So now there´s no turning back, huh? No more Renee-exclusive tape mods... biggrin.gif

Kahreem's game will stay vanilla, but yeah other than that, no more tape kvleft.gif

That´s too bad. I really enjoyed reading about all your creative ideas for console mods biggrin.gif

They'll still be there with Kahreem's game, but even so I still employ my own pretend mods occasionally with modded games as well.

Middas, 10:44 AM, Heartfire V, 4th Era Year 004

"Yes?" asks the proprietor of An Archer's Paradox to the slender, almost feline wood elf who walked into his shop.

"Have you no remembrance of me? It is I. ... Aerin. ... From Valenwood. And you are Daelin, the man whose lifelong intent is to fashion an arrow so perfect, that it has the power to make its flight forever?"

"What can I interest you in?" Daenlin asks, unsure of the blonde-haired Bosmer before him. I accustom a lot of customers in here, especially now that the Oblivion Crisis has ended. Can't remember them all now, can I?..

"My how Cyrodiil has changed," Aerin speaks freely. "The town! .. Bravil! ... has much changed," says Aerin the Ranger from Valenwood. Although Daenlin doesn't seem to recognize her, Aerin cannot help but feel a bit glib and chatty, anyways. After all, Daenlin is one of the only original townspeople from back in the 3rd Era.

"So many people," she continues... "lurking and mucking about. And how foul the stench from the cistern! .. I cannot say it 'tis my earnest opinion that all of such peoples, attracted to Cyrodiil's newfound booming* from all other provinces, have made their dwelling within the town of Bravil of such proper gracing and proper greeting."

At this, Daenlin stands dumbly, unsure of what to say. I am a simple Bosmer trying to make a living, blonde lady-elf! ... he thinks but does not say. Are you going to buy or sell? Let's get this over with!

"Why, do you have knowledge that just two days prior I made entrance into one of the new shops upon the dock there, and that the proprietor of said shop enforced in unwillful conversation upon me, thrusting me with a task I have no befitting or desire to accomplish! ... That such peoples, such outsiders, have not the typical customs of Cyrodil, would you or would you not agree?"

Daenlin finally speaks. "I offer the finest goods and lowest prices in all Cyrodiil," he says, hoping 'blondy' will get the hint.

"YES! .. YES I say! Right down to business. I am in agreement, Daenlin. Here, I have got some magical armors and things to sell. You... you are of the older styling and set, a more original settler to Cyrodiil. And with politeness and properity, you merely wish to assist me, and take my coinage, and that is all. Here, I have got this ... this magical helm upon my head which I dredged up from a cave full of imps. I feel this helm's magic protects the wearer from magical spells a bit. Would you like to have such for your shop?..."

At this moment, Lady Saga feels as if she has made a friend in the "new Cyrodiil", while Daenlin looks forward to buying that magical helmet and pricing it for the masses. It'll be nice to have an edge on all the new competition in town.

RG4, Which better cities mod do you use? I'm looking to experiment with a couple smile.gif

***

Today Lissa bought herself something she'd been unable to for a while... A PET DOG! She bought A Labrador Retriever from the Cheydinhal Pet Store... She loves him dearly, but has yet to think of a name for him. She's waiting for him to tell her.

Also she purchased a new bow from the elusive Goddess store in the Imperial City. It's lightweight and powerful, perfect for her. She also bought a new wig, a very cute side ponytail!

*As you can tell... I'm making the most of some of the better mods available!

So far I have Companion share and recruit, the pet store, the goddess shop, the rogue outfit, the set essential spell and I'm currently looking for a good better cities mod. I'm quite happy with these mods, so I think I'll stop for now! Haha

I am genuinely uncertain as to what the Princess is up to at the moment.
I believe that she's "overseeing" some further renovation of The Manor prior to setting off west and south to Anvil. She spoke something of her plans to head back through the Imperial City and down to the south east.

She is I know quite excited by the whole artifact search for Umbacano. He's a big noise in the City and she's an Elf who knows what side her bread is buttered on.
I imagine there's to be an element of that increasingly occuring.

