Urgh, Britain is so [censored] up right now sad.gif

Aww, sorry, CT. It seems most everywhere is pretty screwed up now. I'm guessing your concerns might revolve around Britain's huge demographic/cultural shifting, or perhaps escaping from the EU?

Being British myself I feel obligated to pitch in and agree with CT. Although I don't know if the EU conundrum is what CT was referring to, I, myself, will be voting to stay within the EU. I can see no factual benefits which warrant leaving. Also with a recent loss of, who appeared to be, quite a beloved MP... Britain is certainly ******* up right now!

I wish toe world could just be peaceful and we could eradicate all the hate but thats not the world we live in.

I'm British, but living in the USA. I note that if you're British, but not resident in the UK, you can't vote. If you're resident in the UK, but not British, you can't vote. So the two categories of people most likely to vote "In" are unable to do so. Do I detect bias?

Most definitely! Both parties have a right to vote. I guess I can somewhat understand why Brits not living in Britain aren't allowed to vote with them not being in the country, there for it not directly affecting them, (which is still stupid because at the end of the day you ARE British whether you're in the USA or not.) But i think with people who aren't British but LIVING in Britain there should be some exception. My old teacher was american, but had lived in Britain for most of her life, and it's now 10 years later and she's still around which means she's be in in the country for 30+ years. I think she should have an opinion and a right to vote. This country is her home.

Gosh, McB! That is awful, I hope you are okay! I didn't know cows could kick that high, thought their udders would get in the way and bounce their legs back down or something. But I had a friend get kicked in the head by the horse he was grooming, (his glasses also flewL) - and he was not okay. I mean, his brain was still intact, he had all his faculties; but his face was a mess.

Hope you are okay!

The side of my head hurts (requiring regular painkillers, no driving and no drinking...Dammmitttt!!!...) and I have an black eye...But, as I said, my thick head protected what's left of me brains... biggrin.gif ...

It happened during milking, and the design of the parlour is a bit like a car garage...(Auto-shop?)...Where you go down into a "Pit" which means you're a bit lower down to the cows, so as to make it easy to get at their udders...Which can be...Wait for it...Udderly delightful!!...Nyuk...

Aaaamywho...This also brings you down - especially when putting the milking "Clusters" on - close to their legs...

The design of the parlour makes it impossible for them to get a full swing of the leg at you...But...There's still room for a damned determined smack backwards...Where I was meant it was basically a good old shinning from Ms Moo...A proper hoof or elbow to the head and I think it would have been a damned sight more serious...It was bad enough...Painful...A definite good old ringing of the noggin...But I'm alright ta... smile.gif ...

It may have been a bit of everything...The thing with Ms MP is horrible...So sad... sad.gif ...

Human nature, sadly, means that hate and intolerance is here to stay...I play a lot of Assassin's Creed, where the first game is mostly set in the time of the crusades...1000 years ago...Christians V Muslims in the Middle-East...The Crusades, roughly speaking, originally began when a Muslim warlord decided to band together with a bunch of other warlords then try and invade "Christian Europe" (Spain, Greece, Cyprus...Some others...)...1000 and odd years and some things change but it's basically still the same fight...

*Sigh*...

There's rules in here about getting into politics...Because all it does is beget arguments...

But I will say that I hate being told what to do...When what I'm told does, on every single level, appear to be an exercise in, "I have this power, I will tell you to do this despite there being absolutely no logical reason or valid argument as to why this rule is now placed upon you, and you have no choice in the matter...As I have been given this power without your knowledge or discourse as to my merits or otherwise..."...

The EU is a money sink-hole that is sinking in its own *Bureaucracy, and sucking us under and further into Global debt...And so long as the nine "men" with the German title have absolute power...No amount of being "In." and "At the table..." will change anything...

If we stay in, there will be no change for good, only further loss of that "British" that people living abroad for years still cling to...

The only way to be Great again...Is on our own merits...

Sorry...This whole referendum thing has made me incredibly - and fiercely - British...(Which does not even remotely mean exclusionist, whatever the Remain camp say...)...

Yup, it was about the referendum, and I agree with everything you've said. The leave campaign is frankly absurd, obsessed with immigration and built on concepts that are laughably outdated.

Britain is a crappy little island, standing between the superpowers of Europe and the USA. the notion that we can even pretend to be on an even footing to either of them is beyond ridiculous. And successive governments have done far more damage to this nation that the EU has.
Tellie
I can understand both sides of the party as due to the special 'deal' Norway agreed to we are 'technically' members in the EU that we get the benefits and all that, but we also have to follow the rulse and we're not represented in the parliament so are not allowed a voice in the EU.

My biggest problem with the EU (or our own deal) is that first of all, the socialist labour party in Norway were the ones who held a referendum TWICE and both times the majority of the population said no, so they snuck in the new deal instead since apparently 'it is not the same as being a member'.

