l played Oblivion since 2006 - never had that happen. How do you fix it?

You´ve never had fire/spell/door animation freeze in Maxical´s game? That´s odd. It usually happens after 200-300 hours or so.

I fix it using a program I downloaded years ago, others fix it via Wrye Bash. No fix on consoles though kvleft.gif

Maybe it is because on the PC I spend most of my time modding and not playing; or that I've had to reinstall the game so many times from computer crashes. But my first game on the console was well into 900 hours and I didn't have the problem on it either. I guess I was just lucky?

I think it has to do with the number of times you save so the more often you save, the more prone you are to encounter it. I think... kvright.gif

Maybe it was quick-saves that cause it, I know they caused other issues. But I never used quick-saves even once. Never had the problem on my console games or on the PC.

If it happens to me in my game I will most def PM you immediately on it !!! Both my and my son's 360s broke; and on the PC in Oblivion I used to just fiddle with making mods, haven't really even done that in a while other than Persephone's Tower so I could play with SubRosa and her character Persephone.

With Oblivion - I played so many games of it that I knew every enemy spawn point; every word of dialogue. I'm just taking a break from it so the next time I play it will feel fresh.

mALX: I think you were on Xbox as well as PC, right? You won't see the A-bomb on Xbox probably until after 400 hours per game. PC it happens more frequently, but I've noticed that it happens more with characters who use lots of magic. Each time we cast a spell with some sort of visual effect, this is what builds up the A-bomb counter thingie.

I see the Abomb more frequently on PC (maybe every 200 hours), but this is because we can add lots more stuff to the game which adds adds adds visual effects. But it's very easy to reset the counter on PC, it literally takes a few seconds.

That might be what kept me out of having problems; Maxical literally never used magic.

My decrepit avatar and Vilja stand in the foyer of Weye Manor, armed and armored, Wolfgang at their side. They are about to untether Groucho at the stable, mount, and begin their patrol of the Gold to Anvil, with stopover for package deliveries and lunch in Skingrad, and a brief pause to gather taxes-due at Gottshaw Inn. If he remembers, my avatar means to have Tamika remind him where she needs her wine crate delivered. They hope to reach their ultimate destination by bedtime. If not, they'll likely sleep at a roadside camp site.

Their return from Bravil was relatively uneventful. My avatar had thought to spend the night at their property in Faregyle, but elected to press on straight to Weye instead. They stopped only twice en route, once to dispose of two vermin near a pool-with-waterfall just off the Green, once to handle a bandit near Pell's Gate. The gang arrived home circa 2330. Late as it was, my avatar went straight to his bed, leaving Vilja to her own devices.

He woke circa 0545, breakfasted on ham, cheese, egg, muffin, fig and stout on his third-floor private balcony, changed into travel clothes, looked in on Vil (still asleep), crossed Lake Rumare afoot, picked up a Skingrad delivery assignment at the Waterfront Gold Horse Courier office, entered the City proper, dropped off gathered tax at White Gold Tower census office, accepted a Gottshaw Inn tax-warrant, grabbed their road patrol assignment, picked up a Skingrad shipping assignment from the Merchants Guild, exited the City, crossed Lake Rumare, gathered Vil and Wolfgang, and as stated above is about to depart with the gang for Anvil.

Mirocu - I hope Lothie enjoys the rest of his time in the IC. Next stop northward: Aleswell!

Decrepit - I have indeed missed your updates. What I have always admired about your game is that it so nicely supports a 'neverending' playthrough. A wonderful collection of repeatable taskings and a nice crew in support.

Onward to Aleswell for Lothran! It’s fun to follow his seasonal progress.

Decrepit, it’s great to hear that your Decrepit avatar and crew are keeping the roads clear and Tamika’s products distributed.

As is known his game is quite slow, but I like the feeling of building up to something. Even if it´s something that´s been done before.. biggrin.gif

Thanks for your interest in the gang's mundane affairs. smile.gif

My decrepit avatar and Vilja stand in the first-floor Foyer of Weye Manor, almost exactly where we left them last report. Only, in the interim they patrolled the Gold Anvil, traveled to Chorrol, and rode home, which they just entered when I left them to their own devices.

