QUOTE(Dantrag @ Aug 10 2005, 05:12 PM)
Not entirely true. First person is easier in that you don't have to worry about other people's thoughts, only the protagonist's. And third person can be just as personal, with the added bonus of being more personal with more than one character. And third person is easier to write descriptive battle scenes in.

(I'm a huge fan of third person, if you didn't notice. laugh.gif )
*

Well, for me, 3rd person is easier in terms of, you do not have to talk and act like the character. In 1st person view, some characters are hard for me to portray in 1st person because their way of thinking (like, for example, a crazy person) is difficult or way too outlandish for me to really describe while keeping in-character. Besides, there are two kinds of 3rd person view, if I remember clearly.

Also, in my opinion, in 1st person, I seem to have a much harder time to organize the character's thoughts without rambling on and on about nothing. Not sure why though, but I prefer 3rd person.

Other writers can easily write in-character of different/difficult characters really, really well without sounding forced in 1st person. (I admire that kind of skill!)

To Neck' Thall: As you can tell, it's really a matter of taste and what you are comfortable with, really. smile.gif Hope you will update?

Yep - limited and omniscient.

limited is when the narrator doesn't know the thoughts of the characters, and omniscient does.

Although the start might be considered "generic," you show some skill at writing. You may want to create your own events in Seyda Neen to move away from the standard game script. That is harder, but also more rewarding- you are able to shape the world and the characters in a way that suits your style.

You really should try and set your own goals rather than just going by everything that happens in the game. Like your character wants something thats hard to find so he goes off to get it but finds out it's really hard to find and makes it his personal goal. Even if it's not quest related. It's pretty good though...don't get discouraged and keep writing.

Thx everyone but I've decided to continue with third person. tongue.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan walked into a blessedly empty yard that had a rain barrel that looked just about the right size to hide all of his new found loot. Apparently someone else had had the same idea and there was a very ugly ring with a green stone set in the band. Ryan pocketed the ring after stashing his loot. He then walked into the office of Sellus Gravius.

“Now listen lad, I don’t care what you have to say. Just give me your papers. This is unbelievable!!” he shouted after Ryan gave him his papers. “Three prisoners released in three months and sent to the same person!”

“What are you talking about?” Ryan asked.

“Just shut up and take this package to Casius Cosades in Balmora. Take this money too.” Gravius growled. “Now, get out of my sight.”

Bewildered, Ryan quickly obeyed, taking the package and the money before going to the yard to get his loot bag. Then he strode through Gravius’ office as if he belonged there, so as to provoke no suspicion on the sack. As soon as he stepped out to Scyda Neen a very short man, whose pointed ears and short stature practically screamed WOOD ELF, approached him and started complaining.

“I don’t get it! First I lose it when that guard does the “Shake Down Fargoth” ritual and I get it back from a nice Breton who passed through here about 2 months ago. Then I lose it after some one puts a note in my hiding spot that I need to get another. Who ever put that note in there also took my favorite lock pick So I kept it on me and lost I again.” said the already annoying little Bosmer “After that I am given it by an Imperial woman, and now I’ve lost it again! I wouldn’t be surprised if you had it ‘cuz they all came out through there and gave it to me.”

Remembering the ring from the barrel, Ryan brought it out and showed to the Bosmer, thinking As long as I’m stuck here I might as well make some friends.

“That’s it!!! I knew my hunch was right! You are my new best friend. I’ll even tell another friend of my about your kindness.” said Fargoth as he did a little happy dance. “I’ll make sure he give you a discount!! His name is Arrille and he runs the trade house up the street. Now where to hide it…”

Ryan walked towards the building the wood elf had pointed to before he started laughing out loud. Fargoth beat him to it and then rushed back out. When he passed Ryan his smile looked like it would break the confines of his mouth and skyrocket to the moon(s).

Ryan stepped into the trade house and was greeted by a tall yellow skinned elf that had to be an Altmer. The room was small and there where some stairs at the back of it. Up those stairs he could hear the laughter commonly associated to bars with drunken Nords in them (though Ryan had never been in one).