The problem with EU is that some of the rules we have agreed to follow go against our constitution. Nor am I comfortable with the fact that many of the leaders in the EU are not officials elected by the public. No nation (or its inhabitants) can affect any change in the EU leadership, we can't vote who becomes the president nor can we put forth a vote of no confidence. The EU is basically a government with no accountability to the inhabitants of Europe, and until the entirety of the EU parliament become electable (in that we get to vote for candidates and the like) I am wholly against it on the priniple that a government you cannot influence, or put forth your vote to is essentially a dictatorship or oligarchy, whatever you wish to call it.

Call me sceptic, or whatever but I will always be opposed to the EU in its current form. The idea of the EU is great, but in its current form it is barely more than a broken beurocratic mess where rich men with no accountability holds the power.

Still I do have bragging rights of having climbed my second 8k metre peak (Cho Oyu being the first two years ago) Hoping for Everest next year, if I manage it I have the Seven Summits and 3 poles at the same time, having done the north and south pole already.

This is so Awesome! Most def have earned bragging rights!

mALX
QUOTE(Tellie @ Jun 17 2016, 09:51 AM) *

the three poles are north pole, south pole and Everest (highest point on the earth, wiki it XD)

And no, I've only done 2 8kilometre peak out of 14 and the two easiest ones at that...not that any 8k peak is easy. K2...I do hope to be able to complete all 8k peaks out there, but K2 will be one of the last, as besides Annapurna 1 (with a death toll of 41%) is considered the most difficult mountain in the world to climb (and has yet to be successfully sumitted during the winter).

The seven summits are an achievement you get for climbing the tallest mountain on each continent (including antarctica).

As for costs, they are usually pretty high. The 'lowest' price for an Everest expedition where you are guaranteed of good support (sherpas, Advanced Base Camp, experienced guides, extra oxygen and so forth) comes to around 40k USD. My trips to Cho Oyu and Manaslu cost 35k USD, fortunately I have contacts in various organisations in Norway so I get most of the costs for my trips sponsored, in return for pictures and written articles (my education in journalism helps with that).

Boy are those some scary odds! Urk!

That is so Awesome that you are able to be compensated in being almost given these trips that match your own goals in exchange for using your own talents to document them! Can't beat that! And so then, you have kept a journal of it so you have something to show your children and Grandchildren one day about all you have accomplished = Awesome !!!!

Will you ever publish your personal journals on your trips? (I want to read the one where you kicked Yeti in the groin because he woke you ... etc. laugh.gif

(imho) I can't agree that any foreigner living in any country should be able to vote on any political agenda or referendum without first committing to them by becoming a legal citizen of that country. Until they become citizens, they are living there as guests; and they may be effected by the decisions made; but have the option of leaving if they don't like decisions made (where as a citizen of that land can't leave without becoming a guest in someone else's land).

However, that said = do believe British nationals who are not in the country should be able to voice their vote. Just because they aren't home at the time of the voting, they are still British citizens; and should have a say in their own country whether they are in it at the time or not.

At least that is my opinion.

Had.

The army's being reduced, with reserves making up the numbers.

The navy has fewer ships, and now doesn't even have an aircraft carrier anymore. And won't for years.

Which rather limits the RAF if they can't get a lift to wherever they need to be.

Britain's strength has always been that we punch above our weight economically, but with an ideologically driven government pursuing a self-defeating course of austerity that's going down the drain anyway. We were a superpower, but that just doesn't hold true anymore.

The Leave campaign failed spectacularly to make a proper argument against Europe, and instead relied on buzzwords and nonsense. For [censored]'s sake, Nigel Farrage actually ripped off Nazi propaganda as part of the Leave campaign

If the country is in so much [censored], then stop whinging about it and go do something about it...

Right, be cause it's not as though UK politics is dominated by wealthy individuals, anyone can get into it really easily...

We were completely stuck in Europe...We would have been ruined by the burden of having to build Spain's new road system...Or yet another airport they don't need, at least this way we can say we tried to fix us...

So Britain got absolutely nothing out of the EU? The benefits at no point outweighed the costs, and not one government since we entered the EU objected to that? Curious.

And that last part of yours presumes that politicians will deliver the fix that the country actually needs, but experience and history indicate otherwise.

Besides, in what is becoming a Federal Europe, ruled from one central place...What place would there be for our Monarchy?...Or is that something that you don't give a monkeys for, either?...

Actually, not only don't I give a damn about the monarchy, I'm opposed to the very idea of it. I see no reason why anyone should be held above the rest of us, for no reason other than the circumstances of their birth. It's an anachronistic throwback to a time where the rule of law was the Divine Right of Kings, and that kind of nonsense we're better off without.
