The m is small (for mobile = laptop) - the ALX is in all caps for the ALX division of Alienware computers (back before the Dell takeover).

mALX was THE most powerful gaming laptop EVAH at the time I took the name. 19.5" screen, dual (top of the line) graphic cards in SLI formation, overclocked - the most AWESOME gaming laptop in the world at the time, and would have continued to be because Alienware would have continued to pump new technologies into it to keep it on top. It ran from bare-bones (3,000 - 5,000 dollars) to top of the line with every option (8,000 - 10,000 dollars) and came with a backpack case, ball cap, T-Shirt, all kinds of Alienware mALX logo'd junk to make your friends green with envy wearing around.

Immediately after the merger (AKA Dell takeover) the first thing they did was "trash"-canned (you know what word I used for "trash") the mALX. They said the cost of keeping that division open was overly high for the number of mALX purchases.

I personally flooded their email and hard mail with complaints (= rants). Blogged all over the internet over it.

Then they (Dell) made the decision to "trash-can" (see above for real word used here) the glowing Alien head on all laptops - Dan Ackerman said "Alienware was growing up." I guess he thinks grown-ups don't need a glowing alien head on their laptops. Does he know any gamers? I don't think so.

Once again I flooded their email and hard mail with rants and blogged all over the internet about it, but the glowing head was replaced with a dead one in mock silver.

Then they began replacing the top of the line Alienware parts with cheap Dell parts. Alienware went downhill quick after that. I blogged about "The Death of a Dream, The Fall of Alienware" all over the internet. At the time the company I worked for was partnered with Dell. Needless to say my stand against what they were doing to Alienware did not go over well.
