Yep, I tend to agree. The whole reason I never set up another contest after 2008, was the sheer negativity that came out of it. The first one we did, just this forum, was great. It wasn't (and never should be) about winning and losing.That's why I always liked it here, why I've stayed 8 years here - everyone genuinely wants everybody else to do well, like a community support type thingy...

The competition aspect - it's about giving YOURSELF an incentive to write. It's about the FUN of writing something, the FUN of other people you know writing something, and everybody wanting everybody elses story to be great.

And they will be.

When hubster thinks.contest, he thinks winning or.losing. I told him it was for fun, and he said that was dumb.

He's the type to do things for material rewards. I'm not.

I'm competitive, but I don't care if I win or lose as long as I have fun, lol.

I'm usually surprised if I win anything though, lol

I don't do contests, because I wind up putting inordinate amounts of pressure on myself in doing them...And make myself a thousand times worse in the downer stage of my stuff...

What makes this go-round work better (my opinion- YMMV) is that we get to see how others approach the subject. That includes YOU, Uleni! I expect to see that story!

Also- the short form makes it possible for someone who is time-limited to actually READ all of the stories. And (speaking from long-winded experience here)- writing a story that is short but that also is complete is a craft in itself. Doesn't mean you can't leave questions open- or hooks upon which to hang new stories- just- it has to come to a conclusion of some kind.

Now off to read more of Kayla kicking fundament while I wait.
