Hidetaka has been roaming the Capital Wasteland for the past few days. She found Megaton, and agreed to help Moira write her book. Though it turns out that writing is not what Hidetaka will be doing! In return Moira is showing Hidetaka how these wacky abacus-in-a-box things with the glowing screens and keys on a board.

Well, I took the plunge... I now own FO3! I'm kinda just getting a feel for the game again ATM so I've got a test character purely to play a couple of the quests. However, saying this, I've already got me perma-character all planned out.

She is called Dylan Bowcross (A bit of a mouthfull tongue.gif) and her origins are that of the linear storyline. However, she is a lot less rebelaious than the game INSISTS the Lone Wanderer is. She will be in traiing to be a doctor under her fathers guidence before the whole drama of the vault forces her to leave.

She will use a submachine gun and her skills will be Small guns and Medicine... haven't decided on a third yet.

She is inspired by one of my most favourite post-apocalype heroines from my favourite movie, but despite this she is very different.

I'll u[pdate more once I've finished my current breif playthrough haha

I had been debating it for a while, but I couldn't think of a character I wanted to play. I think that was my biggest turn off! Haha. But Dylan is so appropriate for the FO3 world it felt perfect! haha

Hidetaka found the Dunwich Building today. Even for an awesome monster basher such as her, that got creepy. But now she has the Melee Weapons Bobblehead.

I never did find the Dunwich to be creepy. Did I miss something in there? blink.gif

Yes, I know itīs Lovecraft based now but I didnīt see any significant difference in there comparing to all the other dungeons.

Personally, I think the Dunwich is proper scary...I think I've been in twice; one with the ghoul mask and one without...I'm not sure it wasn't scarier when I didn't have to fight my way through...

That bit where the lighting changed and the hallucination happens...Scared the crap out of me the first time... blink.gif ...

As I'm easily led with these things, daughter is playing New Vegas at the mo...So I fired up the old FO3 save...

I appear to be just south of Oasis and am exploring/selling the detritus I pick up (having shot the crap out of any raiders/Talon that get in Arnaud's face) on the way...

I managed to find that dude that begins The Pitt DLC thing...I didn't want to do it, and it wouldn't let me back out of the convo...I switched it off...Hopefully my save isn't too far back from that...I can't remember... biggrin.gif ...

What I find creepy about the Dunwich Building is that the lighting is a lot lower than other places, combined with the sounds of the ferals hissing and growling the darkness. Then you hear the pat-pat-pat of their running feet, and a misshapen head leaps out of the darkness to bite you. For me, the Feral Ghouls are the creepiest monsters Bethesda has ever made. Not even so much for what they look like, but for what they sound like when you can't see them, but know they are out there.

Combine that with the sad story of Jaime searching for his father, only to find him turned into a ghoul. Then when he is going to leave, you can feel how the book - "It's warm against the stone" - keeps him there, and his voice changes to a ghoul's in his final recording.

I had a Wow moment earlier...

We went into D.C. proper and found a load of stuff around the Georgetown area...Killed a load of Super Mutant Overlords...Awesome!!...

But then we found a townhouse...Apparently owned by "the McClellans"...

Went in, found a deactivated Mr Handy, activated it...As you do...And one of the options you can take is, "Read a poem to the children."...

And, as all the other options looked likely to result in a fight or something...I chose the poem one...

So I followed it to the kids' room...Whereupon the Mr Handy proceeded to read the poem, "There Will Come Soft Rains." to a skeleton holding a teddy bear...

Fair dues...There's not often I'm actually moved by a computer game...But that was pretty damned heavy (an poignant) moment after spending the proceeding hour or so doing the simple "Blowing the crap out of things and collecting the stuff"...Y'know?...

After how long of playing this game, I'm pleased that it can still throw a proper awesome surprise at me...

I always found the robot singing to the dead children to be just as poignant, a wonderful epitaph to a long dead world.

Hidetaka was exploring near the Dunwich Building when she found a little campground with a big surprise. A Deathclaw. devilsmile.gif That was the first time I ever took a sword fighter vs. a Deathclaw. Hidetaka came out of it with a new Deathclaw Gauntlet, but it is not something I am looking forward to trying again soon!

Thanks for reminding me about that place. Now I remember what happened there smile.gif

I chose "Go to the market" or something which got it destroyed. Wish I had chosen the poem too kvleft.gif

I saved Oda Hidetaka's adventure in the Dunwich Building for posterity:

The Dunwich Building Part 1

The Dunwich Building Part 2

I tried to get back into Fallout 3 today after six months absence but I simply couldnīt do it. Though I did start out badly; I found myself somewhere in the wasteland with a bunch of things I didnīt know why I carried and with merchants out of caps and with no goal in mind. So I ditched it in favor of Oblivion again. I need to want to play and I need a set goal before I can start it up again...

That is one reason I create so many characters. I have the same problem whenever I try to go back to playing someone I have not touched in months. I cannot remember where they have been, what they were doing, and so on. So I almost always create a new character instead, and get a fresh start.

Yeah, I guess thatīs one reason to make new characters. But I canīt do that since it still wouldnīt be the same new experience for me as it was when I first set off.

You ever go back to your old characters sometimes?

Only rarely. Sometimes I still go back to Aela and Astarte in Oblivion, and I have gone back to Persehpone once in Skyrim. Who knows, I might try her again sometime too.

I can't remember if this one is my second or third Arnaud...I know this is the first one to do the main quest and Broken Steel...

Anyways, we're halfway through level 29, so that's going to be interesting to actually get to the level cap...

He's 100 on guns, medicine, lockpick and science...Oh, and repair...

The others are not essential...I might get sneak up to 100 on the next - and final - level up...But it's not exactly like he's particularly troubled by much anymore... biggrin.gif ...

We've been ambling about the Metro in D.C...Y'know, get out of station, go find the stuff around about (including "Dungeon crawl"™ ) and then go back into station to continue to next bit...Much fun...Though there's far too many Super Mutant Overlords these days...Oh and Sentry-Bots...Not exactly difficult...But they far too stubbornly cling to life, y'know?... biggrin.gif ...

I can't see me starting again for a good long while...

And, having watched the Daughter (and now the Boy too) play New Vegas, I can't see me ever starting on that ever again...There's just too many damned quests... laugh.gif ...

The Antagonizer is my only character to ever get near that high, and she was only at level 28 when I last played her. I seem to recall lots of albino radscorpions and overlords in her games as well. But she was so uber by then that even Deathclaws were no sweat.

I usually use a mod that reduces the amount of experience points you get. That way I almost never see albinos and the like.
