QUOTE(Megil Tel-Zeke @ Aug 25 2005, 05:36 PM)
lol Red.  living in venezuela for the first 6 years of life, i quickly learnd about bird-eating spiders and what not, so it won't keep me from sleeping.

I must say despite fearing spiders, i do find them absolutely fascinating,  i just make sure they are in a glass jar filled with ethanol or other preservatives, before i will examine one.

jumping spiders though i don't mind at all, i love watching them up close.
also nothing beats sitting down somewhere and talking to someone or in a rom full of people, only to glance down and find a scorpion sitting about 2-3" from your hand.

i have had this happen to me once, we were at our second farm (in venezuela) and we had just arrived and i was setting down my stuff in my room.  well on the wall above my bed is a 2" scorpion just sitting there.  my dad tries to catch it, but it jumped of the wall onto the bed and dissapeared into a crack in the wall.

then i have seen it happen two other times to friends(i was living in panama at this time).  the first time was 6th grade year we were in homeroom,  well our homeroom was in a teachers office and she had these giant pillows for us to sit on.  well my friend jaime (spanish for james) took the corner pillow. so everything is normal right until about after 30 minutes when we see a small scorpion climb up the wall above jaime, so we tell him to move very slowly out of the way, and we all run out of the room.  the second time, we were in Pedasi at a hotel for a beach trip, and my friend mark was sitting on a bed, there were about 10 people hanging out in the room, when suddenly Mark begins screaming and jump up from the bed,as a scorpion was sitting idly about 1" from his hand.

Another incident that my sister told me about was when a scorpion actually fell off the wall and into the back of someone's shirt >.<

fun times eh.

off-topic: wow i'm like writing novels today. lol

Wow that's amazing, I would be terrified of any spider bigger then a daddy-longlegger kvright.gif

Actually, "Daddy long legs" aren't spiders or even Arachnids. They are insects due to the fact they have six legs.

Sorry to bring up this old topic, but I am bored and decided to update my list of fears.

QUOTE(Wurlon @ Aug 24 2005, 09:04 PM) *
I'm afraid of heights and deep deep water ( can't see what's down there!

I hear you on the deep water thing, in the newest Zelda game there is a part where you have to sink down this really really deep room filled with water. My heart was going about a mile a minute, also oceans in games terrify me... Dunno why, they just do.

The before mentioned "sleep paralisis" still scares the crap out of me, thankfully it happens less often now.

My strangest fear that I never really told anyone before now is perhaps the weirdest one I have ever heard...

I am afraid of people knowing certain things. Like a friend of mine whom I have liked for almost a year and a half, I am mortally afraid of her finding out how I feel, not just for fear of rejection, I am just terrified that she will find out.

Told you it was weird. kvright.gif

I loathe spiders, but am not an arachnophob. Those things are just so wrong, nothing to keep me awake at night, but I certainly don't want to have one crawling all over me.
As for fear of dark, ready my signature, pure blackness is better than low-light, because very few things can see you when you can't see them. emot-ninja1.gif

I used to be able of spiders, the dark, the possibility of dolls coming to life...

All irrational fears have been replaced by one very, very rational one: The Police.

Yes, The Police were a very intimidating 80's rock band. And now that guy calling himself 'Sting' running around....Im mortified myself.

@ Zelda: That's a very common fear. Its called the fear of vulnerability. Everyone has it.

Never heard of that fear, but no one else here seems to have it. Just about everyone I meet is open and trusting. Talk about being a black sheep huh?

Well some people do better with vulnerability than others. On a side note it might be that the reason no one else has admitted that fear is because then they would appear... vulnerable. I used to be like that, now when I like a girl I can't stand the thought of not telling her.

There are very basic and underlying fears that everyone has, that no amount of words can convince me they dont have.

Fear of the Unknown= Prejudice, anxiety in new surroundings, etc.

Fear of Pain= being rejected, being harmed physically, being vulnerable.

Fear of Death =If you live with a terminal disease every day for three years, maybe you can overcome this fear..but otherwise, I beleive we are all scared of at least these things.

