Again, you totally had me fooled. I'm thinking this story was told in the present, but Rattler is actually past news. Ha. Maybe uncle Bronson really IS Rattler. blink.gif

Wouldn't that be cool !!!!!!

This is the final part of Rattler's story. I'd like to thank everyone that was reading it. I know it was gruesome and disgusting at times, actually most of the time, but still, I felt like I wanted to share it. Besides, I think I'm done with evil characters for some time. tongue.gif Now without further ado...

The Fall of Paradise Falls – Part 3

“That fateful night around midnight he returned 'home'. I saw some of the battle from the slave pens but most of all we heard it. Slavers were shrieking and shooting as Rattler was cutting a bloody swath through Paradise Falls. I think some of them were so shocked when they saw him again that they didn’t fire a single bullet before his axe finished them off. Some of us hid inside our barracks but I climbed on top of the chain fence and though I was scared as hell what’s going to happen when Rattler gets to the pens, kids, it was a view to kill for. Carolina Red, Ymir, Jotun, Forty and many other slavers that were making our everyday a living hell, were getting slaughtered. Slaughtered by ghoulified Rattler.

Not much remained of him except for his distinctive armor and imposing posture. I don’t know whether it was his new state that made him so powerful but he was just…just unstoppable. It was like bullets didn’t do him any harm. He staggered on occasion but then moved on even more forcefully. He was screaming “I love it! I f*****g love it!” as he was chopping up his former mates. He was always mad but now he was madder than mad.

Once he was done with those outside, he proceeded first to Cutter’s clinic, then to barracks and then to Pronto’s shop. From every building his axe returned bloodier than before. I thought we were next so I began climbing down the fence but he didn’t even look in our direction, instead headed straight for the cinema where Eulogy Jones was hiding with his two lady bodyguards. Screams and shots were heard from inside the cinema, with the occasional “I f*****g love it” battle cry until Rattler and Eulogy eventually came outside. Eulogy was completely stripped of his clothes and Rattler was walking right behind him, the axe above his head, ready to cut Eulogy in two if he tried to escape. It was obvious he had something special prepared for the big boss.

He threw Eulogy on the ground right outside the cinema, and gave him a little speech. At first I didn’t hear every word but I heard Rattler saying that it takes more than a few bullets and a bunch of stupid slavers to bring him down and that leaving him to rot in the muck fields wasn’t very friendly. Then he mocked Eulogy because he apparently pissed himself from fear, and kids, believe me, as I was seeing Eulogy scared and suffering, I felt good. Not that I was on Rattler’s side, far from it, but I think that hatred towards my captors was what kept me alive in Paradise Falls. I was convinced, though, that once he deals with Eulogy, Rattler’ll turn on us. I was wrong, though.

He told Eulogy that he brought something special from Old Olney and from god-knows-where he pulled out Fat Man, the most destructive weapon of the wasteland. Said he took a walk to Olney after he became a ghoul because he wanted to treat Eulogy differently as he treated other slavers. Again, I didn't hear everything but I recall some of his words:

“Get ready, daddy, ‘ cos we’re goin’ on this journey together. It'll be one hell of a ride. I don’t intend to live as a f*****g ghoul but I’m not goin’ to be alone in hell! I’ll take you with me, daddy, so I’ll forever torment your hairy ass.”

Then Rattler fired the Fat Man and sent them both to hell.

Paradise Falls got brighter than bright and sudden force unleashed all over the compound, throwing me from the fence. I think that all windows that were still in one piece, shattered, all doors were knocked off their hinges and the big chain fence that was separating us from our freedom for all these years was finally broken. By the time I got up, other slaves came out of the barracks and seeing the chain fence down, made us all run to our freedom. I shouted to some of them that slavers are dead and just like a horde of brahmin, we ran out of our pens.

Running past the cinema, I couldn’t help but stop for a second. Radiation was still strong where Rattler fired the last shot of his life, but his and Eulogy’s corpse were lying almost next to one another. The master and the apprentice, though I think that the apprentice bested his master by far. I wondered what would happen if Eulogy didn’t betray Rattler in the first place. I think we’d still be slaves because Rattler would eventually overthrow Eulogy and then we’d be in even bigger troubles. Shouts of other freed slaves brought me back to reality and I joined them just when Bleak found Forty’s master key and went to unlock our slave collars. Within minutes we were out, running to our freedom. And so, my young audience, that’s how the Fall of Paradise Falls occurred.”

“But my daddy says it’s still not wise go to Paradise Falls at night,” said Patricia.

