Of music heard recently, the below deserve special mention: Two Etudes by Chopin, performed by Valentina Lisitsa .... Op.10 No.12 "Revolutionary".... Op.10 No.4Saint-Saens Symphony No.1, a work I think deserves more exposure than it gets. I own this particular performance on CD as part of a complete Saint-Saens symphonies set.

I've been on a "Chopin Revolutionary Etude" kick lately, as my previous contribution attests. Listened to quite a few interpretations of it at YouTube. Near the end of yesterday's Revolutionary marathon, almost as an afterthought, I clicked on the link of what looked to be a teen girl or at most one in her very early twenties, not expecting much. I was right about age (teenager) but not about quality. This is a VERY respectable performance, as good as some of the "big boys" in the field. Most impressive, regardless of age. My curiosity roused, I decided to investigate the pianist, a certain Umi Garrett. Turns out she's a child prodigy, with documented performances at YouTube as early as her eighth year (if not earlier). I noticed one with her playing the piano part of Beethoven's Piano Trio Op.1 No.1 at age 8!!!!! Watching it, I was floored by her technique, musicality and stage presence. (She outshines her two older (but still young) partners. Looks like she's having a blast too. (When they stand at the end it brings home just how tiny and young she was when this event occurred in 2009.) This post has been edited by Decrepit: Oct 29 2017, 05:52 PM

QUOTE(Decrepit @ Oct 31 2017, 02:57 AM) Not much to report other than finding yet another mind blowing Umi Garrett performance, this time playing a Liszt work, totally unknown to me, as an encore during an orchestra concert in which is was featured as soloist...at age 10!!!!! Bloody 'ell!!! And let me add: FLIPPIN' KRIKEY!! Did she start playing in the womb or something??

It's the second of Liszt's "Two Concert Studies," titled, in translation, "Dance of the Gnomes," eerily appropriate this being Halloween night. QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 1 2017, 04:06 PM) I accidentally read the comment section on youtube and saw that JinE has left OhMyGirl. Sigh... But she has a legitimate reason due to her health issues (anorexia) and also her wish to pursue other dreams. I just don't like it when members leave my favourite groups Wait, is anorexia now considered a "health issue?" Geez, let's hear it for another self-inflicted "poor victim." Bleah. Been listening to Skyrim's soundtrack again lately. Whatever anyone's feelings about the game are, Skyrim's soundtrack is undeniably a [censored] masterpiece. Jeremy Soule, you absolute genius. My favorite piece of the soundtrack is hands down Kyne's Peace, as I have noted before. And it's one of my favorite pieces of music ever made. Here are some more of my favorites: TundraAuroraMasserSecundaDawnFrostfall

A change of pace from the solo piano and chamber works I've listened to these past some days. This morning I got a hankering to hear me some Dick Wagner. Turned to one of his relatively early operas, "Lohengrin," a long time favorite. First up, "Heil Konig Heinrich" (sometimes subtitled Gathering of Armies) from Act III. Very stirring, heroic music with lots of brass fanfares, a march tune and so on. Next, the Introduction to Act III, segueing, as it should, into the famous/infamous Bridal March and Chorus which to this day can be heard during the ruination of a great many lives. Lastly, Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral from Act II, a lovely slow, winds dominated tune that begins at a whisper and slowly crescendos through its nearly 6-1/2 mins (in this recording) until ending in a powerful climax.

Lol, Dick Wagner hunh? Khajiit was a little slow when he read that. He first thought "Dick Wagner? Who's that?", and then "Oh yeah! The Ride of the Valkries guy!", lol. Thanks for the chuckle! That is the first time Khajiit has seen his name written like that!