I personally would quite like her to head up to the north for a bit, but Eilidh is not a fan of cold weather so I am not sure how or if that will be happening.
Not unless she has to, anyway.

She isn't, but she also knows which side her bread is buttered on.
Umbacano is a man who can provide her with a way in, but he needs a key to be unlocked...

Loved it, Renee! It´s great that you placed Aerin in the fourth era which would so nicely explain all the newcomers. It was a good read to my tea and sandwiches smile.gif

I still prefer to linger in the third era though... tongue.gif

I thought I would chime in with my opinions while you are waiting for RG4 to answer.

I've used both Open Cities and Better Cities. Both have pluses and minuses.

Open Cities comes in two flavors: Classic ?and Reborn. Classic just leaves the city layouts untouched, and places the city interiors into the Tamriel Worldspace so that you can actually open the gates and ride your horse into town. Reborn ?is the same concept, but changes the cities in terms of layouts and appearances (new walls, buildings in different locations, etc) except for the Imperial City and Skingrad. Again you just open the gates and walk right in - no loading screens.

Better Cities is more like Classic Open Cities in that it enhances rather than changes the vanilla towns. I find the changes are less dramatic than in Open Cities Reborn (OCR). Better Cities has the option to make them open, in other words they work much like Open Cities with no loading screens, gates that actually open, etc. Also Better Cities is modular, so you can install BC only for those cities you want to enhance, and leave the others alone.

I liked Bruma, Cheydinhal and Anvil in Open Cities Reborn, but I hated Leyawiin in that mod. The layout didn't make that much sense for a harbor town, the geography was altered so much that it no longer fit into the swampy nature of Blackwood, and it just seemed a lot of work to move about town. In Better Cities this was not the case, and what I really liked about Better Cities Leyawiin is that the poor quarter really seemed poor.

You'd have to play around with the different mods and see what you like the best.

Currently I'm playing with none of these mods. I feel that while they enhance the immersive experience and add eye candy to the game, ultimately they do nothing to tell the story of my characters, especially my current one. So I don't have them installed. I find that TIE does more for me than the cities mods. But for a while there those cities mods really made the game like new again.

Rihanae: Holy **** I forgot all about pets. Wow. Lady Saga can have a pet. The thought never even occurred to me til you just mentioned the dog Lissa bought.

Phon: Just realized your new beau and my old beau are going to be doing Umbacano's quests. That'll be interesting.

mirocu: thanks, was really good to finally write a Saga snippet again. It's been since.. geez... October? September? .. and don't worry. I actually have some surprises because not all my PC characters will be 4th era.

Wow, I really agree with this. The thing about BC is not everything about this mod makes cities "Better". There are things I love, and other things I'm scratching my head about, or at least unsure about, or downright disagree with. I can't stand the that goes on for instance, and there are a few really bad glitches I've seen with BC: NPCs walking into walls and stuff like this. But overall I dig this mod and am happy with it.

I actually went to OC Reborn for the Leyawiin remodel, so tastes obviously differ. The Castle's in the right place, with town either side of the river. It's a city that makes sense. Plus I liked the dock layout, allowing ship passage past it, rather than BC's terminal.

I'd have preferred some of the other cities to have stayed the same size as the originals, but modders like to add stuff at the same time as they rebuild. The one thing that stood out was that the identical city walls went away. All the cities have a separate character.

Skingrad caused me a lot of issues with the Gweden mod, as I'd put content out in the streets, that needed cloning for the open city, but that would have happened with any opening up.

I agree with ghastley about the OCR changing the generic city walls to something more in sync with each city's character. If OCR was modular like BC is, I would go back to it in a heartbeat.

One thing I didn't like about BC was the quests, especially the Gold Horse Courier and the Rangers Guild. The GHC quest was kind of meh. The Rangers Guild was irritating in that it felt unfinished (and probably was). I did like the banking enough to find the stand along Bank of Cyrodiil? and install that into my game. Now my PC doesn't have to carry around so much gold! And it earns better interest than my own savings IRL! blink.gif
