Unfortunately TV wouldn't help. The only film I've ever fallen asleep watching was Reign of Fire, an utterly abysmal film. Anything else and I will stay awake until it finishes. And I find watching TV in the morning to be a pretty effective way of clearing the cobwebs out of my head. At the moment it's the original Transformers cartoons smile.gif

My mind pretty much runs at that sort of speed all the time anyway, which is why I have to try to empty my mind. Unfortunately my last attempt at using a meditation technique to clear my mind and help me sleep left me somewhere between being asleep and awake, with none of the benefits of either state.

And of course, lack of sleep means I'm getting worked up over things easier, making getting to sleep even trickier. sad.gif

Edit:
Speaking of which, time to make an attempt at storming its bastion.

Night y'all

My husband has to sleep in a pitch black room with two fans going for "white noise," and the slightest movement/light/or sound will disrupt his sleep and put him into a state like you described.

Me, I always slept with a nightlight or a TV on; plus I want to sleep where I can hear every member of the family if they move (so I don't need to sprinkle flour on the floor to see if my children are sneaking out at night, or so I can jump up and fix something to eat if someone wakes up hungry in the night); and I have night blindness, so the last thing I want is to be in a completely blackened room with fans whirring.

Everyone has their own certain tricks they learn about what helps them sleep best; I think you need to test different things out and see what helps you the best.

That thread was 2 years old. Or was that 200 years old. wink.gif

Why cannot I post here??

After all cross dressing is now allowed for men in Fallout 4. Woohooh!!

See, I can post nonsense here as well. laugh.gif

I, (for one) really like the idea of my girls wearing pants instead of being forced into skirts !!!! laugh.gif

Urgh, my hair is the very spirit of anarchy.

I've decided to grow it longer, don't know how long yet. It might come down to how long it gets before it becomes annoying. Thus far it's resisting all attempts to keep it under control.

Which means that I wake up looking like a reject from an anime. laugh.gif

You have Kobby hair! I love wild hair on someone other than me, lol. I spent half my life trying to tame my hair, and the other half trying to puff it back into being wild after I finally got it to behave, lol.

Everyone has their own certain tricks they learn about what helps them sleep best; I think you need to test different things out and see what helps you the best.

Well, I managed to sleep better the last couple of nights, almost got a proper night's sleep last night. I'm beginning to suspect it's tied into creativity. I'll try doing some creative writing exercises next week in the evenings, see if that can tire my brain out a little, stop it winding up so easily.

Heh, at this point I'm a little concerned by my hair. Before I started cutting it really short (3/8ths of an inch) I always combed it to the right. Now that it's getting longer that little bit at the front is trying to grow into an emo-flap. ohmy.gif

Once it gets long enough it's going straight back, stop it getting in he way of my widow's peak. I'm also working on growing a goatee, to look as sinister as possible evillol.gif

Not that I really think it's necessary though... huh.gif

Sometimes when I was having creative bursts I would end up writing all night long - instead of making me sleepy it would charge me up and the night would be over with before I knew it, lol.

You had me laughing on your hair and evil beard = get Kobby to show you his pictures from 3-4 years ago. First he grew his wild hair long to tame it, then grew the "evil looking" goatee-ish type beard (but his was more like James Hetfield's (Metallica):

I know what you mean. People seem to look for reasons to hate others no matter how little (or no) cause given. It is a poison that eats through any good sense they ever had. The worst part of it is, it is in all of us; even those who have been victims of bigotry have their own prejudices too. I guess it is a part of being human, but a very ugly part.

It is humanity's greatest weakness. We are all different from one another, yet so many seem intent on dragging everyone down to their version of what's right. They're all too busy focusing on how we're different to remember that we're all the same. Those differences scare them, because they don't understand them. And that fear makes them feel weak, so they turn that fear to hatred, because it lets them lie to themselves and pretend that they are strong. (Which is what creates so many bloody fanatics.)

Yet they forget that it is those people who are different; the oddballs, the nonconformists, the ones who look beyond what is simply presented to them, that have brought humanity this far. Without all that makes us different, there would be nothing in human existence worth celebrating or remembering, nothing worth passing forwards to future generations, because nothing would ever change.

It is a truly depressing thought verysad.gif

On a more cheerful note, I'm writing a little short story that came to mind.

Edit: And now that I think about, that bit above really got away from me...

I think as our society nowadays is so over-sensitive to the point we can no longer speak our minds about things, even if those opinions arenīt really evil at all to begin with, comment sections on Yahoo and Youtube have become outlets for that. Fail-safe valves if you will, to let the steam out. And as people have become more and more suppressed, they become ever so hostile and fierce whenever an opportunity to release some steam appears. If things werenīt so sensitive, people wouldnīt be so hostile in those comment sections. Theyīre not bad people, really. But we tend to exaggerate when we have a chance.

How do I know this? Well, because once I too was one of those commentators on Youtube who tend to let some steam out...

Something about the anonymity of the internet creates an environment where people feel it is okay to say or do things they never would dare to in their real lives; as if because no one knows who they really are that they can be free to be horrible to another person. It makes me sick inside sometimes to see how people treat one another on the internet.

Me personally, I try to treat people on here as if I was seeing them in person. It opens me up for some bad ones, but it also opens me up for meeting and really getting to know the good ones, and there are good ones out there; even if they are few and far between.

When they're commenting on a news item just to flood the web with mindless hate and bigotry, directed at a group of people, it's more than just letting off steam. Some of the crap they come out with is vile and despicable, posted by people who don't want to understand because it would challenge their worldview too much. It's not one or two people replying like that, it's literally dozens of them, all feeding off of each other's hate.

That's what gets me, it's not just what they're saying, it's the bigots camping out for a circlejerk that makes me sick.

There are a lot more signs than that to make someone worry about where our future might be heading; but the (self) destruction or implosion of mankind is most likely to see its end long enough after our lifetimes that we won't be here to see it; (and I doubt our children will either).
