Finally have my 12 gauge pump-action shotgun at the cottage and so I could at long last try some slugs. Never fired any before and man, they kick! Almost .30-06 level! Actually, wouldn't be surprised if they kick a little bit more tongue.gif

It was fun, though. Put some big holes in the old oil drum and absolutely obliterated the bricks smile.gif

Glad to hear it. I've fired my "new" .357 magnum and boy is having a bulkier gun make all the difference in recoil. I'll never buy another snub-nose .357 again; that kicked to hard to be an effective defensive weapon.

Yeah, that's something novice shooters often overlook. They want a light gun as a defensive weapon but don't consider the fact that lighter guns produce heavier recoil. I think the reason I experienced my pump-action having a recoil slightly below the .30-06 is because it has a 28" barrel. Someone just said a 1oz slug actually is worse than a .30-06.

Reminds me of people like Hickok saying how the S&W 500 was this powerful beast of a gun with unmanageable recoil, then I go buy one to find out my Rugar Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum had worse recoil then the 500 did, well as long as I used the inexpensive rounds. Now the more expensive Hornady rounds let you know you where shooting a 500 but those WHERE hunting rounds meant for wild boars and other tougher large game. I might try to buy a 500 again once my car is paid off, either that or buy another .44 Magnum both are pretty much on equal terms as far as I'm concern.

My M4 gives me a bruise on the shoulder after about a hundred shots or so.

Didn't get to shoot any clays at camp this year. There wasn't a lot of us there, so we just fished and did other things around the camp.

I was talking to my Dad one day thinking if I was to buy another powerful magnum to either re-buy the 500 or just get another .44 Mag and when you really think about the .44 Magnum is probably the better of the two cause like I've said, the 500 was only noticeable when I used the hunting rounds and the plain ones felt close to what a .44 would feel. So in conclusion IF I did decide to buy another powerful magnum I'll probably just buy the .44.

Here's my rifle with the new foregrip. Can't wait to take it back to the range.

I love it-it's deadly accurate: Sorry for the blurryness my cell phone doesn't take good pictures or have shake control.

Think I would prefer not having the foregrip though.

I like using the foregrip for recoil reduction and control for better shots, but that's just me happy.gif.

Maybe it is better, can't really say as I haven't tried it. I just think I prefer without it as that is what I'm so used to.

-------------------------------------

Just printed out instructions for inspection of gun safes here. The police can inspect weapon storage but they CANNOT inspect any guns or other storage one might have. That is viewed as illegal house search and is punishable by law.

I printed out one copy for me and one for my dad. We've never had an inspection before but knowing what to do is not a bad idea.

I thought about a foregrip too, but decided against it. What I have read is that it can be detrimental to your shooting form, because it is moving your hand farther away from the barrel. They came into use on modern AR-15s because people often have equipment mounted on their barrel, which prevent you putting your hand on the barrel. Or they have a light built into the foregrip. Or they have a backup sight mounted at a 45 degree angle. The foregrip helps with twisting the gun to use the second sight.

There seem to be a lot of people for and against it. A lot of it seems to boil down to what you personally find the most comfortable. So if the grip feels right for you, it is the thing to do.
