They're tougher in New Vegas, here are their stats for the standard variant in NV and FO3. And there are plenty of other variants, like a blind deathclaw, baby deathclaw, young deathclaw, alpha male deathclaw, mother deathclaw, holy mother deathclaw, Mother Teresa Deathclaw, Virgin Mary Deathclaw and so on...

Another thing what makes them tougher in NV is that they're heavily resistant to common bullets, they're more susceptible to hollow point bullets but these aren't so easy to come by and are expensive. Still, a good weapon can eradicate them easily, no matter the bullets. And as SubRosa says, they come in packs, there is never just one deathclaw in NV - where there's one, there are probably a dozen more nearby.

EDIT: I found a great mod today, one that makes a screen darker when sunglasses are equipped. So now sunglasses finally have some meaning, protecting Goodman's eyes from the merciless Sun.

A mechanic and a gentleman travelled the wastes together, trying to impress each other with their gun skills. There was an informal competition going on between them, namely which of them can gun more enemies down quicker and with lesser bullets. At first the mechanic (Raul) was winning but because the gentleman's (Goodman) ego could hardy allow that to happen, he did his best and now they were getting even. What they both agree upon, is that Raul is quicker while Goodman is more accurate. But if it happened that they both shot an enemy at the same time, they had an endless debate about whose shot was fatal.

"Gee, boss, I got that one good, didn't it?" said Raul with his harsh voice.


"You sure did. But that was AFTER my bullet penetrated its chest, Raul."


"I don't think so, boss. It was your bullet that hit him after mine. I saw it."


"You mentioned the other day that you have a cataract, Raul, so I'm not sure how much do you actually see."


"Gee, boss, I'm not sure how much can you see through these sunglasses either."


"You have sunglasses as well. And a cataract. And let me assure you I can see just fine, my Mexican friend. I know that it was my bullet that ended this raider's life."

"And I know that it was mine, boss."

"It's good to know that we both know. But I know that you know that it was me who finished off that raider."

"No, no, no, boss..."

And so on, and so on...despite their competition, the gunslingers went along well and both of them knew that it was easier to survive in the Wasteland with an extra pair of eyes and an additional gun. Right now they're in Novac, trying to help Bright's Cult on the Great Journey. They're doing it on a behalf of Manny Vargas, a sniper in Novac, who promised to tell Goodman about his attackers if he'll get rid of the ghouls nearby.

Ha ha I imagine the voice of Goodman to sound like Bogart, or somebody with 'class' from the old days. He talks in one of those old-fashioned Hollyweird voices.

Unfortunately Goodman died today. But he was a special character so he deserves one final story.

Goodman and Raul were tracking down a man that has been attacking caravans east of New Vegas. They didn't pay enough attention to their surroundings but suddenly ground around them started to shake. As they turned around, they saw two ferocious deathclaws running at them. Things went well at the beginning, Goodman equipped the Ferguson Rifle and was shooting one of the deathclaws while moving backwards. Raul took care of the other one and it seemed that it was over. But then Raul turned around and saw two more deathclaws descending down the cliffs, straight behind Goodman's back. He warned his boss but it was too late - when Goodman turned around, he managed to fire a few more shots into the beast, but he stood no chance against the two of them. Before falling to the ground, he managed to shoot one more time, successfully killing one of the deathclaws. Raul finished off the second one and then hurried to his boss. But it was too late - Goodman was covered in blood, his fine clothes torn, his sunglasses broken - his boss was dead, and there was nothing he could do. Nothing except to bury him. He dug up a small grave and gently put his former boss into it. He covered it with soil and rocks, to keep it protected from predators. It's hard to say whether Raul was crying or not because he was wearing the sunglasses which Goodman gave to him as a gift. He was standing at his grave for some time, thinking about his time spent with the gentleman and then headed back west.

Another life was lost in the Wasteland.
Another man will soon be forgotten.
By all, except Raul Tejada.

Aww, poor Goodman. RIP.

Joe King is doing well. During yesterday's session he was scouring the subway system looking for molerats to add to his tally for Moira, when he saw the shadow of a super mutant. The damn thing was just standing there near some escalator steps. Joe managed to sneak up on it, aimed for his head with his hunting rifle, and 1-shotted that sucker! .. Ahh that felt good! Again, we aimed while not using VATS, so it was particularly satisfying.

It´s the valley to the northwest of the map.

I never thought of it that way. But I can see your point. The river if packed with 'lurks. And the Deathclaw Sanctuary is up on the heights on the eastern side. I think that satellite station with the orbital weapon is over there too.

I´ve only seen tmar call it that but I thought it´s a good name for it

That explains why I didn't find it in the Wiki.

It happens extremely rarely but it happens - my new protagonist in New Vegas is a woman. This is my second woman in New Vegas (the first one was Sylvia in 2010) and my 3rd woman in my overall gaming history (I only had one more woman in Morrowind). I may have had a few test characters here and there, that were women but they weren't serious characters. Anyway...

Blondie has been many things – a bouncer, a caravan guard, a courier, a hooker, a mercenary, a scavenger, maybe even a raider.

Yet she hasn't been one thing. She hasn't been shot in the head.

Until now.

Now this changed and she can add another unforgettable experience to her not-so-cheery life. But she survived it and now she's relentlessly pursuing her attackers - a man in a checkered suit with a shining pistol and his thugs. Once she finds the man in the suit, she'll "vaporize the mother-[censored]'s head and stuff his own cigs in his goo pile. 'cos nobody shoots Blondie in the head and lives to tell 'bout it."

Before leaving Goodsprings, she helped Ringo defend against Powder Gangers. In fact the entire town was under attack but most residents locked inside their houses and waited for Blondie, Ringo and Sunny to deal with the Powder Gangers. "Brahmin [censored] is more worth than this [censored] Goodsprings. 'cept the old Doc and Sunny, the rest are miserable selfish mother-[censored]," said Blondie after the fight was over because almost nobody from Goodsprings joined the fight.

With a bad taste in her mouth, she leaves Goodsprings, heading for Primm.

"Maybe it were better if I was dead.
But I ain't.
And now somebody has to pay. "

She has seen the lights of New Vegas, she has seen addicted gamblers winning & losing, she has seen debauchery and hypocrisy of the Strip, and now that she's seen it all, Blondie says:

"[censored] it. I prefer Wasteland."

She killed Benny, the man who tried to kill her, and that was it. She refuses to have anything to do with Mr House or anyone else at the Strip. There is something shady going on behind that glamour and Blondie wants none of it. She prefers wasteland, no matter how dangerous and unpredictable. She prefers running from a deathclaw than staying for one minute longer at the Strip. Before leaving, she caused a stir at the Strip. Not only did she kill Benny, one of the most influential people in Vegas, she also turned down Mr House's invitation by vaporizing his favorite robot, who despite saving her life, turned out to be a mechanical pawn in Mr House's scheme. She had to flee from the Strip, while several Mr House's robots were shooting at her but the second when she escaped from Vegas, she felt free once again.

Now she's back in the Wasteland, eager to do some bounty hunting. Unless necessary, she's not returning to the Strip.
