But the article you linked is (again) NASA saying something they can't prove. They believe it has happened; but think about how young/old the population of the world is; the technology to measure these things - and tell me how they can prove it has happened before? They can't, they have only the proof that it has been North since man first walked on this Earth. They theorize that some data they see may point to the polar reversal in the past; but have no way to prove that is the case.

So your argument is that because they haven't witnessed the occurrence firsthand it's impossible to prove? Because it strikes me that this is a fundamentally deadlocked argument. Without an in-depth understanding on the science involved, and a firsthand look at the evidence, it's impossible to make the claim one way or another.

QUOTE(mALX @ Jul 30 2016, 12:04 AM) *

On the others, I was not saying man caused anything; only that these events are happening regardless the cause. They plates shifting is a HUGE warning sign of instability at the Earth's core.

Not really, it just shows that the planet is geologically active, which is something we've known for a long time.

QUOTE(mALX @ Jul 30 2016, 12:04 AM) *

As far as the tone of the people and predictions and theories = exactly how I feel about it; although I wasn't talking about people saying the end of the world is near. I was talking about the implosion of morality and ethics in recent decades.

I don't think morality and ethics have ever been particularly stable for any length of time. As much as people like to present them as absolutes, it invariably comes down to the yardstick you measure them against.

Exactly what I'm saying. We don't even know how old the Earth is because they dated it using Carbon 14; which has been dis-proven. So I don't listen to the scientists when they claim something happened 600,000 years ago any more than I listen to any of the end world theories.

Like I said above: I don't think we have anything to worry about in our lifetimes, but I also don't believe the Earth will be around forever. I was just stating how I feel about it, not trying to sway anyone's opinion. This is just my opinion (and I don't expect or feel like anyone has to agree with me, either; it is just the way I look at it).

(and the only yardstick I'm basing the decay in morals/ethics/etc. on is the past history based on the part of the world I know best; the U.S.A. It isn't just the rise in crime and terrorism; it is the total lack of empathy for others, the rampant attitude of entitlement; narcissism; etc)

What a morning! Woke circa 0225. Crawled out of bed circa 0330. Hobbled to the "computer room". Turned on the computer. Booted Windows. Prepared to do a little web surfing before beginning my morning TMJ exercises/stretches. So far same-old same-old daily routine.

All of a sudden an "X" appears atop my taskbar Avast icon. I launch Avast. It tells me its protections are deactivated. My first thought is that it's a boot goof-up, as occasionally happens. I restart Windows. All's well for some seconds, then the "X" appears again. I launch Avast. It tells me its protections are deactivated. I press the provided ACTIVATE button. Nothing happens. I reboot into Windows. All's well for some seconds, then the "X" reappears. Yada yada.

I don't dare risk doing anything more on the computer, so shut it down and fire up my secondary machine, whose Avast install has not been updated to the latest version (though all definitions are up-to-date). Success! I recall that there is an Avast forum, launch Firefox, search for, find, and visit forum. Turns out its an issue with the latest update, which I had installed on my primary computer only last night (but which did not cause issues until today). A fix was in the works but not yet available.

I then realize it is now past time to begin my morning TMJ routine. I almost always do my routine(s) watching YouTube videos to make the drudgery bearable. A stumbling block... my secondary computer has no audio speakers but only headphones. Since contracting TMJ Syndrome I can not wear headphones, doing so causing much pain in my right ear, pain that can linger for hours and possibly days. The solution: I search for episode one of a foreign-language Daggerfall LP, since watching it sans sound is no big loss. Find one. Begin my TMJ routine. (The LP, judging solely by what I saw of episode one, looks to be decent. I might watch more of it later on...with sound.)

Because of late routine start breakfast was also late. No big deal. Finished it. (Gotta love banana, toast with sugar-free preserves and butter substitute, and skim milk!) Did my morning medicated inhaler treatment. Did my final early-morning TMJ stretches. Decided to pass time at Chorrol, maybe do some posting.

Next SNAFU... log-in info on my secondary computer pre-dates me joining this forum late last year. I could have gotten needed info from my primary computer, but didn't feel comfortable firing it up again until a fix was available. No Chorrol for me, though I did drop by long enough to check for new responses in the threads I'm most interested in.

Spent some time repeatedly updating the Avast Forum thread devoted to the glitch. Finally tired of that. At some point I returned to bed and read a while. Not sure when I returned to my secondary computer, guessing between 0830 and 0845. Woot! A fix is available. The thread says to go to C:\Program Files\AVAST software\Avast\ , run AvastEmUpdate, and reboot. I can not find AvastEmUpdate. I search the forum thread for further instruction, finding none. It comes to me that I almost never install programs under Program Files. While Avast directories exist there the program-proper likely resides elsewhere. I search for it. Yup...it's installed in C:\Avast\... So is AvastEmUpdate. I execute it and reboot. Voila...no "X"!!! I soon visit Chorrol and begin this missive.

End of the world? Frankly, I think it's all the cow farts. They fill the upper atmosphere with CO2, block the sun and we’re all gonna freeze. Or perhaps the smell irritates the sun, causing it to slightly adjust the distance it allows us to orbit. Either way, buy desert property and invest in furs. Oh. . . wait. wacko.gif

Mirocu – Happy cavatating! biggrin.gif

Decrepit – Whew! I don’t know whether to laugh, cry or just shake my head over your morning. Regardless, I’m very glad the happy result is that you’re here with us. Avast, maties! smile.gif

You have a LOT more patience than I ever have in those type situations! I would have already done a system restore before they found a fix for the problem, laugh.gif I guess I need to learn patience, lol.

I watched "Sharknado" for the first time tonight. (and probably last time)

It was not as funny as I anticipated it would be; although one scene of a guy on a dumpster having his foot chewed on by a shark and he kept just kind of pulling away but not screaming or even saying "OW!" - that was worth my time, (especially since they kept flashing the camera back to him and he was still doing it) laugh.gif

Ah, sunday...

I might fire up Oblivion later, take my Argonian Rogue for a walk, see what he's up to.

But then again, I might not. Might just get some more reading done.

*shrugs*

Who knows?

That's one of the reasons I've no real interest in that type of game. Too easy to spend more time laying than I intended to playing. I've had that problem a couple of times with a 3DS game I've got with an online mode laugh.gif

This is my first time playing any online game. Even on my XBox 360 I just had the silver membership (bought my son the gold membership, and I just PM'd my friends on "Live" rather than talk in game with them)

If I were to start playing an MMO, it'd have to be on PC. I never liked the idea of having to pay Microsoft just to play the online component of a game I'd bought. Always thought it was something of a rip-off.
