Our Blackberries are in, the best crop we've had in three years. Right now I am eating our very first cobbler of the season. As they ripen, they'll sweeten up; then I usually make some for the neighbors and give a quart of berries with each. Mmmmm good stuff!

Just the cobbler, but for the next month or so we will have blackberries in our pancakes and sweet biscuits, over ice cream, etc - Our blueberries didn't come in this year, that is usually our biggest seller.

Urgh, why do I forget never to look at the comments on anything that pops up on Yahoo.

The links aren't the problem. But everyone who comments on them seems to be one form of bigot or another.

It makes me feel sick everytime I see it.

I know what you mean. People seem to look for reasons to hate others no matter how little (or no) cause given. It is a poison that eats through any good sense they ever had. The worst part of it is, it is in all of us; even those who have been victims of bigotry have their own prejudices too. I guess it is a part of being human, but a very ugly part.

It is humanity's greatest weakness. We are all different from one another, yet so many seem intent on dragging everyone down to their version of what's right. They're all too busy focusing on how we're different to remember that we're all the same. Those differences scare them, because they don't understand them. And that fear makes them feel weak, so they turn that fear to hatred, because it lets them lie to themselves and pretend that they are strong. (Which is what creates so many bloody fanatics.)

Yet they forget that it is those people who are different; the oddballs, the nonconformists, the ones who look beyond what is simply presented to them, that have brought humanity this far. Without all that makes us different, there would be nothing in human existence worth celebrating or remembering, nothing worth passing forwards to future generations, because nothing would ever change.

It is a truly depressing thought


On a more cheerful note, I'm writing a little short story that came to mind.

I think as our society nowadays is so over-sensitive to the point we can no longer speak our minds about things, even if those opinions aren´t really evil at all to begin with, comment sections on Yahoo and Youtube have become outlets for that. Fail-safe valves if you will, to let the steam out. And as people have become more and more suppressed, they become ever so hostile and fierce whenever an opportunity to release some steam appears. If things weren´t so sensitive, people wouldn´t be so hostile in those comment sections. They´re not bad people, really. But we tend to exaggerate when we have a chance.

How do I know this? Well, because once I too was one of those commentators on Youtube who tend to let some steam out...

No, don't retract it. It is great stuff, and needs to be said. These are crucial points that people need to remember; because they are too easily forgotten or pushed to the side.

It is okay to get serious on here, it is our place to talk about what is on our minds.












Something about the anonymity of the internet creates an environment where people feel it is okay to say or do things they never would dare to in their real lives; as if because no one knows who they really are that they can be free to be horrible to another person. It makes me sick inside sometimes to see how people treat one another on the internet.

Me personally, I try to treat people on here as if I was seeing them in person. It opens me up for some bad ones, but it also opens me up for meeting and really getting to know the good ones, and there are good ones out there; even if they are few and far between.

I must say I don´t do that anymore. It´s not that I wanted to be a jerk to anyone, it was all about letting out steam. But I have stopped doing that and I think more before I type. Not that I comment youtube vids anymore, but still

When they're commenting on a news item just to flood the web with mindless hate and bigotry, directed at a group of people, it's more than just letting off steam. Some of the crap they come out with is vile and despicable, posted by people who don't want to understand because it would challenge their worldview too much. It's not one or two people replying like that, it's literally dozens of them, all feeding off of each other's hate.

That's what gets me, it's not just what they're saying, it's the bigots camping out for a circlejerk that makes me sick.

I usually don't read the comments on YouTube, but have seen what you are talking about on a couple other sites; and you are right about the feeling they give off - like they feed on the antagonism they roil and do everything they can to keep it going like they just crave the attention regardless how bad it makes them look.

I tend to avoid youtube, too damaging to my datacap

But it's things like this that make me wonder at humanity's chances...

There are a lot more signs than that to make someone worry about where our future might be heading; but the (self) destruction or implosion of mankind is most likely to see its end long enough after our lifetimes that we won't be here to see it; (and I doubt our children will either).

Well, humanity might prove tough to kill, even for humanity. There are certainly no shortage of cockroaches going round that look human, after all But the stuff we lose now, we've got no chance of recovering if we do.

Yeah, like our integrity, ethics, morality? I agree with everything you've said, and you had me rolling at the human cockroaches, lol.
