Not the best pic, since it's taken with my cell phone but it's finally here - my new car. I still have some bureaucracy stuff to do but if all goes as planned I get keys on Tuesday at 2 PM. Can't wait. biggrin.gif

Thanks!

It's Suzuki Vitara a.k.a. Escudo or Sidekick in some parts of the world.

I could see myself in that car. Or... a similar car.. biggrin.gif

Did you get the 4WD version?
Lopov
Of course. wink.gif

Once you go 4WD, you never go back cool.gif

Still remember when I impressed my dad with what my Quattro could do so much he later bought a Subaru. He who always said "you don´t need that four wheel drive thing!"

Well... biggrin.gif
Acadian

When I lived in Denver, I thought it was fun to go for a ride in winter and look at all the 4wd's off in the ditches at the side of the road. My behemoth Ford station-wagon only had 2wd but all four wheels had brakes. It's great to be able to really get rolling but you also need to be able to stop. Overconfident, 4wd'ers would just go too fast for conditions.

Yes indeed, and those 4WD´ers are not associated with me smile.gif

Having 4WD doesn´t mean you can drive as if it´s summer, it merely means you have a better chance of not getting stuck or be hindered by an ice-covered road, although here having spiky tyres helps as well...

I have never gotten stuck or ended up in a ditch because my ego isn´t big enough for that to happen biggrin.gif

I for one wouldn´t buy a 2WD again unless I wanted to go drifting, and then it had to be RWD biggrin.gif
Lopov
I insured it today, damn that was expensive. It was 850€ with a 50% discount so the full price would be 1700€. excl.gif But I had some discounts because of being at the same insurance company for years and because I have other stuff insured at the same office. But still...I wonder how expensive are insurances for high-class cars like Mercedes. indifferent.gif
mirocu
Buy one and find out! laugh.gif

I think you´ll forget about all that though once you have a seat in your new car and drive away from the dealer biggrin.gif

I prefer RWD as well; but have never driven a 4WD yet.

Acadian
I used to spend some time up in the northern woods of Maine, near the Canadian border. My grandfather had a small hunting camp up there. The Great Northern Paper Company had a large and sustainable lumber operation in the area. They ran a fleet of pickup trucks and wrestled with various options/combinations to deal with the snow in the winter and mud in the spring.

They found the ‘sweet spot’ between cost and capability with a fleet of Ford F-150 pickups with 2WD, a limited slip rear end, winch on the front end and two-way radio in the cab. The limited slip rear end was a cheap way to reduce the number of times they got stuck and the winch (with plenty of trees) worked well when they did get stuck.

As late as the 1980’s, this was their solution. I have no idea what they do now or what technology has done in terms of cost/effectiveness of 4WD.

In the US of A, there's 4WD and AWD, and the vehicles everyone but Acadian is talking about are AWD (with differentials). Some of the hardcore Jeeps use a system where all wheels are driven at the same speed regardless of turn etc. which is typically turned off most of the time (or else it would break a lot). It's really for off-road only, and maybe not even needed there.

Jensen, Audi, Lamborghini et al. have embraced AWD as a way of getting MOAR POWWA down to the road through driving more of the wheels. Anyone remember the Jensen FF? All-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes, back in 1966. Very expensive and made only in right-hand drive, so it didn't sell a lot. The person I knew with one, also drove an original Shelby Cobra.

AWD didn't take off until the Audi Quattro group B rally cars, where they could run with higher power because all the wheels shared it. So Audi have always been big on it, and all the Subarus (except for the BRZ, which is sort of a Toyota anyway) use it.

Congratulations, Lopov! Very nice. Silver is my favorite car color. (The most important consideration, lol.)

I’m driving into a snow zone today. Odahviing our pet bearded dragon has already started her relaxing weekend at the lizard spa. My ancient Suburban is nearing retirement age. The last time I drove this way it enjoyed the ride home on a nice, comfortable flatbed tow truck with all of us jammed into the cab. Hopefully not on this trip!

Yeah, I´ve always liked the Quattros and Subarus for the systems they have (not an expert on either, mind you). No fan at all of the Haldex system though as they have had massive problems early on. Probably better now but they´ve left a bad taste in my mouth even though I´ve never had a car with it. I´ve heard many Volvos that have it broke down around the same milage and it was incredibly expensive to fix.

Man, if I had gotten an original rally Quattro from back in the day. The really nice specimens now rival brand new cars in terms of cost!

