It was definitely different when coming from SNES or Genesis, but I don’t remember the learning curve being to bad. For most games you held it with the middle grip in your left hand and the right grip in your right. The only other configuration I ever used was holding it by the left and right grips while playing Mortal Kombat Trilogy. This let you use the direction pad instead of the stick. Thinking back on it I’m not sure why I thought this was the optimal way to play MKT or if that was how the game’s controls were by default.
