Well, Thanksgiving preparations are complete here as well and I’m exhausted. After bringing a poinsettia home from the store, I added some water to it. All done. The cheerful plant however, will serve as price of admission when our wonderful neighbors next door share their bounty with us.

As one of the Acadians (not this one) does not eat turkey, or stuffing, or sweet potatoes or pumpkin pie, the tradition often falls to a turkey sandwich for one and a ham sandwich for the other. kvright.gif Our alternative is sometimes a buffet at one of the casinos, but the prob there is that hundreds and hundreds of our closest friends all seem to have the same idea at the same time. panic.gif So this year is a delightfully thankful one! happy.gif

CONGRATULATIONS HAUTE!!! WOO HOO!

Casa Treydog is now stuffed with Turkey Alfredo (seriously- turkey breast cooked in slow cooker with Alfredo sauce and other secret ingredients), mashed potatoes, cherry Jell-o salad, cornbread (for the dressing to be made tomorrow), butter cake makings (also tomorrow), and green beans.

Will be just Mrs. and I, plus step-daughter and her husband

Oh- and of course 3 VERY interested cats

Cheers and best wishes to everyone!

LOL, Acadian.

This morning I have already been petitioned for a new tradition: pie for breakfast. Silly children, that's tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Woohoo! Pumpkin pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving is indeed a stellar tradition! You are wise to hold the line for this morning though, Grits. biggrin.gif

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

If you make the pies the day before Thanksgiving, in this house they get eaten the day before Thanksgiving - sort of like a runner-up to the big event. Then I have to make two more. Thanksgiving morning half of one will disappear before I start smacking people, lol.

I hope those who celebrate it enjoyed thanksgiving.

Over here it's 'German' Market season, given Edinburgh has a shortage of Germans and limited willingness to eat certain foods it probably doesn't match the real thing but it's still fun. Glühwein, fire punch, marsipan and crepes eaten to bad christmas tunes in the cold. The atmosphere is really good and it's a fun place to go in the evening. It is slightly worrying that you can have Christmas tunes in November though...

Now that I have had a couple of days off to recuperate from an intense start at my new job (one more training session tomorrow, then shadowing for a week or two), I am finally catching up on my Nanowrimo. 47,280 words so far! I'm fired to try and make it to 50K tonight!

So I'm off!

Everyone seems to be getting sick of Thanksgiving dinner leftovers now, even disuguised in different dishes. It is now time for the pets to enjoy the rest.

Actually, the dogs did get some ham on Thanksgiving, the cats got a taste of turkey already. But when the leftovers get dumped out they will all feast like kings.

I make a great 'Turkey-Rice' vegetable soup, Turkey Tetrazzini, fried turkey balls (not nads) - I mean the list of disguises is endless, but sooner or later people quit falling for it and start bringing home...Krystal burgers. That is a pretty huge signal that they won't tolerate another dish with turkey sneaked into it - and the day that the dogs and cats get their feast.

I have one slice of pumpkin pie left for breakfast tomorrow, then I will have to console myself with eggnog in my coffee until Christmas. tongue.gif

Eggnog?! Ew. It's like off-flavored, thick milk.

Mmmmmmm egg nog!! I love it so... but I'm allergic :/ Allergies be damned, I'm going to sneak drink it anyway!

As for turkey, we're having it again. I personally don't mind, but my mom and my brother do. So when they ask what's for dinner I get to deal with the groans! Next year I think I'll talk my dad out of buying two turkeys!

I've got a question for any of the kitty owners.

With Melaina, usually I have her food bowl constantly filled with food. I feel bad when its empty because what if she's hungry and her bowl isn't full? Well, my brothers do this for their cats and my mom does this for hers and all of those cats are rather plump. Cute, but plump.

Does it work better to have a set feeding time? I get emails from a cat advice site and they mentioned a set time to help the cats go to bed at night (does this work? Hell is it possible?). Or is it fine to keep her bowl constantly filled so she can eat as she pleases? She never overdoes it. She's more of a snacker.

I fill Piper's bowl once a day with a full cup. Usually near the end of the day before I head to bed. Somedays he has it empty when I come home from work, others there's still some in it. I force myself to keep his amount down, partially due to not being able to let him really run in my small apartment for exercise. His check up had him at the ideal weight for his age.

Biggest problem with this is he has on occasion eaten too much and throws up. Most of the time he's good about not getting too much.

Piper's something of a slacker himself. He's pretty happy with chilling on the bed/couch back/laptop.
