QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 27 2016, 01:44 PM) I recently sent in my blackpowder revolver for a cleanup. Good thing too, it was very dirty and needed a cylinder spring replacement. Didn´t cost too much all in all but I seriously will have to choose when next to shoot with it since I don´t wanna send it in and have it professionally cleaned constantly. And I do wanna take care of it; it is about 150 years old after all and deserves a great deal of respect and service!
I always wondered how black powder revolvers work, I know they come during the time of cartridge loaded smokeless rounds became introduced.

Well, basically you become a handloader. You fiil the chambers with black powder, then with some sort of wad to fill the gap between the powder and the ball, then the ball itself and then some grease to lube the bore.
They were still very common even after cartridge guns were introduced and this is one part because of price but also because of the patent that Colt held that prohibited others to make guns the same way. When that expired, others could start making cartridge guns too. There were ways around it which is why you can convert your cap and ball into a cartridge gun. Still have to use black powder though, obviosuly.
Don't quote me on this though. What I know I've learned from Hickok45, I haven't studied the subject first hand.

QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Nov 30 2016, 08:32 PM) Weren't black powder revolvers really dangerous?
Yeah, if you stand on the receiving end When black powder guns blow up it's usually because the shooter used modern smokeless powder, either by accident or by ignorance thinking it would work. Overloading is another issue as well as leaving space between the powder and the projectile, effectively making a pipe bomb out of the gun. I admit, messing with gun powder is something I'm not used to and I do take whatever precautions I can when dealing with it. But it's fairly safe. For instance, if I load the cylinder without putting the caps on it's almost as safe as not being loaded at all. I can even [censored] the hammer and hit any nipple and it won't go off, it needs the caps for that. This post has been edited by mirocu: Nov 30 2016, 08:41 PM

QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 30 2016, 01:56 PM) I also talked about cocking the hammer but I get censored when I do that Lol, Khajiit was thinking what the hell in relation to a gun hammer could be censored? Then he was like "Oh!", lol