“Patricia, it’s not safe to go to any place in the Capital Wasteland at night unless it’s a city like our Megaton or Rivet City,” smiled Bronson. “But there aren’t any ghosts there. Or ghouls for that matter. It’s been thirty years since those events and Paradise Falls is now another carcass in the Capital Wasteland. It’s been abandoned ever since Rattler rose from his grave and those few slavers that were lucky enough to be on hunt during his rampage, scattered afterwards. It’s true though, that not even raiders took the place over and even wild creatures avoid Paradise Falls. Maybe they’re afraid that treading on the ground would bring Rattler back to life or maybe his presence is so ominous even when he's dead, that anyone sane enough just simply avoids the place.”

“And Rattler never walked again?” asked Timmy, almost sad because the bad guy was finally dead.

“Nope, never. Nobody, not even Rattler, could survive a blast from the Fat Man from so close. He is dead and that’s how it should be. He shouldn’t be even born in the first place. But at least he did something good for the wasteland. Quite ironic, isn’t it? The same man who enslaved most slaves, in the end permanently put the slavery in the Capital Wasteland out of business.”

The end

Very clever and well-done, Lopov! Ironic indeed that the baddest plague to ever walk the wastelands also delivered justice to the slaves. Rattler certainly knew how to go out with a bang!

Seems like Rattler got rid of both the head slaver and himself in one fell swoop. Or two birds with one Fat Man, whichever you prefer.

Always nice when problems take care of themselves, innit? laugh.gif

I already have a new t00n in the Mojave Wasteland, and he's a nice guy. Renee also says he's handsome. I'll introduce him in the appropriate thread later today. Looks like my Fallout season isn't over yet.

Luke Skyrimwalker's game was unfortunately "finished" when my disk crashed in 2015, because his saves couldn't be restored.

While Ally Gator is back in Point Lookout and she'll stay there for a while. wink.gif

Well I have one thing to say sir: thank goodness somebody invented the Fat Man. I could just kiss this person. wub.gif

It's weird to not compliment a story, because it has somebody like Rattler as the main protagonist. Rattler should have considered his own actions, right?

I learned one new thing in Mit's game - if your Speech is high enough, you can provoke the captured Legion Centurion in Camp McCarran and he'll reveal what he knows. Until now I thought that the only way to make him talk is to beat him senseless.

I experienced one new thing in Mit's game - for the first time I enlisted help from the 1st Recon snipers in bringing down Driver Nephi. My characters mostly went alone after Nephi because he's not so tough but I was curious what happens if you ask snipers for help. For those interested, they position themselves at various spots around the Samson Rock Crushing Plant and you're asked to lure Driver Nephi straight to them where all of them open fire on him and any Fiends that follow.

99% of my characters do the main quest as intended by the developers, that is to travel south from Goodsprings and walk over half of the Mojave to get to New Vegas. Areas north and northeast of Goodsprings are populated by high-leveled enemies like deathclaws, cazadores and giant radscorpions, making it difficult to pass. Well, Mit comes into that 1% of characters that traveled straight through this dangerous area instead of heading south. Thanks to powerful ammo bought at Chet (hollow point bullets for cazadores), mods (SCC and Traveling NPCs) and luck he managed to get through by shooting his way through cazadores and raider-occupied Bonnie Springs. Actually raiders of Bonnie Springs were almost more difficult than cazadores because their two leaders are notoriously difficult to bring down at low levels and Mit and Ringo (he hired Ringo thanks to SCC) weren't at full health when raiders already spotted them. Well, fortunately some traveling mercenaries came by and they helped bringing the raiders down.

If Luke Skyrimwalker's saves are kaput, then that is the perfect opportunity to start the character all over again from scratch! I have played my characters all over again from the start in more than one game.

Hecate speeched her way through making that Legion prisoner talk too. She never laid a finger on him. It was very satisfying. I like characters with high Speech skills. It opens up all sorts of opportunities in Beth games.

Oh yes, Renee Gade III. I've had to go back to earlier saves at least twice (and I mean really go back to some early save!) Mr. Lopov might not want to do this but it was worth it for me. I enjoyed doing the same things over again, and even looked at past updates I'd written, to make sure she was in the same places at the same times. smile.gif

Mit Tsubishi really is a badass huh? He's like a badass San Fran hipster guy. He'd be wearing vintage highwater pants + a flowered-print blouse if he wasn't so busy being a Mojave badass.

Maybe I'll recreate Luke indeed, maybe I'll even name him Luke Skyrimwalker and give him some flashy sword. laugh.gif

It's really admiring how many Speech checks they put in Fallout New Vegas that allow you to either avoid combat at all either squeeze more information from the NPCs. There are also lots of Barter checks, I never paid attention to them until now when Barter is one of Mit's tagged skills. You can often bargain for a higher payment at the end of some quests.