“Hello, you must be Ryan. Fargoth just gave you a wonderful account of your kindness. I know he’s a bit tedious at times but he really is a good fellow.” said the High elf with laughter in his eye. “Now, since you’re fresh off that boat, would you be needing something in the line of weapons or armor?”

“Actually I would like to sell a few things first” said Ryan as he brought out his sack.

Ryan and Arrille got down to haggling, which was make significantly easier by the fact that Arrille liked him. They eventually agreed on 200 septims, after Arrille gave him a full suit of this bone armor called chitin and two steel axes for Ryan to use. Ryan also bought the mortar and pestle that was on a shelf behind the Altmer. After he strapped on his new armor and snapped his new axes onto their places on his back, Ryan stepped outside of the trade house and into the rain.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thx for the pestle thing minque laugh.gif umm...i kinda of have an idea were he will go and what he will do but not exactly. WHat i do know is that he will rarely do any quests that are actualy in the game...

good.....Ryan has apparently accepted he´s in the game huh! Now then what will happen to a young boy from our world in the cruel, harsh world of Morrowind....?? how will he react to the things happening to him? I´m very curious I must say.....

Oh...ehh one typo, a rather funny one: it´s pestle...not pedestal.....just a very friendly remark..no offence..

I´ll give you a cake.gif

Hey- I think I know that "nice Breton." I really am enjoying your style with this- please keep going. By all means, depart from the "in-game" quests- as a matter of fact, being an observer of the "results" of other fan-fics is fun- at least as a part of your story.

Here's and Update
Also Konraddude wha do you mean Oblivion?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wonderful… thought Ryan as he stepped out of the brightly lit trade house and into the damp and muggy outdoors. This is a great way to start a new…whatever this is… What should I do now?

A female Altmer answered his question just after bouncing into him.

“Ohh, I am so sorry for knocking you down like that here let me help you up,” The tall woman said. “I say, are you another one fresh off the boats? We seem to get a lot of them these days. I would tell you to check the smugglers cave near the stilt strider port, but the arrivals that came before you already cleared it out three times. Although you may want to check out that rogue Ashlander camp that somehow got all the way down here. Its to the west of town, near the foyada.”

“What’s an Ashlander?” asked Ryan wondering if she was hired to just give newcomers something to do. “Are they another race that I haven’t heard about? And what’s a foyada?”

“Ashlanders are a Dunmer subculture from the east of Vvardenfal,” she said. “And foyadas are the paths the lava from the Red Mountain Carves out after it erupts. Now no more questions. Go take care of those Ashlanders so they won’t attack anyone in the area.”

How does she know this? Ryan wondered. Is she like a scout for the empire or just well informed? Regardless, I guess I should check this out.

Ryan began walking out of town to the west and noticed many mushrooms and plants that he somehow knew how to use. He began to harvest some mushrooms that he identifies as Violet Coprinicus and Luminous Russula. He also took some tree-growing fungus known as Bunglers Bane (which he put nowhere near his mouth) and Hypha Facia . After he collected all of the plants in the area he sat down on a rather large, brown boulder on the beach to rest.

Suddenly, the boulder angled up and a claw shot out of the underside and pinched his left leg. Ryan yelped and ripped his axes from their holsters and cleaved the claw off in one blow (which surprised him, because in his past life he hadn’t even seen an axe except in a computer game). The boulder reared up and tried to grab his other leg with another claw, but Ryan dodged it. He then hit the underside of the boulder with a powerful uppercut that flipped to boulder over and revealed that it was actually a giant crab!

This is strange…handling these axes feels completely natural... thought Ryan as he embedded the axe heads in the soft parts beneath the crab. It’s almost like they’re a part of me…

Now that the fight was over Ryan suddenly collapsed on his injured leg causing it even more damage. He did the first this that came to his mind and spoke words in a language he had no idea what was. He stared as the wound began to close and he could almost feel something flowing away from him and into the wound.

What was that? Ryan wondered. As soon as I said those strange words it felt as if something was leaving me, and then the wound just closed! It was like…Magic…
