Lopov: Okay, I didn't know there was an option not to travel with him. RP-wise, it makes more sense to travel with the guy. For one thing, this is what a son should do, right? For another thing, this is literally the first time Cho (or any of mine) have been accompanied by an NPC, so I was kind of psyched for this portion of the quest at first.

mALX: Oh, I know he's essential, he's gone unconscious at least a dozen times by now! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(mALX @ Nov 15 2015, 10:14 PM) *

What I have done in the past is to clear out the two major raider camps he has to cross in the middle of before going to rescue Dad from Vault 112/Tranquility Lane.

This would work if I knew what was in store beforehand; if I ever do this quest again I'll definitely clear some areas, 'cause dad don't know the Wasteland like Cho does. It just mystifies me that Beth didn't include a "Wait here" option, or an option to share items from son to father. Because Dad leaves the place with some sort of lazer pistol apparently, but this has already run out of ammo, which means every fight he has is now hand-to-hand. indifferent.gif

This! Every time you approach him to offer armor or weapons, he runs. They give you no opportunity whatsoever to give him a weapon or ammo. He always runs out before the trip is over and ends up in hand to hand combat.

I wondered if I could get ahead of him and drop a weapon, but the faster I went = the faster he ran to stay in front of me. And dropping a weapon at his feet while he was in combat with a Raider - the Raider picked up the weapon and used it on Daddy James. Urk.

So yeah, as fun as that run with Daddy is, I would have appreciated Beth giving us the option of arming him better.

SubRosa may know; is there a way to console give him some better weapon?

I'm on Xbox, hon. If this was on PC believe me I'd be messing with Daddy's AI. hehe.gif

That does seem rather bizarre how Beth programmed him though: we run toward him, he runs away. *facepalm* Does Cho have B.O. or something?

In Hecate's game I did use the console to give Daddy James a .44 Magnum and the Armored Vault Suit. He was kicking Raider ass! laugh.gif

It's a simple command. Open the console, click on someone to select them, and type in:
OpenTeammateInventory 1

It gives you access to their inventory, and allows you to move things back and forth between yours and theirs.

Ooh, is that an AR15? cool.gif

Thanks for the tip, SubRosa! I may apply that to certain NPCs in my game biggrin.gif

That wasn't an AR-15, but Hecate's M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Weapon System

Fired up Fallout New Vegas this evening, rolled up a new character.

I'd forgotten how limited the Fallout character creation is, especially compared to Oblivion or Dragon Age Origins, so no picture because I just couldn't get the face right.

So, his name's Einar, and he's a Tinkerer, a tech junkie; energy weapons, repair, and science. His only standout stat is intelligence at 8, the rest are at 6, save for perception at five and charisma at four. He's got four eyes and good natured, and picked up intensive training(agility) at level 2.

So far, he's not really gotten up to a whole lot. He's gone through the tutorial bit, and wandered into Goodsprings Cave, where he found a somewhat battered recharger rifle, which is handy. He's not managed much else at this point. He doesn't remember much about why he was shot or what he did before waking up in Doc Mitchell's place, and he doesn't much like Goodsprings; not enough tech around, apart from Victor or course.

I'd like some techie to take Victor apart, laugh.gif I have tried many times, he can't be disabled until you get rid of his boss; then he disables himself right in front of "His" shack (which my character has taken over for her own use, lol).

Einar? Shouldn't he be a one-eyed Viking? wink.gif

I always felt really limited by the race choices of the Fallout games. You can play a human, a human, a human - or just for something different - a human! After going from the ES games where you have 10 races to choose from, the difference really is glaring.

Although they are still human; I would like to be able to be a Foresworn Tribal; which is one of the reasons Maxical and Misa were always seen in only the Foresworn armor after I got my first set of it. The set Misa is wearing is the first set Maxical ever got in game. When I changed her to Misa she kept it, and continued the roleplay of being connected to the tribe.

Aren't there other races via mods though? Actually, Fallout is the first game which I've gotten a choice for Asian or Hispanic characters, and as you may remember, I was desperately trying to create an Asian-looking female in Oblivion a few years ago, without success. So I like this aspect of Fallout.

Urgh. Einar's save got corrupted somehow, so I had to go right back. Decided to change him up though, he's still a tech junkie, but now he's a mercenary. Same skillset, firmly maintains that superior tech gives an edge.

I actually restarted to give him a new face. Funnily enough, randomising the face allows for a lot of variation that the player doesn't have access to, and seems to be independent of the actual face sliders.

Well, that just comes down to the setting really. I mean, your only real options would be human or ghoul. Slightly irritating, but what can you do?

*Tips pre-war hat*

Log commencing...

...

Testing, testing... Good, it's recording.

Location, a town named Goodsprings. Date... I'm not too certain right now. Hang on, apparently it's 10.19.81. This Pipboy gets more useful by the moment.

If you're reading this, it's because I'm dead. If you're the one who killed me, you'd better make damn sure I'm dead. I've crawled out of one grave already. If not, you're in for an interesting story, or so I'd hope, at any rate.

First thing first: Memo to self; getting shot in the head is a bitch. Do NOT let it happen again.

