Never really was much of a bookworm when I was a kid, funnily enough. But when I read Rayden's Account, I was inspired so much that I began writing and reading. Yep, a fanfiction of the Elder Scrolls was what got me into this scene. You guys should check it out, it's probably around here somewhere.

For me, it was X3: Terran Conflict. Read a couple of fanfics over at the official forums for the game, tried writing a couple myself, and kept writing once I got back to playing Oblivion. This post has been edited by Callidus Thorn: Feb 10 2016, 03:08 PM

QUOTE(bobg @ Feb 8 2016, 08:50 PM) QUOTE(mALX @ Feb 8 2016, 08:54 PM) QUOTE(SubRosa @ Feb 8 2016, 06:50 PM) A pet ferret ought to take care of any pet mice you might have in the attic. Failing that, you might try an old priest and a young priest... By the look on my son's face, I think he thought a priest was needed too, From the size of the claws sound making the scurrying noises; it sounded big enough to be a raccoon. And in a separate incident: I caught a whole flock of birds making nests in the old insulation below the house; startled them into flight when I came around the corner. So - when the new insulation is put in, going to need to board over it. Might lay a rubber snake there too, lol. If it's racoons, be warned, they can lay down enough fertilizer in your attic to start a farm. It happened in an apartment complex I was staying in and they had to replace all the insulation. I have heard there are sonic emitters that will keep them away but I couldn't say for sure. I've heard about those sonic emitters; didn't realize they would work for something as large as a raccoon! But then if it does, it may bother my son's cat too. That cat is already bonkers without having sonic waves emitting around him - always bushing out all over and running around as if he's seen a ghost; and usually over nothing more than a person being in a room he is not used to seeing them in (like when my husband enters my son's room and gets on his computer - the cat acts like the sky is falling in, lol). But I do know about raccoon excrement. What we think was a family of raccoons pulled the vent cover off our RV and moved in a few winters ago and made an awful mess; and left so many droppings - it was disgusting.

The only problem is getting the 78 r.p.m. recordings. I inherited a bunch of 78 records decades ago - going to give them to my son to do what he will with, lol. The music = Benny Goodman; Glenn Miller; Count Basie; etc.

It has a usb cable which can record to a media recorder on your system. I have a Linux system so I use 'asunder' which is designed specifically for just that purpose but I think Windows Media Player would also capture your recordings. There is even software to reduce the 'pops' and 'crackles'. My wife has a lot of full operas and classical recordings but our apartment is so small you have to step outside to change your mind. Storage is a problem so now I am converting all the disks to digital. Then we will donate the LPs to the Goodwill.

At one point I had a similar program for Windows 95/98 that allowed you to capture recordings from a cassette player to .wav files. It used a standard audio cable that ran from the aux jack on your player to the microphone input on your sound card. At one time I had a ton of cassettes, so I used that to make .wavs (and from those make .mp3s) of all my music. It also had that algorithm to reduce the pops and hisses. The new forum I joined has one RP going on and to top it off, only a handful actually know how to properly do it. The rest are.. Well, they're in their own worlds trying to one up each other in flashback sequences that absolutely no one cares about. Ugh.

That sounds like the kind of thing that's fun to watch, but sucks to be involved in. My condolences.