The first leg of their travels was eerily peaceful. Neither beast nor miscreant was encountered between Weye and Skringrad. Not a one. At Skingrad they delivered two packages, picked up two transport assignments to Anvil, ate lunch, and had Tamika remind them where her wine was to be delivered. This last proved to be Pell's Gate, which they had passed twice the day before! kvleft.gif Oh well, they can drop off the crate during their patrol of the Green to Leyawiin, which happens to be next on the rotation roster.

They were not so blessed during the second stage of their journey. Foes abounded. None posed a serious threat.

Not far outside Skingrad the gang encountered a road traveler, a member of the Fighters Guild, clad in civilian attire, a steel sword at his side. This seemed odd to my avatar, who asked to inspect his gear. It proved to be several pieces of leather damaged beyond wear. My avatar repaired and returned said items, a service he oft provides to travelers in need. All's well that ends well. Well, not quite. The guild member was traveling the same direction as they. He kept getting ahead of them, and running in to evil of every sort. A few such encounters later he was again clad in street attire. My avatar rummaged Groucho's packs, retrieved a complete set of mithril, including shield, and gave it to the man free of charge.

As planned, they stopped at Gottshaw to collect taxes-due. As almost never happens, Vilja was left outside with the animals. For whatever reason she bears a grudge against a poor refugee lad housed in the inn. It's best to keep the two separated, lest things turn unpleasant rather quickly.

After dropping off their two supply shipments in Anvil, they walked to Benirus Manor to find the door barred! Turns out my avatar let real-estate tax payments fall a week behind. He returned to the city gate and gave the guard on duty six week's worth of payments. The door was unbarred. They entered their abode. My avatar drank a grass of milk (along with a sweetroll) by the fireplace to ease his stomach, then hit the sack.

Next morning they rose, dressed, picked up two shipping assignment for Chorrol, ate breakfast at Count's Arms, rode to Chorrol, delivered packages, restocked their Seond-Hand Sales Shoppe with spoils from Groucho's packs, and returned to Weye. If all goes according to plan they will soon head out for the dinner in the Imperial City, unless they decide on the Wawnet instead.

Having the skills (and inventory mods) to repair the gear of fellow travelers is wonderful. I know Buffy will always repair the gear of Legion Riders after they help her on the road.

My decrepit avatar and Vilja stand inside the Inn of Ill Omen, where they collected taxes-due. They are about to exit the building and resume their patrol of the Green to Leyawiin. They have already delivered Tamika wines to Pell"s Gate. Next stop, Bravil for shipping deliveries and a lite meal.

As my avatar suspected, the patrol proper has been uneventful, they having cleared the Green between the Imperial City and Bravil only a few Nirn days prior. Things should get more lively, for good or ill, once they leave Bravil and enter the Barrowfields. They hope to reach their destination ere sleep overtakes them. If not, camping gear is stored on Groucho.

The night prior they walked to the Imperial City where they picked up shipping assignments, paid their respects to the Dragon Statue and renewed nearly expired blessings at the Temple of the One, and ate dinner at All Saints Inn. They were home slightly before 2200, allowing my avatar a full eight hours sleep.

He rose just before 0600, ate breakfast on his third-floor private balcony, dressed in travel attire and walked to White-Gold Tower. He handed in collected taxes, accepted a new tax warrant, changed into officially recognized Legion armor, accepted the Leyawiin Patrol, returned to Weye. Gathered Vil (who was just finishing breakfast with the Manor staff) and Wolfgang, untethered Groucho, mounted, and began their patrol.

Nothing new about any of this. Those familiar with my avatar can likely post an account of the gang's daily activities and, provided it's kept reasonably generic, be guarantied 90% accuracy. As all know, at this stage of his career he has become, above all else, a creature of habit.

