Haven't done a great deal of music listening lately, other than some Beethoven piano works that's I've linked in the past. This morning I slightly shifted geared and returned to my favorite rendering of Paganini's virtuosic Nel cor più non mi sento for violin solo, Leonid Kogan violin. Boy o boy does he play the heck out of it, both technically and musically. That over with (I listened to it twice) I moved on to another virtuosic favorite in somewhat the same mold, Wieniawski's Scherzo Tarantelle Op.16, written for violin with piano but heard/seen here played by cello and piano, Valentin Radutiu cello. Can't say this is my all-out favorite performance . . . there are a few violin renderings I like at least as well . . . but it's up there.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Feb 21 2017, 01:32 PM) You.... you listened to it?? Wow, didn't expect that tbh Maybe you can understand why I finally got the album, AND TODAY IT ARRIVED!! Haven't plowed through it yet. Pamphlet was cool, it had all the lyrics in Japanese and even cooler; the company (I think) I bought it from had included a separate piece of paper with the lyrics in Kawai; a sort of phonetic style of writing in our alphabet --> One major disappointment though. Absolutely no pictures of the members anywhere. They are presented by their artist names in the back of the pamphlet but a group pic would have been nice instead of those crappy ghost pictures behind the lyrics. But yeah, I finally have their first album! Gonna blast that [censored] in the car to and fro work if I get it How odd that they wouldn't include any pictures! QUOTE(mirocu @ Feb 21 2017, 01:42 PM) That's just one reason I want a physical CD; I want a booklet to browse through. Just one minor detail that makes me enjoy the music more and as you said; digital downloads just isn't the same. Yeah I get the music but I want something I can play in my car and on my 3.1 computer at the cottage while looking at the art on the cover and in the booklet. And I don't have to buy a smartphone or an mp3 player just to transport the music in order to play on something other than the computer I downloaded it to. Just feels more like I own my copy Same here, SO much more prefer the disk than the digital versions. (and for the same reasons) This post has been edited by mALX: Feb 25 2017, 08:30 AM

Especially considering it's their debut album! That is so strange! They need a lesson in marketing, lol.

The convo back at the Errthang Thread got me into a certain mood for some reason. Now listening to the OSTs of Assassins Creed 2 (Brotherhood and Revelations included), AC4: Blackflag and Witcher 3 (DLCs included)!

QUOTE(Decrepit @ Mar 21 2017, 09:12 PM) Franz Lizst's Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 in a performance by Valentina Lisitsa I like quite a lot. Man, she's good! Sad to know your hearing is starting to fail you, Decrepit. You shouldn't have to miss out on the things you like to listen to

You probably heard it in the first Highlander movie.

I keep meaning to link this performance but for whatever reason never get around to doing so. Weber's Andante & Rondo Ungarese (Hungarian Rondo) is most often heard on bassoon, occasionally viola. Here it is played on ophicleide!, a now all but totally abandoned keyed (as opposed to valved) low brass instrument replaced long ago by the tuba. (Despite that, it sounds more akin to the modern euphonium through much of its range.) The ophicleide has a reputation of being hard to play well, with suspect tone quality and often questionable intonation. You'd never suspect it listening to this recording! Nice still images showing what the instrument looks like accompany the music. An added benefit for me is that, being a bass-tenor range instrument, I'm better able to hear more of what the ophicleide actually sounds like than with soprano range instruments playing in their upper registers.
