been in the freezer for over a month. I decided to have those for this morning's breakfast, thus negating the need for an off-schedule trip into town.
Cooked 'em on my indoor grill. They turned out absolutely yummy, for chicken. I thought they might be too much to consume at one meal, but scarfed 'em down without issue. (I also had my standard three eggs scrambled.)
Last night's (Saturday) lunch was two half-pound ground lamb patties (with salt and pork rind crumbles blended in) along with three scrambled eggs. So much tastier than the ground beef I normally use! Healthier too, at least compared to the bottom-of-the-barrel ground beef I can afford to buy. Lamb costs more per pound, but not enough so to break the bank.
My experience grilling pork steaks is iffy. The grill's auto-sensor often undercooks them, which I don't like. When it gets it right, those steaks are hard to beat. Plus, the runoff juice makes my eggs extra yummy.

QUOTE(Grits @ May 11 2025, 02:33 PM) I'm drinking yesterday's coffee out of an empty seltzer can so that I don't have to get up and disturb the dog. Lucky I had this can on my desk. Otherwise it'd be straight out of the carafe.
Goodness!! Lol

<sighs> I've got to get serious about ridding myself of my one remaining food addiction, milk. While within the carnivore universe, being an animal byproduct, it's loaded with sugar (compared to other carnivore foods). It's going to be a struggle, being a lifelong favorite. Sad thing is, I came close to weaning myself off it before becoming seriously ill late this January. During much of my illness, I was unable to eat more than a few bites of food during meals, but found I could drink milk without problem. As you might imagine, I drank a lot of milk. By the time I was able to eat "normally" again, I was so used to milk that I drank it mindlessly throughout the day. Enough is enough, theoretically. We shall see how it goes.