One incident might be worth expanding on. Approaching White-Gold Tower he had a premonition that not all was well within. Though armored only in greaves and cuirass he brought his sword and shield to the ready, then entered . . . to be greeted by a battle between Tower Guards and bandits, with a goblin thrown in for good (or bad) measure. The raiders stood little chance, their corpses soon strewing the floor. My avatar healed two wounded guards, gave them first-looting rights (as is common practice) and continued on to the Census and Justice Departments. On his way out he gathered whatever worthwhile spoils the guards had left untouched, which seemed to have been most everything. He doesn't understand why they don't take at least some of the better gear for themselves, unless it is against regulation.

ACADIAN: As you prolly recall, it was you who turned me on to the inventory mod several years ago. smile.gif It has proved a great addition to my play-through, giving my avatar yet another useful function of the sort he is naturally inclined to perform.

Your avatar is not the only creature of habit, Decrepit. As you may have noticed over the years my Lothran always follows the same procedure when preparing for his winter stay in Bruma. He also has many other things he does on an annual basis, such as staying at Pale Pass over Christmas smile.gif

I´m glad he has the ability to foresee trouble! That´s a very useful skill that can aid him to a long life goodjob.gif

Back to Lothran who has just finished his first leg of the journey to Bruma and arrived at Aleswell. After just having been there a short while he was met with a frightened and heavily wounded Imperial mount. It turned back when he encounterd my Dunmer is if by saying "Help me, come this way!" Though Lothran was quick to respond, all it took for the chasing ogre was one more hit on the steed and its life was ended. Lothran made sure though the ogre wouldn´t live very much longer himself..

Special thanks to mALX who made the mod that disables many NPC:s to follow around! Among them is the Dunmer brother in Aleswell and I was ready to have Lothran use the demoralize spell to chase him off as per usual, then I noticed he didn´t follow around anymore and I remember he was added to the mod list happy.gif

Today whilst in Aleswell, Lothran took out a few undead in the nearby Fingerbowl Cave and re-visited Ancotar at his place down in the ruin. Otherwise it was a pretty uneventful day smile.gif

My decrepit avatar stands in Rockmilk Cave, having just reentered after loading Groucho with spoils looted from the corpses of criminal scum scattered throughout the nearer section of the caverns. (He SHOULD have cleared out the entire first level before I left him, but the game crashed while battling what would have been its final mob.) Wolfang and the mounts remain tethered at the Leyawiin stable. Vilja has been left to her own devices in the city.

The stretch of Green between Inn of Ill Omen and Bravil was a pleasure to traverse. Gorgeous scenery, perfect sunny weather, not a foe in sight. Bravil was Bravil. The Barrowfields were strangely peaceful . . . one troll near the sheep pens and a Dreugh just prior to the bridge that marks the Barrowfields' terminus. The sun was low in the sky as they crossed the bridge. Barely on its other side a drizzle set in. Within minutes rain was falling in sheets, and continued to do so the rest of their journey. They began to encounter will-o-the-wisps and dreugh. All were spotted in ample time for my avatar to bring them down at distance with his bow. Strangely, not a single outlaw was seen, not even in those places one expects them to lay in ambush.

They reached Leyawiin circa 2245, stabled their beasts, entered the city, delivered packages, and had a nightcap at Three Sisters Inn. (They had consumed a full meal in Bravil.) My avatar then walked Vil to her bed in the Mages Guild basement and backtracked to the Fighters Guild where he spent the night.

He rose circa 0600, dressed, breakfasted at Five Claws Lodge, untethered Groucho and walked to Rockmilk which, as you know, my avatar is currently in the process of cleansing.

My avatar hasn't passed by Aleswell in ever so long. He has no official reason to do so. It's on no patrol route. Nor is it a time-efficient pathway for shipping. Once in a blue moon he takes that stretch of Red-Ring on the return from Bruma, assuming he has no pressing business in the Imperial City so can travel straight to Weye. Even then there is little if any time savings over crossing the North Bridge and following Perimeter Road to Talos Bridge. Still, it wouldn't hurt him to clear that stretch of Red-Ring every now and again. But that is of course his business and none of mine.
