Er, what happened to Sarah?

From the Wiki (if Broken Steel is installed):

If the player activates the purifier himself/herself, or uses Fawkes, Sergeant RL-3 or Charon to start it; it is revealed that an energy spike knocked Sarah and the Lone Wanderer out. Two weeks later after the Lone Wanderer wakes up, she's still in a coma, "unresponsive but stable".

I didn't remember that! Thanks!

Last night I rebooted Hecate. I am using Traits Project with her, and took the Small Frame and Four Eyes traits for her. (Small Frame gives a +1 to Agility at a cost of -25 Carry Capacity, while Four Eyes gives a +1 to Per so long as she is wearing glasses, but a -1 if she is not).

As her namesake, Hecate is a Far-Darter. But I am not sure if I want to continue using the M110 Sniper Rifle with her. I just ported Millenia's Colt M4A1 mod from FONV to FO3. In the process I created a pair of Marksman Rifles which are only semi-automatic, but have zero spread and a high rate of fire for a semi-auto.

So I have to decide if I want to keep her a long range, silent killing machine? Or a medium range marksman?

Or perhaps I should save to M4s for a future character? Perhaps one day I might bring Annie Ley Oak to the Capital Wasteland?

QUOTE(Lopov @ Jul 11 2015, 03:25 PM) *

I had the Firelance random encounter occur today, which is supposedly the most rare RE in Fallout 3. Well, it happened to me for the first time and I've been playing this game for many hours, so it must be rare indeed. It happened close to the Montgomery County Reservoir, there was an explosion just above Marl's head and alien power cells began falling from the sky and he also saw a weapon falling amid them. It wasn't difficult to find it afterwards. So Sally's got a new gun now.

I used to explore the Wasteland grid by grid starting with zone One; and in the stretch of road between Raven Rock and that Power Station I used to get Firelance every single time. The times I've played when I didn't go there early I have yet to get it, though a couple games ago I did find a lot of Alien Power Cells around and on top of a building in the southern end of the map.

One thing that I noticed this last game was that they lowered the DR on the other Alien gun from the 90's down to the 60's - what was that for? Was it over-powered? I very rarely used it because the Alien Ammo was so rare, but if they lower the DR I might as well not ever use it. Grrrr.

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Jul 11 2015, 03:38 PM) *

Wow, you are lucky. I have been playing the game for years on and off, and it has only happened two or perhaps three times.

QUOTE(treydog @ Jul 10 2015, 11:22 PM) *

When it came time to make a choice it was a "no-brainer" for Trey (sorry- couldn't resist). First- a deal is a deal- he had agreed to help Desmond. Second- Calvert was responsible for killing Desmond's dogs, which automatically consigns him to a Circle of Hell. And finally- although Des is a ghoul- how can you really trust a disembodied brain?

I have only done the Point Lookout main quest twice, and each time my characters killed Desmond and Calvert. Calvert because he is obviously a psycho brain in a jar, and Desmond because he is an a-hole who gives my characters lip. No one trash talks Molly Hatchet and lives! biggrin.gif

Same here, they both die in the end and my character walks with the stash.

QUOTE(Winter Wolf @ Jul 11 2015, 07:55 PM) *

I have been lucky to get the Firelance™ on most characters. Sometimes it does take a heap of hours if you are not reloading a save before you reach a known location. Rarely have I managed to find all the cells though. The one down at the Alexandria Arms threw the cells all over the top of the building. Unfortunately that was on 360.

One encounter I do not think I have seen is the one with Amata or Susie Mack. The game guide says you can meet them out in the wasteland if they survive the early part. Not sure about that.

To meet Amata in the Wasteland you have to choose to open up Vault 101 in that later quest so that people can leave; then Amata leaves the vault and promptly gets killed by the Enclave in front of the Player. I always choose to make them stay shut up in the vault, (for that reason).

I encountered Susie Mack in Billy Bob's game, since he was my second character that did the MQ. However, when he found her, she was already dead, killed by some radscorpions IIRC. She is supposed to give you some purified water if alive.

Speaking of rare encounters, Uncle Leo comes to my mind. I only encountered him once, again in Billy Bob's game, close to Megaton but he never moved from there, even after many hours he was still standing in that place and didn't have nothing new to say.

I've run into Uncle Leo several times in varied places, but not every game. Once he helped Misa fight raiders at that dock below the Satcom Arrays and died, I had to reload a save and head him off to keep him alive, lol.

Hectate, look at you! Gotta catch my breath. wub.gif

I would say she should go for medium-range marksman. I think that it might enhance her roleplay if the NPCs she's dealing occasionally see who they're dealing with.

Hey you all, whoever you are out there listening to this. Cho here. In some sort of secret hideout place. Very safe. I feel safe here. I'm with a group called the "outcasts". They live ... they have an underground home, sort of like Vault 101. Very high tech. I was glad to meet them, especially after days and days of dusty, dirty wasteland. But there's a problem. Break.

They look at me, they look at my Pipboy, and then they're like "oh, hey, you can do us a favor, because you've got this [censored] computer on your arm." I mean, I just [censored] got here, literally a couple hours ago, and they want me to get into this stupid pod, which will put me in God knows where. They said something about Alaska. Why the [censored] would I want to go there? .... I'm not going there. Break.

I'm not going. I'm taking off this stupid white suit they put me in. Getting back into my dusty Talon armor. My Talon armor is tougher anyways.

