QUOTE(King Coin @ Feb 14 2014, 04:09 PM) QUOTE(Callidus Thorn @ Feb 13 2014, 10:17 PM) Ugh, I hate George R. R. Martin.
A Song of Ice and Fire. I started reading the first one a week ago, at about this sort of time, I'm now about to start the fifth book in the series.
Too bloody hard to put down, those books are.
I started them, didn't get far. Not my taste. Too dark? Or too gritty?
--------------------
And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed. I long for scenes where man hath never trod A place where woman never smiled or wept There to abide with my Creator, God, And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept, Untroubling and untroubled where I lie The grass below—above the vaulted sky.”

This day is very cheap for me... True. I always said that on the bright side of being single on Cupid day. I bought my girl a bouquet of flowers roses. Yes, how original lol! I started them, didn't get far. Not my taste. Too dark? Or too gritty? Too underage sexy? Haha. Yeah, that too. We fourteen year old protagonists doing adult stuff in the book. Surprised despite this he has such a fanbase. Typically society frowns on that stuff.

Yeah. I prefer something with characters that I can like and aren't just fodder for the author to kill. Also, 14 year olds having sex is [censored] up. Not interested.

I love him. He inspired me to write and change the theme of my stories, though I already had a darker/bloody grittiness to all my stories instead of the knee-slap adventure time stories. His books are fantastic and so are the characters. I absolutely love the fact that he has no true villains in his story. Every character has their flaws. I just wish less of the characters were idiots. So far Ned Stark takes the crown of chief idiot: Rather appropriately for the series his daughter Sansa takes the crown of queen idiot, just for being a stereotypical airhead princess. And some of them suddenly seem to become idiots: Daenerys at Meereen, Petyr at the Eyrie (I've no idea what he's supposed to be doing up there) My favourite character is easily Tyrion Lannister. Great backstory, great character, always good for a laugh. I'd consider this something of a grey area when it comes to the series. In a world where twelve year olds are considered old enough to bear arms, a fourteen year old boy is a legitimate king, and an eleven year old girl kills a couple of people, it's not like it's out of context. QUOTE(Vital @ Feb 14 2014, 08:33 PM) I love the asoiaf series, although being 14 when I read it, some of the content was quite a shock...
I'm pretty sure there's shocking stuff in there for everyone

QUOTE(mirocu @ Feb 14 2014, 09:24 PM) It says that in the description this time! It didn't last time? I've heard of what you see is what you get, but that's taking it a little too literally