Not the best pic, since it's taken with my cell phone but it's finally here - my new car. I still have some bureaucracy stuff to do but if all goes as planned I get keys on Tuesday at 2 PM. Can't wait. biggrin.gif

Very cute car, Lopov! I like the style of the lights in the front, like oriental eyes!

Lopov
Thanks Grits and mALX!

Grits, I agree about silver - it's also my favorite and when it comes to color, I don't mind paying more to get the silver one. All my cars, except one, were silver.

Hey! Eye trouble is no fun at all.

Do you have some colloidal silver eye drops? If you have any kind of pink-eye; eye infection/etc - clears it up instantly. They use it on newborns to kill any germs contracted in the birthing process. Anyway, it is also just plain really soothing if your eye is achy for any reason.

I hope you get feeling better. sad.gif

Callidus Thorn
It was a bit out of focus this morning, just enough to notice, and I woke up with it feeling a bit weird. But my sleep's been pretty messed up the last few nights, so I figure I probably just slept awkwardly and squished it a little, like I did a while back.

It still feels odd, but at least the fuzziness is gone.
mirocu
Good day here, Thorn. Played some poker with my grandma as is tradition on Fridays and then I took the rest of the day off tongue.gif

Too bad about your eye. Waking up with such stuff can be frightening but usually it clears up soon enough. Still not fun sad.gif
Callidus Thorn
Yup, 'tis a real bitch.

Doesn't like backlit screens at the moment either, I only really popped in to write a bit about my character. Think I'd better call it quits before it starts feeling any weirder.

Later.

Funny you mention backlit screens, I´m currently watching Ashens review handhelds from the 80s and 90s and none have backlit screens tongue.gif

When any light source looks way too bright and burns - for me that is a pretty strong indication of a migraine headache (as opposed to a standard headache). But Pink-eye can also cause your eye to be light-sensitive.

Darken your room and shut off both your TV and computer; lights; etc. You can check your mirror to see if your pupils look correct, or have someone else check them for you. Make sure they are closing as they should when light hits them.

If not, rest and try to get an appointment with an eye doctor. If you need something on, try music. (that won't add light into the room).

It sounds like sometimes you are sleeping with one eye open/not closed all the way. Air may be drying out that eye, making it sore and swollen by morning from the lack of moisture it needs to be healthy. You may try wearing an eye cover (like my avatar has on) when you sleep; or just ensuring your eyes are closed.

Or you could have a sty in your eye; but you would see that looking in the mirror.

But anyway, there are some drops you can use that re-moisturize eyes that have become dry. It is not good for eyes to let that happen, so find out what is causing it and what you need to do to stop it happening. Eyes are critical to take care of.

My first day of moving is done. But at least all the furniture and other heavy things like books have been moved and put in their places. Same with clothes and food and closet stuff. All that is left at my old place are the pictures and other wall-hangings, a few kitchen odds and ends, and a ton of cat toys (many of which I have not seen in years). Oh, and I found my copies of Sword & Elfstones of Shanarra, and Sheepfarmer's Daughter, they were buried under other books on the shelf. Now I am beat.
mirocu
Ugh. I hate moving, so much hassle laugh.gif

I hope you´ll like your nice place, Rosa. Are you sure you won´t miss your old place? smile.gif
Lopov
Have you moved somewhere far?
Acadian
Wow, sounds like you're mostly there! Did you conjure some rock or tree golems to help lift heavy things? Like Lopov, I'm curious about your location. Still in the Big D area?

Sounds like it's going great, SubRosa. Yay for finding your Shannara books! I hope today goes just as well and by tonight you can relax with the kitties (and their mountain of 'new' toys, lol).

I didn't move far. Just down the hallway in fact, to a newly refurbished apartment with all sorts of upgrades, like a washer and dryer, diswasher, brand new appliances, cabinets, carpet, and so on. It is so much nicer than the old one. There are no bullet holes, because they filled in the old ones when they upgraded the apartment! wink.gif

I did conjure up a rock elemental, a.k.a. my brother Darryl (whom Persephone's Darryl is partly named after). I never would have been able to get the big stuff without him. But I still feel sore all over today.
mirocu
Well, at least you didn´t have to rent a truck to haul it all, then smile.gif

Can you teach me the spell for "Summon Darryl" (Or "Summon my other brother Darryl") so I can get moved? I sure could use a big strong Darryl helping me carry a few things too!
