QUOTE(mirocu @ Jun 4 2017, 09:41 AM) Finally have my 12 gauge pump-action shotgun at the cottage and so I could at long last try some slugs. Never fired any before and man, they kick! Almost .30-06 level! Actually, wouldn't be surprised if they kick a little bit more It was fun, though. Put some big holes in the old oil drum and absolutely obliterated the bricks That's a big piece of metal flying around, fo sho!

Put some big holes in the old oil drum and absolutely obliterated the bricks Glad to hear it. I've fired my "new" .357 magnum and boy is having a bulkier gun make all the difference in recoil. I'll never buy another snub-nose .357 again; that kicked to hard to be an effective defensive weapon. Yeah, that's something novice shooters often overlook. They want a light gun as a defensive weapon but don't consider the fact that lighter guns produce heavier recoil. I think the reason I experienced my pump-action having a recoil slightly below the .30-06 is because it has a 28" barrel. Someone just said a 1oz slug actually is worse than a .30-06.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Aug 5 2017, 08:58 AM) Think I would prefer not having the foregrip though.
I like using the foregrip for recoil reduction and control for better shots, but that's just me . This post has been edited by Dark Reaper: Aug 5 2017, 03:06 PM

I thought about a foregrip too, but decided against it. What I have read is that it can be detrimental to your shooting form, because it is moving your hand farther away from the barrel. They came into use on modern AR-15s because people often have equipment mounted on their barrel, which prevent you putting your hand on the barrel. Or they have a light built into the foregrip. Or they have a backup sight mounted at a 45 degree angle. The foregrip helps with twisting the gun to use the second sight. There seem to be a lot of people for and against it. A lot of it seems to boil down to what you personally find the most comfortable. So if the grip feels right for you, it is the thing to do. This post has been edited by SubRosa: Aug 5 2017, 06:17 PM