Indeed. wink.gif I have yet to decide where he'll also do the Bounties quest mod. I'd like to do it again but Mit may not be cold-blooded enough to be a bounty hunter. We'll see.

I was waiting until the final Rattler tales finished up before dropping this next Cho Zenwahn bombshell into the mess. laugh.gif

*Pipboy App ON, Date: Saturday, 01.02.78, 5:12 AM

I'm inside Vault 101 now. Ha, I found my old teacher Mr. Brotch locked up in a cell. Rescued him, I did. And I hacked into a computer, I know the Overseer was planning on attacking the rebels. Father against daughter, from the sound of it. She can't deny this, I have written proof, on that computer.

Pipboy App Sleep Mode ON

9:51 AM: Okay I see some green dots on my Pipboy. Hope it's them.

unidentified male voice: Hey, what's the word?

Oh hot damn. That voice is Butch the Tunnel Snake, Pipboy App.

unidentified male voice identified as Butch the Tunnel Snake: What? Who the hell is this [censored]?

Hey, don't talk to Star Paladin Cross like that. She'll tear you apart, buddy. She'll eat your nuts for breakfast. What the hell are you up to down here? Seems like you haven't changed at all, bud.

Butch the Tunnel Snake: The damn G.O.A.T. says I'm supposed to be a hair dresser, but that aint me. I'm a *unidentifed word*, you got that? There's a difference!

So what, you cut hair? Ha! That's laughable. ... Hey, hmm... let me see your profile.

Butch the Tunnel Snake: Sure fine, whatever.

Hey, these aren't bad actually. I am getting a little shaggy. Always wearing a helmet too, that's how the Wasteland is. Why do I need so much hair? How about you give me your "Buzz Cut"?

Butch the Tunnel Snake: I'm gonna *unidentifed word* the hell out of your hair, Cho Zenwahn.

Before: IPB Image

After: IPB Image

Pipboy App Sleep Mode ON

6:32 AM: I'm back. My god, that guy .. tolerating him for a [censored] hour takes more patience than taking down a nest of super mutants. But I look good. Gotta admit. But yeah, that idiot thinks he's going to start a [censored] gang out there in the Wasteland. More than likely he'll just wind up in part of some raider faction. Whatever though. Enough of that [censored]. Butch said Amata is somewhere in this part of the 101 complex. Time to speak to her, finally. Break.

The next voice you hear will be Amata, Pipboy App.

unidentified sounds... Pipboy App cannot decipher ... 10 seconds ... 20 seconds....

IPB Image

Amata: I just heard, the Overseer, my father is dead! ... What's more is that some people are saying I should be the new Overseer!

Amata, so good to see you. And look, now that your father's dead, you can be whomever you'd like. You can be the Overseer, you can be some dusty chick who runs around killing raiders with me, whatever you'd like. Just please promise me you won't go to Super Duper Mart to become one of Joe King's whores.

Amata: I'm sure you did everything you could to find a way. I know how stubborn he is, how stubborn he was. But you're right. I don't have time to *unidentified word* just because I lost my father. The vault needs a leader now. That makes the rest of this even harder.

Damn, I was hoping you'd follow us outside. You have no idea, Amata, what it's like. There's this thing called "the sun" for instance, which floats slowly across the sky. It's like this giant, nuclear reactor in the sky, permanently in "fusion" mode, ha ha!

Amata: You saved us. But that doesn't change the fact that you killed one of us to do it. ... and I can't let that sort of thing stand here. I guess it's all familiar. You've already been forced out of the vault once before, at least now you know what's out there. I'm sorry. You're a hero, and you have to leave.

WHAT? What the [censored] Amata? So that's it? You're just going to walk away? Well thanks for nothing. You know I could have ignored your desperate radio transmission.

Amata: I'm sorry but you have to leave. Goodbye.

Star Paladin Cross: You're on point, I shall back you up.

No, that won't be necessary, Cross. This is bull [censored]. I came all the way down here. We could be halfway across the Wasteland toward 87 if it wasn't for this nonsense. Well hey, maybe it's not all a loss. We'll still have Butch the Tunnel Snake out there. Butch the "hair dresser who'll become molerat food in less than an hour" is more like it.

I'm too lazy to check the wiki but isn't Butch supposed to be one of the possible followers? I thought you could recruit him when you return to the vault.

No more shaggy suave for Cho, now he has a clean cut.