To the retards that don't know what greys are off the top of their heads (most people don't really talk about greys compared to other more important topics)-

The aliens that some people believe abduct people to experiment on them, and ride around in UFOs. They have funky big heads and eyes. They're shorter than we are (like three feet tall) and have grey skin (hence their name). coolgrin.gif

Have you ever wondered what the cold reaches of space is like? The extreme nothingness that floats around us constantly? The same feeling you had when you were a child and bumps and noises kept you up? The dark cosmos that contain this speck of a planet, what is out there? Is there nothing? Are we a loophole? Was the planet supposed to be extinct because of the Black Plague? Think about it... Nothingness is what i am afraid of...

My new thoughts on the topic cause I saw it and I want to thought it up.

Having fear... is so un zen. Let me tell you a story to explain what I mean.

Last week I was in the dorms from which I was banned and have already received a criminal trespassing charge for being found in. I don't think there's anything wrong with me innocently seeing my lazy friends that refuse to go outside and see me. But unfortunately... it's still illegal because I got caught drinking too many times.

So an eye-witness, one of the student staff-members, saw me and reported me to the building supervisor. He came to the room in question and knocked on the door announcing, "Hall Staff!"

Now keep this in mind, were I caught one more time, I would have received a felony. I was absolutely terrified. I hid wedged behind a bed and a fridge trying to make myself as small as possible. The area supervisor was too short to see me since he wasn't allowed in the room, but he demaned they reveal me. Convinced I was in there, he demanded the occupants open one of the closets. They were pretty harshly refusing making him convinced I was in a closet, so finally when they opened it he was sort of just... stuck. It was funny.

Back to the topic, as I mentioned I used to have irrational fears but because the police were actually trying to ruin my good day, and nearly all authority figures I dealed with in the dorms were really out to get me, the became a real fear. There was a purpose behind fearing them, but fear is really just your senses getting wider and your body getting prepared for some action. Having a fear when there is presently nothing frightening is brooding about what might happen. It's natural to become afraid of high places or whatnot but it's unzen to let fear get in the way of your willingness to participate in life. Fear is just the feeling of becoming prepared to handle some real business.

When you get nervous around a girl you like, it's because your body knows something raw is possibly happening. Fear means your body wants you to talk to her, get het to know you.

So for me... it's not fear, it's excitement. Besides, you get like the best euphoria ever after you conquer a fear. It's like you just let some weight loose from your shoulders. Trust me, I used to be afraid of the bloody mary ghost story, so eventually I just had to hide myself in a dark closet with a mirror in it and just sit there until I was no longer afraid.

You make some good points. Too bad most of the things I am afraid of are not something I can get over easily, or really need to get over, otherwise I would take your advice.

Greatest fear? I suppose mine would probably be Spiders, especially those huge Chicken eating ones in the jungle. *Gulp*
I'm also pretty afraid of clowns, I've had bad experiences with them.
I'm also afraid that aliens are excact replicas of ourselves, and that when found, no one will know how to react and the world will lose control.

Not everyone reacts that way, the chemical released in the body which gives you the euphoria is only released for certain people so while you may feel good after defeating your fear, other people may have the same feeling after as you did while you were afraid.

Isn't fear what makes us carnal anyways?
Aren't the three carnal senses fear, rage, and hunger?

Hmm, fear? I'd say heights. I always get the sweat going from that. Oh, and balls. The countless times I got a hard ball in my face by pure accident (even after I'd moved to a 'safe place') must have paid off. Whenever I hear about a sport that involves kicking or throwing balls at people, I go all shivery. The fact that half the class is a bunch of show-offs who love nothing more but to show how hard they can kick/throw that ball after their years of playing sports doesn't help much either.

But spiders, insects? I'm not scared at all. It is rather funny, seeing how my whole family goes in a panic at seeing a single bee buzz around, and me just looking at it. I still wouldn't go near any bug I know to be lethally poisonous, like that black widow spider in Australia. No way, mister. You just stay down there, on the other side of the globe.
