Really? I thought you'd enjoy a bit of "our" weather. tongue.gif Kidding.

Last time I was in England (as a teen in the 1980s) it was summer and there was a heat wave there. Which I found funny at the time because your "heatwave" is an average summer day for us.

They've gotten worse. We're now hotter than places we've got no business being hotter than. According to yesterday's paper, the southeast of England(where I am) is supposed to be hotter than LA today. panic.gif

Brilliant sunshine, no clouds, and a wall that catches the sun all day and turns into a space heater all combine to make me overheated and miserable. And tired, since I can't sleep properly in this heat. It's 28.5C(83F) in my living room at the moment, hotter still outside, and the temperature is still climbing. sad.gif

This is when you have Wifey or Mom stand over you waving a magazine all day so you can be more comfortable in your resting moments, laugh.gif

If you don't have Air Conditioning or fans; the way to handle that high heat indoors is to shower with a light set of clothing on (cotton is good if you have it), remain wet and dripping and go sit in your most comfortable place in the house that won't ruin for having water on it. The heat will evaporate the water, instantly cooling you off.

When you get dry and hot again = repeat. That is how it is done in the tropics; you use nature's built in cooling systems.

Er - HINT = don't play with electric outlets while dripping wet ...

^ yeah, what mALX says. Chances are you guys don't use AC in your homes in England, because most of the time this would be an unnecessary expense.

I can remember when I lived in Portland, Oregon (close to where Wyrd and Turija live) years ago. Heatwaves are rare in that area, and if they show up they only last 3 or 4 days. But during the first heatwave I experienced I was dying, because up til then the summer had been so mild (70s and 80s). I went to the store looking to buy an AC, and it was like I had to really search for a window unit, because most folks just tolerate it there!

It's all because when the British had an Empire, they neglected to bring Punka Wallahs back with them. Or else they did, but they opened Indian restaurants instead of continuing their regular trade. Press them back into service!

I lived my first couple years in Miami with no Air Conditioning at all = learned really fast how to keep from dying of the heat. On Miami Beach it was not unusual to see at least four deaths from heat exhaustion daily, although that was almost always elderly people.

Oh, and Thorney = hydrate with water or water based juices; NEVER use caffiene drinks in heat or you will pee and sweat out all the fluids in your system and dehydrate very quickly. Dehydration and high heat do not mix well; you can become seriously ill from the combination in a short period of time.

29.5C(85.1F) now, but the sun's starting to dip behind the houses so I think that's as hot as it'll get tonight. Or at least I hope it is. Either way, I think it's tie to turn my tower fan up to five.

And I am having the occasional cup of tea, since sweating does cool you down. But I've also got a plentiful supply of summer fruits squash on hand. It gets to room temperature absurdly quickly, so its sod all use in keeping me cool, but it keeps me hydrated. And is very nice.

Fortunately I've got plenty of books and my 3DS to distract me. I'd like to go on my 360, where an Oblivion character is being rather insistent about finally getting through the tutorial, but with the fan going the game just doesn't sound right.

Geez, if you need to drink hot tea to get a sweat going in those temps then you are probably already dehydrated! You won't need to sweat if you are evaporating shower water. Drink gatorade and eat bananas and/or strawberries to get your electrolytes balanced again; you are probably lacking sodium potassium and potassium chloride in your system; and will get ill more frequently until you get that balanced up.

When the temps drop at night you can open the windows to let the cool night breezes air the humidity from your house; just shut them up again before the heat of the day comes tomorrow.

Yeesh. Yikes. Yeah I think I'd just melt under those conditions.

Callidus: does the heat contain humidity? Or is it more of a dry heat? You can tell the difference by standing in shadow. If it's got humidity, you'll sweat no matter where you are. If it's drier, you'll at least feel nice and cool (minimal sweat, if any) in shadow areas.

It's humid enough to make the air feel pretty stuffy, but it's mostly a dry heat, thankfully.

And I really hate this house. I woke up this morning and it was still 28C in my living room ohmy.gif

Hi, this is Troy McClure.

I might remember him from such classics as "Honey, I shrunk the Miata" and "Where is my falafel?"

But later this evening I´m going on a ride on my bike again so I don´t really care biggrin.gif

Also, just destroyed the last bird house that was occupied solely by wasps. I say, that excavator can do so much more than just dig holes in the ground laugh.gif

You need incendiary bullets for taking down wasp nests, laugh.gif

So wait, did you drive up to the nest in the 'Cavator and whack it down? Does the 'Cavator have glass windows? Did the wasps swarm it? How did you keep from being stung?

We need more details, man! tongue.gif

Yes, door and window was shut and I even closed the fan holes in the cabin. And then I just did what you guessed; drove up and gave it a whack, then I smashed it open and drove off biggrin.gif

Yeah, I didn´t want to hang around so I parked it in the garage.

But the wasps didn´t care much for the cabin, they merely flew around the bucket a bit but never followed when I got out of there.

Think I´m gonna get Dad to remove the houses later as he´s not allergic.