Those screens and talk of mods makes me want to hunt out my PC version Vault-Tec lunchbox...

My previous computer's graphics card had fried itself (and the computer) about the time I got the lunchbox, so I never played on the PC...

But anyway, back in 360-land....

Trey has been trying to explore everywhere that he had not previously. He ran into a lot of (now formerly-living) super-mutants in the Vernon Square area. And watched a 3-sided fight around the Capitol building. Hard to decide who to help- Talon Company, Enclave, or Super-Mutants... Actually more a matter of who to shoot first... decisions, decisions....

After all that, Trey went back to the Citadel and the supercilious Scribe Rothchild... who sent him over to the Rockland Tunnel to meet Tristan and see what the Enclave is up to. Given that it involved killing a lot of Enclave troops, it seemed like a good thing to do, even if Rothchild looks like he's smelling something bad every time he talks to Trey...

After that bit of exploring (and shooting lots and lots of people in the helmets), Tristan asked Trey to head up to Old Olney- otherwise known as Deathclaw Central.... However, one of the scribes had developed some tech that should cause the "tame" Deathclaws to think Trey is their mommy- or something. But if it means they will rip Enclave bastards to shreds- sounds good.

That is awesome that you found her! I would love to have that encounter just once. Wait, I guess it is not cool as the poor girl was found dead...oh well, such is the harsh nature of the wasteland!

Ahh, that explains that then. Trouble is I can ever remember what action I took back in the second visit to 101. I have no idea if I have played out all the different variants on the quest line. Lol.

If in doubt just use the MIRV. It takes all decision making out of your hands. biggrin.gif

Wow. Love Annie Ley Oak. Looks like SubRosa has another character that I need to give a wide berth. Lol. Have you ever played any non-Terminator character? Like a low intelligence male that runs head on into battle and gets wiped out in 1 second. Kind of like Jericho... laugh.gif

I have just started a new playthru in NV (I couldn't wait any longer!) Elmer J Fudd is a former member of the NCR that retired into a lifestyle of alcohol, gambling and self pity. He watched the battle at the dam from afar and has decided that the 'young bucks' have no idea what they are doing and need to shape up. Naturally, the ten years of retirement have him out of shape, and he decided a regime of exercise would do him the world of good. Walking the wasteland as a courier seemed the best thing (the express building was just across the road from his favourite casino), but unfortunately things have not gone to plan...

Btw, I reckon some people enjoy Hardcore Mode when playing Fallout 3. Well, I wandered Old Olney today with half-broken weapons, over-encumbered and with three Stimpaks left. Howīs that for Hardcore mode? cool.gif

I enjoyed reading Cho's "opinion" about the Outcasts and how they look at him and see only the PipBoy on his hand. I think he actually saved most of their lives by jumping out of the "white suit" and leaving them alone.

@treydog - the best of luck to Trey on his trip to Old Olney. I guess that after his visit Old Olney will be called the Deathclaw Graveyard.

@Winter Wolf - nice to read that you hurried to the Mojave instead of waiting for October. Welcome to Elmer J. Fudd, love his name and the backstory. We want some pics. wink.gif

My next character in NV will probably be an old grizzled bounty hunter, I'll replay New Vegas Bounties with him.

I know if you side with the Base Commander of the Vault that everyone stays locked in; if you side with Amata they get out; and I think if you side with Butch you kill everyone in the vault who doesn't escape and Butch becomes a hairdresser in Rivet City and possibly your follower - or something like that. (plus I'm sure you get bad karma for killing the vault dwellers).

I remember there was one option I never tried, and that was to mess with the water system in the vault - I'm sure THAT wasn't Amata's idea, so I'm thinking it was Butch's.

I usually break into the first house in Minefield and drop what I don't absolutely need on the floor/corner of the child's bedroom upstairs - and sleep in that child's bed to heal and rest when needed. So far I've never lost a single item, even though I think some of the crafting stuff in the house resets.

There is food in all those houses if you are playing hardcore (also pre-war books and crafting supplies) - it is where my character usually lives until my explosives skill is high enough to disarm the bomb and earn the Megaton house.

Iīve become pretty accurate with grenades as of late. I enjoy throwing them over barricades and up on platforms on groups of enemies and Iīve noticed any follow-up with other weapons arenīt necessary so often anymore. The grenades hit their mark pretty nicely smile.gif

Hmm. Grenades are so hit or miss for me. Great when they actually go where we want them to. Guess I'm not so good at aiming with them. Blowing up bots is my favorite though!

For me, grenades are actually deadlier than wielding the Fatman; but I don't think mine ever worked that good without the explosive perks that increase the damage. After getting three levels of that perk, I got pretty deadly with them - and it is a blast to see parts flying in the air! But I never got good enough with the aiming to never have to pull out another weapon, unfortunately. I usually ended up surrounded and getting beat up while I switched back to my gun, lol.

@ Renee - blowing up a bot sounds Awesome! I have not ever done it, now I'll have to try it!

I am horrible at throwing grenades. They always go rolling fifty feet past whoever I am aiming at before they explode. One thing I like about New Vegas is that when you use grenades in VATS, they always drop right at your target's feet.

Same here in FO3, lol. I'm def going to try that then in NV, I only remember using dynamite a few times in NV, can't remember why I didn't use it more often.