I can't remember who paid me to deliver that platinum chip, if I even knew in the first place. I only know about it because of the note that I had on me. Seems it's the only thing I was left with, save for a couple of bullets. I thought courier work would make for a nice change of pace, a break from prospecting or defending caravans, comparatively safe by comparison. That idea ended with me being ambushed, shot twice in the head, and left for dead. And whatever bastards did it took all my gear too. Some robot that set himself up in town years back dug me out of the grave they'd left me in, hauled me over to Doc Mitchell.

He's a good man, and obviously a damn good doctor, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make this log. Patched me up, must've rebuilt my skull in the process, since I can't find any soft spots. Even managed to avoid shaving my hair off too, which is nice. A couple of the others in town helped me get back on my feet, Sunny Smiles even gave me some pointers on survival and the like. I'd been reliant on my gear, and that's long gone by now. Sunny's a curious girl, doesn't really live up to her name, but she looks good in leather, so that's okay.

I've managed to get a couple of guns at least, Doc Mitchell gave a laser pistol and some ammo, along with this Pipboy. And when I was checking out a nearby cave I found a dead ghoul carrying a recharger rifle. It doesn't hit much harder than the pistol, but it makes its own ammo, so it's cheaper to use right now. Seems like I got back on my feet just in time.

It turns out they're having some trouble coming their way. They sheltered a trader whose caravan got hit, and some people took exception to that. A bunch of convicts, managed to overwhelm their guards and have set themselves up as some kind of gang. They're leaning on the people here pretty hard, trying to frighten them into handing the trader over. Chances are they'll go for the town either way.

I owe these people. A debt's gotta be repaid. This seems as good a time as any.

The thing is, the Asian, Latin, African, Caucasian are all the same. There are some slight differences in the base facial morph, and some differences in the color textures. But aside from appearance, there is absolutely no difference between playing an Asian from playing a Latina. OTOH, in the ES games there is a difference between playing a Breton and a Nord - Magic Resistance vs Cold Resistance. In Oblivion the Breton was the Min/Maxer's race of choice because the 50% Magic Resistance + the Mundane Ring made you immune from magic.

Nice, a Callidus Thorn update! The text is too light for me to see against Chorrol's beige background; I had to copy/paste it to Notepad so I could read it. It's fun to read though, as always.

Yeah, and really - Daddy James just didn't cut it as Black, Asian, or even Hispanic. His voice just didn't suit the changes in race, nor did they go all out changing his facial features to match the race he was supposed to be; which would have been nice.

Now, in FO4; I wish they had given a choice to use the same voice actor for the male Player as they used for Joe Cobb in NV. His voice was great; and personally - preferable, imho.

I would have liked to have gone with a lighter green on a black background, but unfortunately that's not an option. I'll try a darker shade of green and if that's still too light, I'll just drop the colour change.

Location: Goodsprings. Date: 10.20.81

Goodsprings might be a friendly town, but when it comes down to it, there's steel just below the surface.

I spoke to the trader, name of Ringo. Seems these convicts, calling themselves Powder Gangers, decided that everything in the vicinity's there turf, and took exception to his caravan passing through. They opened fire without warning, so he told it, and I'm inclined to believe him. I doubt many'd hold it against a person for refusing to pay escaped convicts for safe passage. Since I owe Goodsprings, and it was gonna come down on them one way or another, I offered to help out. Ringo asked me to ask the others in town, try and drum up their support. e suggested I start with Sunny Smiles.

Sunny is my kinda woman. Smart enough to know the fight'd come their way sooner or later, and brave enough to pick sooner. It's almost a good thing that she's not into guys, or I'd be sorely tempted to stay, especially f I could get in on the rest of that action. With Sunny on board, it was easy to talk Trudy into it, and she could handle most of the rest. I got Doc Mitchell to donate supplies, and talked the local storeowner, Chet, to divvy up some leather armour he'd gotten in stock recently. Managed to get one of the better sets for myself of course.

The Powder Gangers turned up around sunset; six of them with a motley assortment of weapon, two of them didn't even have guns, and only their leader was armoured. The people of Goodsprings, with my assistance, took them down without any real casualties. A couple of people had some holes that the Doc needed to patch, but if he can put a man back on his feet with two bullets in his head, they weren't in any danger of dying.

The good people of Goodsprings didn't even mind me gathering up the guns the Powder Gangers carried after the fight, Chet even gave me a good price for them, and let me keep the armour. He also managed to dig out a plasma pistol he'd picked up from somewhere or other. It's not in the best shape, but it's serviceable, and it was cheap. Ringo gave me some caps as payment for my help, and promised me even more if I swing by the Crimson Caravan Company building, wherever that is.

Victor, the robot that dug me outta the grave, didn't show up for the fight, even though he'd said he would. I got him to let me take a look at him, and it turned out someone had sent an override signal to shut him down. I don't know who wanted to keep him out of the fight, but I'm wondering if that same person was responsible for Victor finding me that night. Anything else just seems a little too convenient, particularly for a man who's been shot twice in the head recently. It's not like I'm on a winning streak right now, though I suppose things can only get better from the grave.

Tomorrow I'll be heading out. Next stop's a nearby town by the name of Primm. I'm hoping someone there might be able to tell me something more about the people I'm looking for.

Well, for someone with sight issues the black background with light lettering is always a strain on the eyes, but this green on beige is just un-seeable.

On beige, red or black lettering can be seen best; at least for me. Or a dark blue. The green gets washed out unless you use quotes around it so it is against a white background.

But since I can't read big areas of print anyway, don't change it on my account.
