Also, with regards to your sig:

I agree in general terms, but there is one exception:

Spiderman.

His webbing was artificial.

No, he built a couple of devices to shoot webbing, one for each wrist.

They changed it in the movies, but in the comics and the old cartoons it was technological, not biological.

Yep, a radioactive spider. It gave him all the other stuff, but not the webbing for some reason.

I always rather liked that, just because it meant he was a superhero with a flaw, a weakness. The cartridges of artificial webbing he used occasionaly ran out at very bad times.

Oddly interesting. I had no idea about any of this, although I don't claim to be much of a comic book fan. I did once work for a man that had over $100,000 worth of comic books hidden away in a secret room of his house. It was pretty intense seeing someone spend that kind of money on books. Then again I spend lots on knives and firearms so I guess it isn't too crazy.

I do remember the old cartoon now when you talk about it. I always thought it was cheap that he used technology for the webb dry.gif
But aside from that he doesnīt rely on technology entirely then and if he still had his spidersense, strength, agility and all that I guess I still consider him a real superhero. Though I do think he could just as well have been anything else than Spiderman. That webb is so characteristic and if he has precognition, strength and agility he could have been Tractorman or something laugh.gif

I'm no comic book fan either. But I remembered it from the old cartonns, and went googling.

Yeah, he's definitely a superhero, but one of the odd ones.

But I prefer the old Spiderman with the techno webbing, because that's something he made, not something he got by chance. Puts him one up on some of the other superheroes in my opinion.

I prefer the new version then when he got it all and not used any technology for his superpowers. Both approaches though feel real but if heīs supposed to be Spiderman heīs gotta have the real webb imvho. To me itīs not "super" if itīs technology doing the work.

But there is one thing Batman has going for him.

He has a cape. biggrin.gif
mirocu
True mellow.gif

But that was only cool during the 80s and 90s biggrin.gif

Though I will give Batman credit for his martial arts.
Callidus Thorn
Woah, woah, woah! blink.gif

Capes are still cool!

And the problem with Batman's martial arts is that too many of his foes have guns. That really should end only one way.
mirocu
But Batmanīs suit is bulletproof, right? Like his helmet can withstand blows.

It might stop the bullets, but the sheer kinetic impacts are going to be a problem. And Batman has to hope they haven't got a sniper.

Or the villains could simply break out the high explosives.

Being armoured won't save Batman then. The armour might stop shrapnel and such, but the concussive force would pretty much crush him.
mirocu
Maybe. But thatīs where his wits come in, right? I think Batman has to use his brain more than Iron Man to win his fights.

True, but then you end up with Batman being far smarter than every villain, who are all running round with generic "grunt" henchmen.

Or worse still situations like in Batman Begins, where Razz Al Ghul (or however you spell the guy's name) leaves Batman alive, even though he knows that no-one but Batman could stop him. He goes to Wayne Mansion to eliminate the one obstacle in his path, then decides not to eliminate that one obstacle huh.gif

A problem Iron Man doesn't have to the same extent. At least in the films anyway.

Heh, that's just people overreacting because he doesn't spend the whole film flying round in his suit blowing [censored] up.

After the Avengers, he's having a crisis. Near death does that to a person. He's freaking out over the idea that it's just the suit, not him. And for someone we know to an egotistical narcissist, the thought of him being nothing special is hard for him to handle.

I love the film, because it shows that while he's not really a hero without the suit, he's not useless either.
mirocu
I think Downey does a great job as Tony Stark in the movies Iīve seen. And I guess a crisis fits well into the Iron Man story.

Wasnīt he dependant on a device in his chest to keep him alive?

Can't disagree, he makes a damn good Tony Stark. And he was due for a crisis. I mean he goes from facing his father's old friend, and then the son of his father's former partner, to the events of The Avengers. That's a hell of a jump for a guy who gets by on gadgets.

Yeah, the electromagnet keeping the micro shrapnel from getting to his heart, powered by a miniaturised Arc reactor.

Yeah, it powered the suit as well, though in Iron Man 3 it seems he's building the suit differently. It appears to have it's own internal power supply, possibly supplemented by the chestpiece, I don't think it's mentioned in detail.

Anyway, got to go.
