Over-there Premiere, TV show on FX Options

Okay so Last Night on FX they premiered this show called Over-There. I thought it was good so I'll review it.

It's a pretty unbiased look at the situation in Iraq and the general mentality of soldiers in war. The first part of it (after they shipped off) they were dug in outside a Mosque where insurgeants were opening fire on them and they couldn't attack back yet because there was an Al jazeera News Crew inside and they had to wait for a General to decide how it would look. So basically every member of the squad had a different reason for joining up and it played into their personalities. It looks a lot like any war movie except it focuses more on the effects of war mentally. For example there was a scene where a guy shot a grenade off that hit a random enemy in the chest and blew off his torso. A pair of legs attached at the pelvus kept walking for a couple seconds before crumpling to the ground. You then see the expressions on the faces of key characters in the squad staring at this brutal scene.

So yeah, War in Iraq for some reason is a big topic here and this show is about that. I'm glad the show doesn't come with a political agenda but just shows a wide range of views.

Check it out Wednesday Nights at 10 on FX, if you get that channel.

Unbiased programs are my favorite. I hate getting propaganda from one party or another. It's outright annoying.

Sounds interesting. I hope it's as unbiased as you say. I agree with Dantrag, I hate propaganda, even from "my own" side. I think people should be allowed to make up their own mind rather than have their hand held by someone who thinks they know better. It equates to patronizing in my opinion.

Well from what I saw they seem to be trying to place the Iraq war in the early 90s. They are all using out of date stuff like M16s and semi old camo designs. Plus there would be no hesitation about wether to return fire on the Iraqi militia because a news channel was there. When soldiers get shot at their instinct is to shoot back. So there would be a fire fight going on in the show if it were real.

Other than the few things that I can point out very easily the show is... ok. But then again I haven't really been into military flicks since the 70s.

If they were under orders not to shot then they wouldn't shoot. My brother-in-law is in the Army and one of my best friends is in the Marines (he'll be going to Iraq in a month). Also, M-16's aren't out of date. They still have a few more years until the XM-8's are gonna be in service; and the camo isn't out, it's just Army. Navy and Marines are the only one's that have the digital camy's now.

Yes but there would be no orders not to shoot in the first place. The well being of soldies is top on the list and letting some militia keep popping rounds off at soldiers without them being able to return fire is almost unthinkable.

M-16s are not the weapon of choice in Iraq right now. They clog to easily making it harder to carry out mission in the citys. The XM-8s are very easy to clean and are very light. Though many unitsa still use them id say... about 60% of the forces here now don't use them on missions that will require some butt kicking.

The army has them, soem navy personel use them when they come on land(sea lovers ) and we Marines use them every day. Digital(if thats what you call them? I call them them blocks.) are used by about 80% of the armed forces.
